I am happy to be on the list.

Do I suck with wordcounts, or is this longer than some of Brandons books?
-
Hah, no problem.

I am fine with it too (I actually said so in my latest post :-)

Yeah, I feel like doing this without the approval of people might end up being seen as offensive. I am sure a lot of people (most likely the ones involved in this thread, for starters) will be okay if asked, but I suggest asking for approval from everyone first. I consent to being part of an eventual list, so we have one person at least. And I suspect that @Ashspren @AonEne and @Rebecca would be okay with it, since they liked the idea. Others, we should ask.

Yay, another death thread! Here are my bets: -Mr T is too old to survive the entire series. Even if someone doesn’t kill him off, he will die of old age sooner or later. The same goes for Adrotagia. -While we are on the Diagram, there is no way Malata makes it through the entire series alive. Minor antagonists who are warriors generally die. -Kaladin will most likely die. I feel like one of the three mains will, and Dalinar feels like the likely one, so he probably won’t. I think Kaladin is the dead guy. -Shallan might die too. I’m 50/50 on her. -Rayse, Nale and Moash will all die at some point. I think Szeth will kill Nale with Nightblood. If the Ghostbloods wind up being antagonists, I think Mraize is bound to kick the bucket sooner or later as well. -A whole bunch of Heralds. -Adolin. -Aladar and/or Hatham. One or too Highprinces will die sooner or later, and these are the major ones left, along with Sebarial, who I think might survive, ironically. -More Bridge 4 people. I think Lopen, Skar and a bunch of others. -Queen Fen. She is old too. -Leshwi will probably die and come back a few more times. -I really don’t see Szeth surviving. I think I’ll stop this list here...

Haha! I was going to suggest fan-favorite characters, but this is better. The only thing is that there might be one or two Sharders who doesn’t want to be on the list, which might anger the mods.

AshVal Well... Ash is a maniac, and Val is an assassin... I think Steris. Who would win in a fight?

I could see the the idea of the Stormfather becoming a Blade happening in some extreme circumstance, which ends with both him and Dalinar kicking the bucket.- 40 replies

[OB] Kaladin's Character Progression
Toaster Retribution replied to Starla's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think there is a point to the failures, and I will keep saying: Kaladins OB-arc was great. This is the logical next step to his arc. He has saved people, he has gotten over his bias against lighteyes, he has handled his depression, he has become a powerful Radiant, and confronted Tiens death and his parents. Things were, at the end of WoR/beginning of OB, going pretty good for Kaladin. So failure is what is needed to give him new problems to solve, and new conflicts to face, to keep him interesting. And the fun thing about Kal and failure is that there are few things that go as bad together. If there is one problem Kaladin has always had, it is failing. But in this book, we see that he has learned to handle that as well. After all his failures in OB, he is still feeling okay when the book ends. Despite losing a ton of people he cares about and, in Elhokars case, was sworn to protect, despite failing to swear an oath, despite failing to best Amaram, he is feeling good. Kaladin in OB progresses through failure, just as Dalinar does. It is a theme for the book. Notice how the characters who go through failure and come out stronger (Kaladin, Teft, Dalinar) are the heroes of Oathbringer, while the ones who can’t handle it (Moash and Amaram) turn to Odium. Kaladins arc is defenitely letting him grow as a person, by showing that he can handle failing, and is also tied into the theme of the book. That is why it works so well. -
The Eragon movie is awesome to watch with a friend who also likes the books. You can laugh at it together. One of my best movie-watching experiences actually. And to be honest, they made two good casting decisions.

Not to be that guy, but they are extremely unrelated. There are some Elantris easter eggs there, but probably nothing that will fix your problems with Elantris. As to your major question, read WoBs, check out the Coppermind, ask about stuff you don’t get in the Q&A forum or on Discord. And then, don’t worry if you don’t know everything. I am a pretty bad theorycrafter myself, but there are other ways to contribute to the community :-)

Hello! Enjoy the Shard! Who is your favorite character?

I just don’t see it. Bavadin playing with Scadrial doesn’t mean that Kenton has to be there as well. I don’t see the logic, sadly.

Battar - Agent of Cultivation?
Toaster Retribution replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
@Calderis The point I tried to make is that the inversion isn’t really very simple. It isn’t straightforward. Not the direct opposite. Yes, Nale is not confident in himself, but his confidence in Ishar was extreme. And while he is unjust, it is not like he is breaking any laws or makes actual attempts at being unjust (hope that is the right english word). The madness of Battar wouldn’t be the direct opposite of wise and careful. At least, it doesn’t have to be. There is room for wierdness. And I agree in that we will just agree to disagree about wether or not Dova is Battar in the first place. -
Kenton sounds like a name that wouldn’t be too out of place on Scadrial. I guess its just named after some noble in-world. The real explanation is probably that Kenton was the main character of Brandons first book, and that Brandon added it as an easter egg for himself.

I agree with you on the main topic (the Fused are not Voidbinding), but I really don’t see the focus thing. I still think bonds make the most sense. But otherwise, great topic. I am completely with you.

Battar - Agent of Cultivation?
Toaster Retribution replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
The inversion isn’t straight out confirmed though, and it does take wierd shapes. Ash, for example, isn’t really non-creative or dishonest. She just breaks art of herself. Nale is incredibly confident, to the degree that he refuses to accept a new Desolation after seeing Voidbringers. I doubt King T lied to Dalinar. It seems like a pretty random lie to pull, and, from a writing standpoint, I feel like it is something Brandon wouldn’t do. King T is a pretty reliable source lore-wise, and seemingly reveal the hidden idetity of a Herald during the final pages of one book, from a reliable source, and then go ”nah, he lied” in the next book, seems like a wierd decision to make.
