Demosthenes

This is going to be my first theory. I've read another theory about how TLR gained immortality, but I have another idea. Given: Atim stores youth/age. Ruin can change the content of metalminds. Theory: TLR gained immortality in this manner - Ruin ensured that his metalminds were constantly full, and thus kept TLR eternally youthful. The reason that he had to spend time in his room, aged, is that Ruin wanted to remind him where his immortality came from, and that he did not cause it himself. We know that Ruin would want to keep TLR alive until Vin kills him in the first book, to start the chain of events that will allow him to destroy Scadrial. I have not thought of any particular reason that TLR's immortality would work this way and not in the usual way it is believed to have happened, other than the fact that it is possible, afaik. We know that Ruin could have taken away TLR's stored youth at any time, but chose to keep him alive for his own purposes. I do not think it is too far of a stretch to believe he was responisble for TLR's immortality. Does anyone have an opinion about this?

If you've ever heard of Khan Academy, Sal has a bunch of Physics videos you can watch. I haven't seen them, but if they're like his other videos, they're quite good. He also has videos about Chemistry and perhaps some other sciences. I hope this helps.

I'm just curious as to what this Ookla trend is about. I did a search on the site and Google but didn't come up with anything. Anyways, I changed my display name to Ookla the Indubitable to go along with it. Is there a deep, philosophical reason for this or was it just random?

Skyrim. Gets released. In two days. You might not see any posts from me for quite a while, if it's as good as I hope it is. Also, I've playing D&D 3.5e when I can, as well as a little Magic: The Gathering.

Interesting, considering that I gave up on I gave up on Boneshaker too. The Hunger Games series was pretty good, though I have yet to finish the third book. Anyway, right now, I'm reading Going Postal by Terry Pratchett, which is the funniest Discworld book I've read (out of five, including this one and Pyramids which I put off half-way through.) I'm also reading Steampunk!: An Anthology of Fantastically Rich and Strange Stories, edited by Kelly Link and Gavin J. Grant. So far, the stories I've read have been quite good, and it gets bonus points for having a nifty clockwerk device on the front cover and uneven page edges, just like A Series of Unfortunate Events. edit: Oh yeah, and two of the stories are comics - awesome!

Hey, I'm a brony. Though I'm way behind on the series - I just watched episode 13 of the first season a few minutes ago. Very good for a 'girly' kids show. One of my friends compared it to Invader Zim, but I don't really get the connection. But as far as TV shows go, it's right up there with Avatar, Animaniacs and Zim on the "non-(good) anime kids shows that are actually good" list.

I think just about every university english department has 'a thing' against so called 'paraliterature'. So I believe BYU's dislike of scifi/fantasy has more to do with snobbery than it being 'satanic' or anything like that. Anyways, I would love to take one of Brandon's classes on writing, if they could make a few of them into a free podcast or something like that. I've watched all of Brandon's lectures from cons that have been posted on Youtube, and they are not enough. I can't attend his classes at BYU for a variety of reasons, nor can I afford to go to a bunch of conventions, so being able to experience even one class as a free podcast would be awesome, and in my opinion better than an online course because you don't have to pay for it and you can still get all of the lectures, in some cases.

Limited Super-focus: I can only concentrate on one thing at a time, but when I concentrate, I concentrate. I could probably make fruit juice with it. XD It usually happens when I'm reading, doing math or some other random thing. I will be sitting in my chair reading and will literally not understand or even hear what someone right next to me is saying. I also tend to focus intensly on math or any test or homework. I will devote all of my attention to it until I get it done. Of course, as good as this is for reading, it means that it is mentally impossible for me to multitask. Super-restivness: It is hard for me to stay in one place while I wait for something. Unless there I have a comfy chair and reading material, I will pace around a room until I'm done wating. I actually feel more uncomfortable staying in one place than when I pace. I also tend to fidget a lot. edit: It looks like I have TleeMcCllelan's other powers too. and here's another one I'll post it as soon as I can de-activate my Key Momemt Amnesia.

I don't really have that much of a story. I think it all began when I picked up a Mistborn box set at Borders. I read the first book and loved it. I eventually found out more about Brandon Sanderson, and TWOT. I decided that if Brandon likes it, it must be a good series. However, it was much too long, and I didn't want to attempt it until I knew I'd be able to finish the series without any big gaps between volumes. So I started to collect copies of the series, in both paperback and hardcover until I had eventually garnered a paperback copy of each book in the series. I also have hardcovers of New Spring, Crossroads of Twilight and Knife of Dreams. The only volume I do not have is Towers of Midnight, which I will buy whenever I can. Now I'm reading EOTW, and I'm about 1/5 of the way through.

How could I forget?! I'd love to finish SEL sometime, I really liked it. I wouldn't say western indie comics are better than manga (though there are some of those I like too). I'm sure there are indie mangas in Japan that aren't commercial enough to translate for Westerners, but are at least as good. First chance I get, I am totally doing that.XD I've never been that into Bleach, but used to like Naruto. That is, until I too am somewhere between 2 and 1. Though anime is Japanese for animation, and can technically include any animation, I think it should only apply to Japanese animation, if only so that people know what you're talking about when you say 'anime'.

Does anyone else here like anime? If so, list your favorite series, what you like about anime, or whatever. My favorites: Fullmetal Alchemist (and FmA Brotherhood), Dragon Ball Z, Death Note, Witch Hunter Robin and Mushishi are all very good. For movies: Ghost in the Shell, Summer Wars and Metropolis were all quite good too. Especially Summer Wars, which was simply amazing. I'm also into manga. Right now I like FmA, Mushishi and Claymore. What I like about anime/manga is how diverse it is. There are Sci Fi, fantasy, slice-of-life and pretty much any genre you can think of. Wheras American animation is pretty much just kiddie cartoons or 'adult' sitcom cartoons. Some of them are really good and definitly on par with good anime, like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Batman TAS, but a lot of them aren't all that great. (Though American animation may be getting better. I've seen some episodes of Adventure Time and the first MLP episode, and they're actually quite good.) I think the main reason I like anime/manga is that I like how it tells a story as complex as one found in a regular TV show or movie, except it's animated. And there are things that you can do in anime that would be impossible or ludicrously expensive with live action TV or movies. So why do you like anime?

I am a big fan of Brandon's work, and I've read all his books, except for Alcatraz and TWOT (I've just started The Eye of the World). So go ahead, ask me about anything. (Well, almost anything)
