I think with her, we're going to have to wait until we get more from Shadows of Self. I think once we know some more kandra, it'll be easier to spot her. It would've been nearly impossible to recognize Galladon if we hadn't of had Elantris, kolo? Even if we had met the Duladel people before, it would've been really difficult to recognize him but because we had read Elantris, it was easy. I'm not saying that we shouldn't try and find her, just that it's going to be really hard without something more to go on.

Having a Bad Day? Stop here for a Good Rant!
Zas678 replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, sometimes there are just those days that don't seem to go out right. Those days where you're pushed to the brink, than just a little further. Those days are hard. Take some more hugs! -
I'm working on it- but there's some good stuff. The only trouble is that my phone died, so it's from notes and memory. Gak.

I've got a question. So we're pretty sure that Braize is Damnation, and it's there where the Heralds are tortured in between Desolations. Do we know anything about how they get there? Is it a physical movement, or through the Shadesmar?

Welcome! The point that the fandom realized that there was an interconnected universe was right after the Hero of Ages release. The Q&A that Brandon did on the old forum (Time Waster's guide) included questions from the annotations including about connecting persons. If you want to, here's the original Q&A. It's got a lot of great things about HoA and the first things about the Cosmere (including Hoid). As a warning, it's a little long... but it's awesome. Interestingly enough, that was the exact time I joined. I had read a number of Brandon's books, and went to the release party of Hero of Ages and someone mentioned the forum. I went just as the Q&A started and been around ever since. I hope you enjoy it here, and find like-minded people here.

Little to say, it's high in iron. And sDNA. And.... other things. Welcome! We'll enjoy your awesome theories!

If anyone's looking for me, I *should* be wearing a Szeth shirt (if I can find it), and will probably be close to Brandon with a recorder. I'm excited!

Well, we'll see on that one. Let's see how the consequences come out. That attack was done really quickly, and there's time to do healing and then accusing , or to have him die and a mystery and thus ensuing guilt, or a myriad of things. We'll see how dead he stays.

Who has that pesky tenth Honorblade?
Zas678 replied to Secret Ardent Man's topic in Stormlight Archive
Knowing how determined he is.... Hoid's got it. Not that he'd have much use for it, seeing as he's committed to not killing. But he might just do it to say that he did. No, I doubt that Hoid's got it. I'm not sure who would have it. We'll see.... -
Here's my interpretations- Post- #2- I think this could be a reference to the mountain springs of the Horneaters- aka the Shardpool. It’s a mountain spring very very close to ice, very important realmantically speaking (especially now that we know that they’re important for worldhopping). But how is that shardpool a connection to the love of men? That’s something for more thought 9 I’m with McDee. I would believe that if Odium’s behind the Parshendi, he’d be the one shaping their songs- a Black Piper. And Pashendi songs are songs no man can hear. 11- I’m for one of two things- one is that the 10 orders of the Knight Radiants in an ultimate final battle as you mentioned against Parshendi (thus the black, red, and orange). Or possibly the Heralds, finally reunited against the evil after deciding to PULL THEMSELVES TOGETHER. Man, Roshar’s about to go to pieces and they’re going to let it do it. Side note- why didn’t they stop the Recreance? Why didn’t they stop the betrayl of the Knight Radiants? 13- So even though brother isn’t metaphorical, perhaps the Blood is. Maybe Dalinar. Perhaps he (as he’s already done) regrets the things that have happened as the Blackthrone- the blood on their hands as they’ve recreated the kingdom. And whose fault is it? The politician? Or the General? Who holds the guilt for battle? Is it upon the head of every soldier who dies in battle? On their general for the specific plans he makes? Or the politician that determines the fight? That's the question and the debate he's asking himself. 14- I’m with Ookla of the Corn. I think it’s talking about Kaladin. He’s supposed to pick up the fallen title of Winidrunner. The crown and tower he lifts up by lifting up his spear and fighting in the end of WoK. 30- I’m with Ookla the infinite. That seems a very specific chapter name. I'm for it being about Kaladin choosing to protect the breaker of promises.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Zas678 replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
EVen though you have to be pratically a Senior to get that class (though you probably could just show up.... And the Dragonsteel book has a mile's worth of waitlist. But sometimes it's possible to get it through interlibrary-loan. -
Don't do it! It's a trap! They are made by the Dark Alley (though how they manage to make so many, I'm not quite sure), but they contain an extraordinary amount of iron. And spiritual web. So unless you've got an iron defficiency... But in all seriousness, Welcome! We hope you enjoy yourself here.

