I would like to announce that Brandon is my favorite author! (just in case it wasn't obvious by my being here)

Good stuff. Thanks Fejicus!

Possible theory here as to the location of missing plate and blades. The Shin are hiding them. I had to expand on my thoughts put in a different thread, because I felt they had some credibility. 1. Look at what they say about Szeth. When he dies, they will "recover it" -The Shin are a people who look down on soldiers, yet they know how to do something with the blades. No explanation is given on how they will recover the blade, but I think there is more to this. Szeth will be keeping his blade for a while(just my opinion), since he is a main POV. But definitely something is going on here, or is this a red herring? 2. They have an aversion to warfare. Who better to hide them. They won't be used. - The "Cultivation is in Shinovar" theory really holds weight here. What better gift to cultivate life than to rid warring countries of a weapon this powerful and save them for when they are needed upcoming Desolation. 3. Szeth found his own blade in Shinovar where none were supposed to be. (could relate to his being Truthless) - If this is false, then my theory is completely blown, but here's to hoping I am right! Let the discussion begin!

Aand... That isn't confusing at all.(sarcasm) But seriously, this is the way I saw it. The visions are a spiritual/cognative "video log" made by Honor to prepare whoever saw it for the coming Desolation. Not knowing how he(Honor) can interact with people, such as placing thoughts in your head, reading minds, other random god power, etc... I think the visions were the only way Honor could put out the info. And since you can't completely destroy a shard, the spinters of his power - the "video log" - was waiting for the right person to find. Hope this helps.

If you look at the quote from when Kaladin rode the storms "Child of Tanavast. Child of Honor. Child of one long since departed." (added emphasis) I think Honor has been dead a while.

IMO, the Radiants quit for two reasons. 1. The Heralds quit and said they won the last desolation(most recent) 2. Without desolations, the need for the orders "to remain vigilant for the desolations"(not an exact quote, but I don't have the reference with me) was no longer valid due to the first. There may be other factors to this, related to the theories above, but I feel this is the basest of reasons.

It was also mentioned by the trader, Vstim, in Interlude 4. Pg 435 ebook loc. 9249. Hope this helps. I can't copy the quote.

I posted this in the "Dalinar visits the spirit realm" thread. It could throw another proverbial wrench in the discussion. Since we are lacking a lot of critical information, this is also just a theory with my take on things. I found an essence thai fits the spirit theory and Dalinar in some aspects. 3. Chach - Gemstone: Ruby - Essence: Spark - Body Focus: The Soul - Suolcasting Properties: Fire - Primary/Secondary Divine Attributes: Brave/Obedient. The Body focus being the soul solidifies the theory, also, the "Divine Attributes" Bravery and Obedience. Bravery fits Dalinar - saving Elhokar from the chasmfiend and the Tower battle. Obedience is a little tougher since he is at the top of the food chain so to speak, but there is some support there. He listens to Elhokar in the search for assasins, the chasmfiend hunt was also Elhokar's idea if I remember correctly, and he obeys/follows the ideas from "The Way of Kings" and his visions. It is somewhat of a stretch on the obedience part, but I like the idea. Edit: spelling

This is an interesting theory. AFAIK, we haven't seen the spiritual realm yet. This could be an introduction to said realm, as well as a glimpse further into Dalinar's powers/ KR order. I will look at the Ars Arcanum to see if there is a reference to dealings with the spiritual realm. Edit: I found an essence thai fits the spirit theory and Dalinar in some aspects. 3. I think you said it better than me, DJ.

IMO, Dalinar is showing us the beginning process of finding his power where Kaladin was showing us how the process changes you and part of the why. (displaying honorable traits) I hope this is comprehensible, since Kaladin was also discovering, but further along than Dalinar.

Theory: Honor's Shard Shattered Like Adonalsium
Kelek replied to FeatherWriter's topic in Cosmere Discussion
In reference to the "Timeline" thread, I figured that Tavanast was around after the KR gave up. And that was where Odium got his extra boost to shatter Honor. Just my opinion. -
You guys are awesome! Unfortunately new to the whole theory thing as I am, I am very glad to have some good feedback on this. Wiki referencing was an apparent mistake. But it is a good thing there are people to help. I've got the timeline issue straight, right on time for my re-read.(Just finished Warbreaker) Brandon rocks!

