  1. I'm confused by one aspect here... I've seen a reference to there being very few shard blades and sets of shard plate... I don't remember the actual number, but I want to say it was fewer than 100... and then there's Dalinar's vision of the recreance which seems to suggest a number of shards that far exceeds the minimal number that seem to be available at this point. Which is right? or were there a large number that have been "lost"?
  2. The theory seems plausible... we'll have to see how close to the mark you are...
  3. In this same concept... I tend to wonder how close the link is between an original radiant's shard plate and shard blade were... (if they have any roll they play together... especially if being revived)... Imagine if you had to find not only the blade, but the "matching" plate...
  4. Somewhere in SA2, there's a quote about a 200 foot drop being more than what shard plate can help you survive... and I believe where they were, the clefts would have been in that 200 foot range... past that, I'm uncertain about airbending and how that might help... in the dark while falling and disoriented... unsure. It's possible that Eshoni survived though... *shrug*
  5. I currently can't see how Eshoni could have survived... water from the storm + weight of armor == probable drowning... no water == splat... dunno... Scooby Doo ending?
  6. I suspect his next oath will have to do with Leadership as well... When the man who calls himself Taln showed up at Kohlinar, didn't he say something about the patron for Windrunners Jezrien would teach them leadership? (seems like a fairly major aspect of the windrunners... ) We've learned Kal can fight like the wind it's self... but life isn't all about fighting and protecting... and he's exhibited some significant leadership capabilities from time to time...
  7. I agree... though I think forcing to Kaladin face his "demons" is part of the story arc... something that BS is intending to drag us through in the character progression... In some way's I wonder if he could have fully achieved the understanding/meaning of the 3rd oath without actually passing through the trials involved in the latter part of this book...
  8. Some of his attitude/behavior helps build an understanding of when/why he trips and fall's... that he's not a simple yes man... that he has to actively learn to change his behavior if he wants to continue his journey... Seems rather hard headed at times - and has nearly fallen hard twice now in the progression... (Understand I strongly like his character... one of my favorites...)
  9. I for one can't wait to read Oathbringer... I don't always enjoy the flashbacks, but they do help flesh out the story... I'm hoping there will be more from Jasnah this time around... We've read about the Black Thorn being a bad boy who didn't take anything from anyone... who will make you see his point of view with force if necessary... I don't think this will be a joy ride... I don't know that I'd call him evil... but I suspect we'll see he was somewhat brutal at times...
  10. No, this is revealed when Dalinar challenges Amaram and in turn apologizes to Kaladin...
  11. The blade that Dalinar bonded that was dropped by the man known as Taln couldn't have been a Honor blade... Because after Dalinar's 1st and 2nd oaths were accepted, the blade he'd bonded (which was the weapon that had supposedly been dropped by "the man who claims to be Taln") started screaming to him... When Kaladin grabbed the Honor blade dropped by Szeth, it didn't scream in his head... Extrapolating Syl's comments about Honor blades not being dead spren... So Honor blades shouldn't scream when being held by a Radiant... Therefore the blade Dalinar bonded that he'd gotten from "Taln" couldn't be a honor blade because of the screams - it must be a "standard" shard blade because it started screaming when when being held/awakened by a radiant and therefore wasn't an honor blade... *shrug* On a side topic - I wonder if a "dead spren" might be brought back if bonded to a "non-radiant" who were to re-swear the oaths of the order they should be members of...
  12. It's difficult to be sworn to protect others, and then fight everyone who possibly threaten's you... Kaladin's been wary of giving too much information to people he doesn't trust for 2 full books now and in some cases when someone has demonstrated fairly great trust in him. He's not going to go beat up the guard that's struggling to pull his mace out... He's going to be quiet and standoffish... I fully expect that Roshone will be in the building and will recognize him... Also, remember that Kaladin's sworn he won't be put in prison again... it will be interesting to see how things go if Roshone tries to thrown perceived power around... I suspect summoning Sil as a blade may significantly alter perceptions... Kaladin isn't generally boastful; arrogant - yes, boastful - no. I like Kaladin but that's just me. I kind of like it when a character has flaw's and doesn't become suddenly perfect over a short period of time. Kaladin's had some perceived growth/knowledge increases that didn't seem warranted in the past and I can't say I LIKE all of his behaviors. But I do appreciate the character and in my opionion, development doesn't always mean improvement. Sometimes realism can be achieved when there's more of "a cycle" where they improve, stumble, fall, and then improve again with ties to the events in the previous cycle. Also - good point about Kohlinar - he should have swung by Kohlinar on the way to Hearthstone since it's pretty much directly on the way from the shattered plains... Wiki map - http://goo.gl/vyGyG7
  13. Good point about Shallan... I was thinking Adolin because I half expect him to become a radiant at some point in the future... since whatever makes someone attractive to a spren seems to run strong in his family... His father has it, his Brother has it, his cousin has it...
  14. Adolin - likely killed by Nale for killing Sadeus? I expect that Kaladin will have to do something that involves protecting Roshone... I also highly doubt his parents are at Hearthstone... I also expect that Szeth - because of his new found itch to make things right... Justice... with a drive to address the abomination at Kharbranth...