Welcome! The Hero of Ages is one of my favorites. It's an excellent end to the trilogy, and it's a great starting point into the Cosmere. The cosmere was actually first discovered by the general public right after the Hero of Ages release- that's when Brandon mentioned a couple of things and the fandom started putting things together. Welcome, and I hope you have a good time here!

Bwaha! Music is Politics-> Developmental Hell -> Wheel of Time -> Brandon Sanderson I was a little concerned when I saw music, but when I saw that about Developmental Hell, I thought "Wheel of Time or Alcatraz has GOT to be in there."

You know that you're a Sanderfan when the christening event of getting a new laptop is listening to a Brandon Sanderson interview. -
The question is- will Kobold continue to use cap locks for all his posts until he gains a new rep level?

This is a Cosmere discussion, so I'm moving it-all-over to Cosmere. That being said, right now, I'm pretty sure Vin would win. The only way Shallan could possibly have a chance is if Vin's stripped of metals, and Shallan's got quite a bit more time to train.

Welcome! What books have you read of Brandon Sanderson?
-
This topic has been moved, because it's a Cosmere (cross-world) discussion, and so it should be in a Cosmere forum. Thanks!

Just got the Sharp Aquos Crystal. It's nice, I like it. The screen's a lot bigger than I'm used to.

I'm a native English speaker and now speak Spanish fluently, thanks to living in Peru for 2 years. There's no better way to learn than by being completely surrounded by the language.

LDS Influences on Themes (Theology Time)
Zas678 replied to The Rooster's topic in General Brandon Discussion
So. The influences of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Brandon Sanderson. This topic has been very interesting to read. I'm an active member of the church, and I actually just got back from a 2 year full-time mission for the church. I've thought about this topic a lot, personally, and here are some of the connections that I would like to mention. One is that Brandon, as he has said, is a "prude" which to me is one of the most clear signs of the LDS influence. We believe that sexual relations should wait until after marriage. He keeps sexual relations off screen and on the down low and it doesn't mention his characters having those relationships until they get married (such as Elend and Vin). Now if they're having these interactions off screen and without mention is possible (as I remember Brandon saying once), but he leaves it to personal interpretation. Another about military- and it is a bit different, I admit. But I just barely got back from a 2 year mission for the LDS church, as Brandon did many years ago. I went and for 2 years had limited communication with my family (email once a week and 2 phone calls a year). All my time was dedicated to sharing the gospel, and to help me do that, there is an organization in the mission. There's the basic companionship of 2 missionaries that have a specific area- then there's a missionary that's over 2 or 3 companionships, than a companionship of missionaries who's over 2 or 3 of those leaders, and so on and so forth. It is a type of organization that allowed me to see many different leadership styles and see what worked and what didn't. I saw leaders who would do anything for the missionaries under their care, and others who seemed like they just didn't care. It's not the same as the military- I have the highest respect for those that are willing to defend their country, even with their lives. But it seems to me like serving a mission gives an idea of how the military might be. There's a level of influence in the mission (as I imagine it would be in the military) that goes way beyond any other boss, teacher or counselor. I at least recognize more of that reading Brandon's books now. Another one- It seems like Nohaden is based off of (at least partially) King Benjamin from the Book of Mormon. If you ask the majority of members of the Church, they will know about King Benjamin's speech at the end of his life that is to his people that talks about prayer, service, being a good parent, and about Christ. But it often isn't remembered that before that, he was a general and fought and defended his people with the sword. It's something similar with Nohaden. His teaching are fairly similar to King Benjamin's in The Way of Kings, and it's what he's most known for. But before that, he had to fight to defend and unite his people, something very few people know. I will likely have more as I think and remember more. And if anyone has more direct questions about the church or about why I believe what I believe, shoot me a message and I can explain a little more. Always happy to! -
I'll be there! And possibly in costume. It should look awesome. And I went to something similar to this about 2 years ago- there was a pretty big turnout for all of the authors, so there should be a good number total there.

I'm in too. Sign me up! For names.... Not sure.