Hoid should add a title for himself - Bringerer of waffles to the Cosmere! I am convinced it is his fault.

The Knights Radiant The 10 Heralds founded 10 orders of the Knights Radiant and gave them Shardplate and Shardblades to combat the voidbringers. The 10 orders specialized in different abilities linked to the Herald that founded the order. The Knights Radiant gained their power through spren by creating a bond to them, the only examples are Syl who is an Honor spren shares a bond with Kaladin giving him the power to surgebind and Shallan created a bond with the unnamed spren to soulcast. The Knights radiant lived by their 4 ideals, the first ideal or the Immortal Words was the same for every order: Life before Death, Strength before Weakness, Journey before Destination. The other 3 ideals are different for each order, Kaladin towards the end of The Way of Kings utters the second ideal for the Order of Windrunners: I will protect those who cannot protect themselves. After saying the second ideal Kaladin is able to use Surgebinding more effectively, use larger amounts of stormlight and he gains the soft glow of the radiants seen in Dalinar's vision. Pulled this from Wikipedia. I have looked for your quote Wispy, but I haven't found anything. Looks like it is time for another readthrough.

Ok. thanks to everyone for the posts here. I agree that Nohadon didn't form the Radiants themselves. I guess my main trouble is with when they started being called Radiants. Basically, were Dalinar's visions in a chronological order? And were the Radiants around and fell prior to the Dalinar/Nohadon vision? Could that be why Nohadon wrote the book? Without the KR to look up to, the Oathpact failing, Nohadon felt that he should give the people a guide. I like the theory from Sunblesser, that they were formed/organized by the heralds. My question stems from not enough info. I guess I will have to proceed with a RAFO for now.

I vote hardcover. The entire book is enhanced from the extra artwork and illustrations. I have the eBook and the hardcover, and the latter is definitely my favorite.

Parshendi theory! What if they started the war to pull the KR back to whatever is hidden in the Shattered Plains? I haven't seen this theory yet, so hopefully I am not repeating something already discussed. Using above facts mainly their being honorable, seems to support this. They were specifically looking for KR's? Dalinar? I feel there is a lot to this meeting of shardbearers. I am agreeing with the theory above. *Edited to clarify
-
I feel that I must clarify. Nohadon, imo, was a wise warlord. He led his kingdom through a desolation, united Alethkar, gave his people the "Way of Kings" morals to follow, and wrote said book. A great leader, but I fail to see where he formed the KR, which seems to be a popularly believed thought/assumption. Please correct my ignorance or support my theory. Basically, Help! lol
-
Thank you for the info. It was a very good breakdown. Longtime stalker and just started participating on forums, so I hope I will be able to contribute. I also have to say that another thing that confuses me is Nohadon's role in "forming" the KR. Is it stated that he formed the KR? The way I saw it, he gave the people an honorable way to live. A sort of 'bible', but the actual KR? I thought they had been around fighting in all desolations, aka the Oathpact. Am I confusing the KR with the 10 gods? dawnshards? Whatever the correct term is for them?

Another thing to think about here is the affect of a highstorm on the bridges. Why aren't the permanent wooden bridges blown away now? With highstorms as frequent as they are would't this be a factor for consideration as well? This could be part of the reference above to maintenance. I agree with the stone bridges. The only hinderances I see are from enemy soulcasters/shardbearers. I don't think that the highstorms would affect them as badly and maintenance costs would be much less with comparisons to emeralds vs. garnets. My last point here is to why inflation isn't a worry yet. If you think about the costs of the army: recruiting, pay, taxes for soulcasting, and basic necessities, including food and weapons, it is IMO that these costs are being paid for by the gemhearts. Therefore, focusing on the future as Dalinar does, you have to look at what will happen when the war is over and people gather gemhearts for profit without the worries of entire armies and their state costs. Remember that the Highprinces are still responsible for a small country back in Alethkar.

I am very interested to see if there is a timeline on the last (most recent) Desolation to present events (Beginning of the Last Desolation). My interpretation is that the prologue scene happened after Dalinar's visions, but I have trouble with where Nohadon and his 'Way of Kings' fits. It seems to me that Nohadon and the book came around the last Desolation, because he is the last mention of a unified Alethi kingdom, until Gavilar(sp).

I would have to go with the Blue. They are driven to change the world for the better (unless they are black).
