Meh, google has revealed to me that although original to me, this is theory isn’t original to the 17th shard
-
Here’s the theory up front: I think Hoid may be responsible for their being Feruchemy on Scadrial. This isn’t to say that he is solely responsible for it, but that it probably wouldn’t have shown up, or at least not the way it did if not for him. The foundational information for this theory is: 1 Per the Hero of Ages Epigraphs, Allomancy is of Preservation and Hemalurgy is of Ruin but Feruchemy is presumed to be some hand wavy result of the interaction of their combined shardic influence. 2 WoB seems to show that Feruchemy requires Terris heritage. source 3 It’s popularly theorized with evidence that the Worldbringers, a sect of Terris, were founded by Hoid, much like Roshar’s Worldsingers. 4 WoB is that Hoid uses Feruchemy to know where he needs to be. source So the theory is that instead of Hoid showing up on Scadrial and meeting some feruchemically powerful individuals and founding the Worldbringers among them, he catalyzed a change in the spiritual DNA of individuals without formed investiture allowing them to access feruchemical power to facilitate their mission. The word catalyzed was carefully chosen, because I think the investiture still comes from Preservation and Ruin, but Hoid somehow nudged what was there to allow it to form into the power of Feruchemy for the Terris people. An unlikely bonus derivative theory is that the Terris people are decedents of Hoid, as he had love interests in the past per WoB.

Additional, related request: a way for anonymous questioners to get attributed. Inspiration: I just came across a reddit post where someone mentioned asking a particular question at a particular event and after having the pleasure of looking up his WoB, I saw that his question is attributed to “Questioner” and wished there was a way the guy could get credit for it. If it matters here’s the comment: It’s #20 of the San Diego signing https://wob.coppermind.net/events/172-oathbringer-san-diego-signing/#e8562 Edit: he also says

Arcanum, the Brandon Sanderson Archive, Is Here!
Serack replied to WeiryWriter's topic in Arcanum Discussion
As the official WoJ (Jim Butcher) “Guru” I’m totally jealous of the tool you guys have created here. I could never live up to the standard you guys have set! This is an absolutely amazing resource, and I’m probably one of the people who best understands some sliver of the dedication and hard work it took (sliver because I haven’t even dabbled in the massive coding effort you guys have done here) so amazed -
I'm a pretty big contributor on the Jim Butcher forums, and I'll quote his recommendations below. First leme say that his biggest recommendations in this order are: Lois McMaster Bujold (sci fi) Patrick Rothfuss Sanderson (duh) Glen Cook's Black Company novels Ok now for the quotes of recommendations Jim has made at signings and interviews:

I thought it might be a Jonah reference

Here are the quotes I found describing arrowhead shaped or arrowlike faces, from my earlier research. Nothing on Parshandi or Parshmen though. (I usually include chapters in quotes like this, but my ebook groups things by book and not chapter for The Way of Kings) The first interlude: I thought the scene where Shen got upset when the parshandi corpses were moved described his face as being arrow like but reading it doesn't seem to reveal that. Also, the scene where Dalinar notices that some of the Parshandi seem feminine, does some describing of the faces without mentioning any arrow like nature. Also, the scenes where Jasna and Shallan conclude that the Parshmen are voidbringers don't mention the shape of their faces.

The bulk of the mods have already seen my compliments of this place. I'm a pretty big contributor on the Jim Butcher forums, and from that experience I've seen how thoughtful newbies can stir up some good ideas amongst the seasoned veteran theorizers, so before I spend the many hours I intend to do going through the entire Brandononthology, and some of the heavier theory posts here, I thought I'd throw my stick in the mud. I /just/ finished reading The Way of Kings, and right before that I did a reread of Elantris. I haven't read the Mistborn Trillogy in a couple years, and I haven't gotten at Alloy of Law's sample chapters yet. I've read Warbreaker as well. Ok so my thoughts. Unfortunately, my tradeoff for not having to carry around a 20lb blunt weapon is that my e-reader doesn't do a good job of displaying the "journal" Pages... I just saw last night how the script from Navani's notebook has been translated and she seems to equate the stormlight saved in gems with sprens being trapped in them... But if that's the case, how come they only get "charged" in storms? So one of the thing's I am thinking about is the effects of the highstorms... Pummel the land Infuse Gems with Stormlight Nourish the land with crem infused water I'm wondering if there is some hidden significance with the crem water... Remember that the lake in that interlude retracts before the storm, and that it was emphasized a few times that the water that flows through the gullies in the shattered plane goes somewhere... And people spent time chipping off the crem stalactites and such... which is either just another world enriching detail to make it seem interesting, or could have extra meaning for the crem... When it precipitates out of water, it seems to harden and such, yet the plant life in the books seems to have become animated and laps it up. (I wonder if there is no crem in the Shen lands) It is probably also associated with so much of the fauna having exoskeletons... Speaking of exoskeletons... well I'll save that for my next post, since this one is getting long and rambly ETA: 1 more thing... I could have sworn there was a description of parshendi or parshamen having arrow shaped faces, but 45 min of searching on my e-book came up with nothing. Can anyone substantiate that one?

