Re: the Lift interlude, it brought Chromium to mind and, if that be the case, it wouldn't be a "battery." Maybe the crystal acts as a stasis field. So many details!

I noticed that same thing, @Thought. There is << that thing >> in WoR that seems to indicate a sort of opposite-ness going on. 18 months between each of these books is feeling more like an eternity.

At the Dayton signing, a guy had 2 Radiant Order pins - the Windrunner one and (I think) a Lightweaver one. There was supposed to be a whole series of them - one for each book/Order - and they were "limited release," so not available long. I got the Windrunner one last time by ordering some swag, but I didn't see any announcement about a new pin with WoR. Does anyone know how I can get the new pin? - a must-have item!! Also, the same guy had an awesome replica of the Freedom/Bridge 4 tattoo drawn on his forehead (hopefully with eyeliner, not Sharpie!). Seems like an obvious swag item: stencils to help less artistically-inclined fans do the same ...

Interesting. "Threnody" is the name of a young female character in the Monster Blood Tattoo series, but that author routinely re-purposes real words - the main female character's first name is "Europe." I wonder if the "first draft" excerpt he's reading aloud on the WoR tour is set on this world?

It was really fun - a nice big crowd - everyone was so into it - plus meeting fellow Sharders F2F! HUGE thanks to the person who gave Brandon their "anticipation spren" so that I can send mine to be included in the scrapbook. There weren't a ton of deep questions ... darkanimereal1 asked a good one (please post it here - I didn't write it down), and one guy got a RAFO card, but IIRC his question wasn't on WoR. Several questions were from children - how awesome that they were there! I wanted to let others have the spotlight, so didn't ask the questions I'd prepared for the Q&A (Is Jezrien really drooling? and, If we really knew the full backstory on the Heralds, would we still feel sorry that they get tortured after dying in a Desolation?) Lots of folks were just starting to read WoR at the signing, so it's probably a good thing we didn't spoil it too much for them. One question I did ask at the signing table is, Is Roshar a spherical planet? He surprised me by saying Yes. I had theorized that it used to be a planet, but had been transformed into a plane that functions as an arena, where 2 sides battle it out. Huh. No more theories for me. I really, really wish these books will be published less than 18 months apart!

Argent, I have the images Angie provided all set up in 2 Word docs. I'm pressed for time now, as I need to leave soon to drive to Dayton, but if you PM me with your email address, I'll email you the files tomorrow morning. It's pretty easy to make them & they look fantastic!

Angie, I printed out some cards on cardstock, so if you see this before shipping anything to me, you can skip that. I wan't sure I'd have time to print cards due to my work schedule, but it worked out. If you did send me some cards, I'll use yours and mine both. And I KNEW that gorgeous book in the photo with Emily was your handiwork!!! It looks amazing! I am not planning to bring any pens because the bookstore sells pens, and I want to be a good neighbor on behalf of Brandon, Tor, and all of us Sharders. The cards are designed so that just ballpoint or even pencil will look just fine.

Also, FYI - In order to actually get your book signed, you have to buy it there.(I bought and read the e-book, so as to purchase my hardback copy in Dayton.) The Dayton bookstore does check receipts and you can't get in the signing line without one. You can be there and ask questions without buying a book, but no autograph.

I am SO stoked about the Dayton signing! Just finished WoR (e-book) early this morning: even more awesome than I had hoped. I hadn't thought that I'd not be able to sit in the regular seats - I hope the bookstore doesn't want me at a separate table all alone - guess that'll be up to me. I'm a not the best photographer, but will try to get a photo to send you. Today I'm going to whip up something a little extra for folks in the front rows. If it turns out, it'll make for a great picture. Thank you, Thank you, karaokeang for making this happen!

I'm near Cleveland and have volunteered to be the "Tour Archivist" for the Dayton signing - see this post for info: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/6177-wor-tour-scrapbook-your-participation-requested/ I'll be bringing cards for folks to sign and also (I hope!) a little something extra that will make for a cool tour photo/video. A friend has volunteered to ride with me, so I won't be driving home late all alone (yawn!) like the last few signings; I'm taking the day off work and he's in job-search mode and has the time. I've worked a lot of extra hours so far this month and am able to take the 19th as a comp day - thankful to have that type of job! I don't mind driving to Dayton. The store is a great site for an event like this and it's easy to find right off the freeway. Please everyone come who can! Costumes might net you a Szeth stand-up figure!

This new plan is not making sense to me - it seems like it will only work for the tour stops before your own, kareokeang. For those of us who are (much) later, are we thinking that Brandon or his people will be bringing the book along, and giving it to us to assemble on-site with pages you send us? That doesn't seem to fit with the "no work on his part" strategy. Maybe there's no good way those of us after Seattle can participate, other than sending you our cards now, so you'll have them by the time BS gets to you? (If that's the case, and you've already mailed me something, I'll reimburse you for postage - it's so awesome of you to be organizing this in the first place!) I'm pretty good at logistics, but I'm a little stumped here. Help?

