Miles was a gold savant. The enhancement he gained from it was not what he could recover from but how fast. In his POV parts in Alloy he mentions that he is always burning it. The bulk of his power obviously came from compounding but Miles was definitely a savant.

Confirmed: We have WOB on that.

Also, I think it's valid to mention that there's no place in the books that states that ANYONE can be gifted an ability. It could be that there are also regular people who, for whatever reason, cannot even use a transference epic's powers. If that's the case, which I think it is, then there's nothing really wrong with this plot piece.

Soren are fragments of a Shard's power, so I don't think that it's possible. Even Syl says that she's a small piece of a god's power, and you can't invest something that's a byproduct of investiture.

Technically, Hoid wasn't creating anything when he Lightwove. He was re-telling a story, so it makes sense that creationspren didn't manifest. Just like when he was on Nalthis, he told a story out of history. Hoid is a collector of sorts, aside from meddling, his pastime seems to be collecting stories.

I wonder if the colour has to do with the amount of stormlight the gemstone can hold. (Capacity) I also wonder if that has any bearing on the soulcasting use. It would seem to me that the more that the photo-radiants use their abilities, they may develop more of an awareness of the amount of stormlight that they use and that is held in a specific gem.

Actually, Jehovah is a misnomer. We get the word Jehovah from the attempt by hebrew scholars early on trying to designate a written form of the name of God YHWH without writing it, so instead of using vowel indicators they attempted to denoted them using small dots in the transcription. Also it's important to mention that the actual hebrew form of the Name is, when spoken, sounds as though it has no real hard consonant sounds. It sounds like it is meant to be "breathed" more than "spoken". Sorry for the abstractness there, it's definitely an interesting tidbit though.

Can I just add, that we don't know that allomancy won't affect nightblood, who is in fact made of metal. But if Vasher were to bring a shard blade, which we know he's a master of the use of, no contest. Besides, while TLR is a master of his powers, Vasher is a master of survival.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

You Know You're a Sanderfan When. . . you play league of legends and you get serial shroomed by teemo and you /all chat "Storming rat" and no one gets it. . . -
Me too. But you make the assumption that the shards that are present on their corresponding worlds now were there at the time of the human exodus. It seems most likely that at some point Preservation stepped in. Whether having created a way for humans to travel or perhaps preservation made the trip to Roshar itself. Either way, Preservation seems the most likely candidate.

[Theory] Highstorms contain a gateway to the Cognitive realm
Cruxer replied to Rockbud's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think this is true. I'm re-reading WoR and Zahel, who I think is the closest thing we have to an expert on investiture, has this thought about a high storm: "One of those storms had come. Invested to the hilt and looking for a place to stick it all. Cursed things." That much raw power could be causing the compression of realms. Or perhaps causing them to align. -

Granted. But you live the rest of your life alone on an island filled with annoying, magic-proof lemurs. I wish to have the ability to re-write history but adding lightsabers to every major battle ever. -
I theorize that if Nightblood were to take absorb ANY shard, that he would instantly have a grasp of the intent behind the original command to destroy evil. My evidence lies in the example of Ruin/Preservation. Others have pointed out that when a person takes up a shard, there is isn’t a full omniscience that happens, but the new Shard is instantly granted a depth of knowledge of the history of the Shard. Through this, Nightblood would have context for the original command, but it would be inherently flawed, as it would be colored by the perception of the shard’s intent. The reason he didn’t receive this from Endowment on Nalthis is because he was just given a lot of investiture. He was not a receptacle for the power and intent of the aspect of the Almighty. We know that Nightblood already has a level of sentience but he has not the correct hardware for that sentience to expand. It’s like creating an immortal person and locking them inside a box as an infant and leaving them there for eternity. They will never be able to expand their consciousness because they are unable to expand the context of sentient thought. Absorbing a shard would completely change. that. I also think that this theory is a pretty logical leap. That is exactly why I think it won’t happen. I don’t believe that Nightblood was created with this purpose in mind, though, we don’t know enough about the Five Scholars and what they were trying to achieve to determine this. We also don’t know how Nightblood was removed from Vasher’s possession. My own spin on this theory is that someone will try to absorb Odium with Nightblade, and will fail. Odium is definitely super-crafty, and I think he’ll pull an Ati-Style switcheroo. And then mass craziness will ensue as Nightblade absorbs one of the other known Shards on Roshar (Cultivation or Honor). Imagine a Nightblood who has become more self-aware, and possibly able to take on other forms. A Nightblood who perhaps has combined an inflated sense of Honor that has been combined with the insatiable need to destroy evil. This could completely destroy Honor, as there are times when the honorable thing to do is not to destroy the evil-doer, but instead to show mercy and give the opportunity for redemption. I can’t even imagine what he would do to Cultivation. Basically, Nightblood taking a shard’s power could corrupt the original intent beyond recognition. Or, it would destroy Nightblood as he currently is.

I'm more leaning toward this theory. And on a more simple, quite basic note: Perhaps BioChroma doesn't manifest visually on planets other than Nalthis. Perhaps we can't see Hoid's BioChromatic Aura simply because of the lack of Endowment on Roshar. Because Shards seem to be tied to the planets they inhabit, I tend to assume that the planet itself starts to adopt some of the investiture of the Shard inhabiting it. Because all planets have been created by the "Power of Creation" That was split-up into what we now know as Shards, I would assume that there is some form of what I like to call "Procreative Resonance". Meaning that the Created things and Procreated (Post Shattering) life forms would feel the presence of the Shards on their world and would be attuned to it. With this theory in mind, we could safely assume that even with Shards being splintered or even removed from their planet a minor level of investiture would still take place. Or there would be the presence of raw power devoid of purpose or intent such as on Sel. We see this type of power with the Dor. That's my theory at least.

I'm a long-time Brandon Fan. And have been following both his books and the Writing Excuses podcast for years. It's so good to see such a strong following for his work. I'm also pumped so see how much Cosmere theorizing is done here as I'm glad I'm not the only one! Brandon's work has had such a profound impact on myself and my wife that we actually named our Daughter after Vin. I can't wait to see what everyone has to say!