Sure did, thanks. Dunno how I didn't see it earlier unless it wasn't available until I broke the 10 post count threshold (something the jim butcher forums requires) Now to go and chat up the theory section.

I was able to upload an avatar to my profile, but it does not show up yet on my posts, so I was wondering if that requires a certain post count, and if so what that post count is... Also, do posts have a decay period? I.E. do they go poof a set amount of time after creation, or after the last active post?

Was making Warbreaker free a good idea or a bad idea?
Serack replied to ZeldaDad's topic in Warbreaker
I agree with you 100% on this. do we know what the #'s were for sales on this book? How did they compare to the Way of Kings? -
I second those that recommend Jim Butcher and Patrick Rothfuss. Especially now that Butcher's 13th book in the Dresden Files is out. Waiting for that sucked, so it's easier to recommend people start reading without fearing that they might stab me while I'm sleeping for introducing them to a series that was currently stopped between books on a major cliffhanger. Jim Butcher is a realllllly great guy too. And if you get a chance I recommend you watch this where Patrick Rothfuss reads an article he wrote for an "advice column" when he was in college. It made me laugh so hard I cried.Edit: I just watched it again, and my ribs hurt.

Is there a decay rate for posts on these boards? Edit: And do I have to get over a certain post threshold for my avatar to show up?

This wins. I always figured this was who his mother was, but this is some awesome sleuthing for evidence. +1 Apparently I wasn't paying enough attention because I missed that. Awesomeness.

Without having read through it, does the brandonothology (what a keyboardfull) include every signing Q&A session and such that a recording can be found of on the internet? Or are there youtube video's of Q&A sessions or con pannels that haven't been transcribed, and thus arn't there?
-
Looks like I will be spending time this weekend reading the brandonothology. Oh, and I forgot about Brandon's YA books, which I haven't read, so I haven't read everything Do you guys have a forum shorthand for Brandon Sanderson? I can't bring myself to say BS. Do you have a list of common acronyms?

This forum and wiki is pretty dang impressive. I hope something official like it materializes for Patrick Rothfuss since his work is pretty dang deep too. I'm a pretty big contributer for the Jim Butcher forums and some of you might recognize me from there I guess. I haven't read the new Mistborn book but other than that I've read everthing Sanderson has written so far and own everything but Warbreaker, which I didn't find as stellar as everything else he has written. After reading Jim Butcher's Changes cliffhanger last year I was not terribly interested in investing myself into more longrunning series, but caved in in the past few weeks and picked up the latest instalment of WoT, the Way of Kings, and both Rothfuss' published Kingkiller Cronicle books, as well as some other stuff. So thanks to all you guys that put in so much great effort into the wiki and in helping distribute quotes from Sanderson's book signings and such (Jim Butcher signed my nook "To the WoJ Guru" referring to "Word of Jim" which means Jim Butcher quotes), so I love that kind of stuff.

Ya'll rock. The couple hours I've been exposed to the 17th shard has me pretty impressed with it's structure. I'm pretty active on the Jim Butcher forums (although not so much the past month or so) and have done a lot to contribute there, so I'm rather aware of the sheer amount of effort it takes to do some of the stuff that's here. Thanks for the quick support guys. Some of ya'lls wiki-foo is pretty impressive too.

The wiki topics on "the letter" say However, the embeaded link does not seem to work. Anyone got any insite on this?