Thanks karaokeang for your patient reply! This sounds like it will work well. And if Brandon wants the Tour Archivists to mail the cards to you (or your designee :-), I'm sure that will be no problem either. It would mean that we'd have to stay at our signing till all the cards are "delivered," but weren't we all planning on doing that anyway...? Can't wait till March 4! There are anticipationspren/red streamers everywhere!

I will be at the Dayton Ohio signing & am willing to help, though I'm a little confused about how this is working. The first post said we'd be distributing cards & having people write messages, etc., then hand the cards to Brandon when he signs WOR for them. Then somewhere later in the thread it seems to say you are shipping the actual album pages around and the "archivist" is supposed to assemble the cards from their location into the book - - ?? How will it get to each signing in time, unless Brandon's people themselves carry it? How will it work for the tour stops that occur after the Seattle signing? Or are we to send the cards back to you for assembly? I will email you re: my address, etc., but I thought others would have these questions too so am posting them here. This is a fantastic idea and the artwork for the cards is amazing! We'll make it fly!

I know this thread is all-but-dead, but I wanted to share a cool idea that a friend had re: tDH. She said that JKR missed a huge opportunity at the very end. Along with the Potter, Weasley, and Malfoy families & their kids, someone else should have shown up - looking terrified - with his wife & child: Dudley Dursley. He was Petunia's son, after all, so the potential could have been there. There were other missed opportunities, but I would've really liked to have seen this plot twist in the book.

This Bridge 4 t-shirt design is way better than the design on the previous shirt (which I wore to the AMoL signing - BS said it was the first one he'd seen on the tour). Now I guess I'll have to get this one too... ;-)

No idea what to expect in Book 3 - Rothfuss has pretty much said that Kvothe/Kote is "an unreliable narrator" so who knows how much of what he's dictating to Chronicler is real? I agree with everyone's feelings re: Auri. For her, no less than the other characters, there's ta sense of impending tragedy. Usually I don't like books that are so relentlessly sad, but these characters and the world-building make the series worthwhile. Re: Bast - maybe this is already on some forum or in Tor's re-read already; I don't have time to read everything (alas) - but I have a sneaking suspicion that "reshi" doesn't mean teacher. What if it means "arch-enemy"? And he's trying to bring back the old Kvothe so that they can resume a battle of some kind? I'm not putting a ton of belief into this theory, but I think it's interesting. I just wish Mr. Rothfuss could take a dose of Brandon's speediness! The waiting is awful!

@Luke.spence # 57 if all goes to plan, I'll be in Dayton too. It's a 4+ hour drive for me, but as you said totally worth it. Hoping for good driving weather!

Song of Albion - especially the first 2 books, The Paradise War and The Silver Hand - are among my all-time favorites. It helped that I wasn't overly familiar with celtic mythology, so didn't anticipate the plot too much but experienced it along with the characters. Lawhead is, IMO, a little better than Brandon at "gnomic" passages - wise sayings, like you find in tLoR. The maze in tPW and the upriver climb in tSH really give one a lot to think about, allegorically. I agree that the way the 3rd Albion book ended wasn't the best; several ofLawhead's other books are, IMO, really lacking or even awful. To me, his best are the Song of Albion, the initial 3 Pendragon books, and Byzantium. The newest series, Bright Empires, started well but IMO fizzled in the fifth and final book - pity, it had such promise. Glad to find another SRL fan here!

Totally agree re: the "children's lit" classification. I actually read a lot of YA/tween lit, as do many of my friends. I find that YA plots and characters can be just as polished and well thought-out as "adult" books, and the books are (usually) shorter so they go faster. Did you find yourself using H-C slang? I know I did - so fun to mutter "Ye daft basket" and confuse one's friends. ;-) For my part, I'd love to see more of the adventures of Atticus Wells (Corser's Hinge hero), and also find out what happened to the rescued girl Violet Grey. After what she went through, I want her to become a teratologist - maybe apprentice to Europe! BTW, I don't think Corser's Hinge is in the new book - I think that will contain 3 new novelette-length stories. But maybe you're referring to something else? I only just found out about that story in the last few months & bought the anthology as an e-book ... was it published before that? - maybe on his blog? Can't keep up! So many books, so little time ... :-)

Excellent! Another MBT fan! Really, this series is the closest thing I've found to tLoR, albeit in the tween lit category. Cornish published a short story, "The Corser's Hinge," in an anthology - available un the US as an e-book. He has a new book - "Tales of the Half Continent" - coming out in Australia in March 2014. No idea how to get it in the US, but I'm going to find a way. :-) Also, he is publishing draft chapters of a new H-C tale, "Economous Musgrove," on his blog every week or so. He welcomes comments and feedback, so it's like you're helping him hone his drafts (sort of like Brandon's Llamas). Rossamund and Europe do not appear in these new stories, though some former characters do. Hope we can get others on board - it really is a delightful series. For those who aren't acquainted with it yet: MBT is not horror at all; rather, there is a sweetness to the stories, almost an innocence. On the Half Continent, there are real monsters, and a hero who slays one gets tattooed with a couple drops of its blood: the series title is literal. VERY creative use of language, and the illustrations are wonderful - especially the zoomable online map! Highly recommended. :-)
