  1. I'd say most probably. He's a good pre-established character who travels around a lot. The primary function of the interludes is to show us more of Roshar. It would make more sense to continue using Axies and Rysn instead of creating yet another new character that we have to keep track of, for at least one of the interludes each. I'm completely fine with the introduction of new characters but when Sanderson has a convenient character to use it seems a shame not to utilize them.

  2. If I were a herald bound by those pesky laws I know for a fact that I would be a Stonewarden. My own morality pretty much binds me to the I'll stand when others fall mentality anyway. I take pride in my dependability. However if I could choose to be a certain type of Surgebinder, I would probably choose Lightweaver. Illusions can be so much fun. I wouldn't enjoy flying as I have an aversion to heights.

Just to clarify because it'll bug me forever: Brotherhood is technically the "original" one. The 2003 anime deviated from the manga and changed a bunch of plot points, characters, and mechanics. The Brotherhood version is truer to the original story in the manga.

I guess I should have said the first anime rather than the original. I realize that the author's intended story was shown in brotherhood. That's actually why I prefer the first anime. Brotherhood is guilty of everything wrong with the shounen anime genre. It focuses entirely on getting the characters to the final god-tier boss so they can defeat them with their own inner power and have a happy ending. The first anime on the other hand focused more on the relationship of the two brothers, the final boss is neither god tier or defeated by the heroes instead being beaten by her own hubris, and the ending is far from happy. It's hopeful. Sorry for the rant and any confusion I may have caused by using original instead of first. This is all my opinion of course. I know there are plenty of people who enjoyed the brotherhood anime I sadly wasn't one of them. I do have to give to props to the actress who portrayed Lust's death throes. That was an amazing scene.

I am very  whovian (if you couldn't tell).

My favorite Doctor would have to be Ten or Eleven,

My favorite companion, (that's a hard one) would probably have to be Amy and Rory or Donna.

My favorite story (also a hard one) would have to be Blink, Midnight, the Silence, the God Complex, the Empty child, or the Snowmen.

(I seriously watch all nine of the new seasons every summer, when I'm not reading, that is.)

I always forget about The God Complex. It's one of my absolute favorites though. Such a clever title for the episode.

  5. I picture The Cognitive Realm as kind of like a blanket laying on top of a bunch of different sized sports balls. The bigger the sports ball the more thought is centered around it. Smaller sports balls are the things that are thought about but not necessarily all of the time. The valleys in between sports balls are open space where there is next to no thought existing. The sports balls are the Physical Realm. When you Worldhop using the Shadesmar You're teleporting through the blanket to the top so you can walk down a valley and up another sports ball and jump into that world. Perpendicularities could be little holes in the blanket. That doesn't explain the equator conundrum but It's how I like to picture the Cognitive Realm.

(Edit)The rises and falls in the blanket could be like hills on a topographic map with closer lines that would explain the lack of distance when walking through areas of little to no cognitive activity.

Possibly Dalinar is flabbergasted by the planet spinning and not by it's roundness. They may still have the idea that Suns orbit planets.

That's a really good explanation. I think some are having trouble differentiating between the earth being round and the Earth spinning.

Personally, I feel that Mistborn of all Sanderson's books is best suited for a movie. I think it would work really well. Maybe I just havent watched enough anime, but it always feels really cheesy to me. So I pretty much feel the complete opposite, that mistborn would be wasted as an anime. But thats just my opinion, pease don't take it offensively, its not meant to be degrading.

I agree. I used to really love anime. Then I grew up. There are a few series I'll still hold very close to my heart. Fullmetal Alchemist (the original not brotherhood.) Toradora!, Gurren Lagann. It's just very hard to watch any new anime as they all seem so over the top and ridiculous, and not fun over the top like Gurren Lagann. With GL it was treated as goofy/crazy. Sometimes anime tries to take itself far too seriously then they throw in stupid fanservice moments and lots of screaming. I say make Mistborn a trilogy of movies. Make Stormlight a live action mini series. Movies for everything else. Some of the short stories such as Emperor's Soul might not make a bad animated feature, if done without all of the traditional anime tropes.

  8. I'm a whovian! My favorite Doctor is Peter Capadi followed closely by David Tennant*. My favorite companion is either Donna or Rory. Because they both are not afraid to tell The Doctor off when he endangers people. My favorite arc is the Cracks in the Skin of the Universe Season 5 arc. My favorite villain is probably the Ice Warriors or The Silence. The scene I can't get through without crying is the end of Vincent and The Doctor.

*10 is the Doctor that I cosplay when I go to my dork conventions. (See profile pic.)

And didn't he say he wanted to do some more on Sel before the modern-era Mistborn series?

And isn't the main character in the modern-era Mistborn series going to be a computer programmer?

While I wouldn't go so far as to consider these connections a full-fledged theory that I'd be willing to predict, I do find them very interesting.

This is a really cool connection to make. It would make sense that we would need the knowledge of Sel before the next Misborn series if they are learning how to view the magic systems as coding. I love having a book series like this that can be predicted with relative accuracy. I'm so used to going into a book completely blind. This minimal predictability makes me more excited for the next books in a series.

  10. Brandon has likened the magic system to coding before. I think that Selish magic is probably the most understood magic system in the Cosmere (at least by those using it). Anyone who has done any sort of coding before knows that the tiniest mistake can throw the whole thing off and make it not function (like the chasm line). I think if anyone can learn how to hack into another system's investiture it would be the coding experts of the universe. Think about the events of the Secret History spoiler below.

    Spoiler

If Kelsier hadn't been present to intervene the Ire would probably have succeeded in stealing another planet's god.

I have a lot of faith that the people of Sel will be very important later on.

I know that's why I quoted his post and asked. The reason I asked is another matter, but  only the simple reason that it's hilarious. And, why did you link the first page of this thread to the Elenion text?

Sorry I saw my name (which was on his post) and thought you were asking me. As for the link it's a simple matter of me having no clue what I'm doing. XD. I was trying to pull off one of those sweet links to a specific poster. So I just highlighted Elenion's  name and copied it into the text box. I have learned it doesn't work that way.

This is my new favorite thread, because SotD is my favorite short story in Arcanum Unbounded (closely followed by The Emperor's Soul). I also wondered why "the Ones Above" wanted either the Aviar or the worms so badly. But @hwiles may have stumbled across the answer! I just started reading Second Era Mistborn with Wax and Wayne (now on SoS), and since there's only Mistings now, maybe they're there to collect Aviar to build a spiked Mistborn army!

I am also a really big fan of SotD. I think it is a spectacularly put together short story.

It could also have been the statue used by Jasnah in her confrontation with Ivory. She may have Elsecalled it to fight on her behalf

I really like this idea. I've always viewed Soulcasting as more like Full Metal Alchemist style alchemy, and Elsecalling to be more like what Elizabeth does in Bioshock Infinite. Literally bringing sometime over from another plane of existence. I know it's a bit of an ask to hope there are others on this site that know both of the comparisons I just made. LOL
