  1. Its not easy to pick just one favorite character because they are all interesting, but as I impatiently waited for Vasher's apparitions since the beginning I voted for him (I usually like the scholars and warriors the best in a story; Vasher being both has to be on my top-list of favorites )
  2. You know you are a 17th shard fan when you desperately look for the upvote button in other forums and are frustrated not to find it ^^'
  3. Stormlight Archive is my winner so far, but I havn't read everything yet
  4. That's funny, I see him the exact same way from the beginning too! (which is quite surprising as don't especially like the actor). As you say, it is mostly the condescension of the character that gave me this impression, I even hear his voice in my head when I read Hoid's lines ^^'' (and I join the club of those who picture Dalinar as very attractive, in a "rough-not-pretty-but charismatic way" )
  5. When you notice the words "stolens breaths" in a song and wonder if the singer did read Warbreaker
  6. That is not true. On the contrary, we should remember that downvotes (just like upvotes, for that matter) apply only to a specific post, not to a whole person. In real life, even the persons you love the most can sometimes say something you don’t want to hear for various reasons. When you say to a friend “don’t talk about this, it makes me uncomfortable”, it does not mean that you don’t care about them anymore, just that this specific subject is sensitive. And if you can say something like that to someone you love, you should be allowed to express freely your disagreement on a public forum, even if it is via a downvote/dislike system. Not everybody is enough a ease with words to post a 2 pages explanation on why they disagree or are hurt by something, and not everybody has the time (or care enough) to do so; should that mean that they don’t have a right to express their own opinion? Either we have a quick and easy way to like/unlike, or we don’t. None asks for an explanation when they get upvotes, why should there be one for the downvotes ? Well, in my opinion, you certainly should not change who you are just because of a ranking system in some public forum. If YOU think there is a problem with the way you interact, it is good that you try to improve that; but if it is in reaction to the fact that some people don’t always agree with you, it is another matter entirely. None will ever achieve a total consensus and I personally think it is a very good thing. Maybe I am just lucky to be one of those who don’t care much about what people think of them; maybe it is because I never got downvotes yet, but I must admit that I find difficult to understand why it matters or hurt so much As for the anonymity of the upvote/downvote, I find it a very good thing, even though I never used the downvote yet. As a principle, I am strongly against the fact that anything and everything under the sun should be controlled, regulated and monitored. Yes, there always will be jerks to abuse the system for personal vendettas, but it is not a reason why we should change said system. I am afraid that making the downvotes non-anonymous would only either lead to open war and grudges between the concerned persons or discourage people to ever disagree with something, out of fear of reprisal.
  7. I know only the 4 last Doctors and "my" Doctor is still Dr Ten, although I really love Matt Smith too. My favourite monsters are the weeping angel; although they don’t really kill people, I find the whole concept of the living statues quite disturbing and scary (I live nearby a beautiful cathedral with an amazing number of gargoyles ... I don’t see them on the same light anymore now that I know of the angels ^^’’) And Blink is one of my favourites episodes, the idea of the easter eggs in the DVD is terrific (and the sequence of the dialogue is memorable )
  8. So true! I’m past forty and I still dream sometimes that I missed the first day of class and that I’m lost on the campus, not knowing were to go and certain that my whole life will be ruined because of that
  9. I seriously doubt that; I don't have kids myself and most of my friends my age are in the same case. We still all agree that life feels much better for us today than when we were younger. It seems that a lot of people gain confidence and serenity over the years, although, of course, it is not true for everyone
  10. Good question, I imagine them as an uglier and scarier version of the ogres in World of Warcraft ^^'
  11. I actually have younger versions in mind, to me Ben Barnes is still Prince Caspian and Kirsten Dunst Lux Lisbon As for Dalinar, I must have misread his age; I always pictured him in his late forties (which still makes Olmos and his 68 years a bit old for the role in my opinion). But I must say that I don't always picture book character as they are describes by the author : most of the time, I imagine them as I want them to look like (for instance, I know that Kelsier is supposed to be blonde, but I can’t help but picturing him with the looks of Hugh Jackmann in Wolverine, vest top included ) I admit that Woody Harrelson would be great in the role, though.
  12. That is very good news for me, I really look froward to learn more about my favorite character <3
  13. It seems that we all have a different view of Dalinar; to me, he is an older version of Jason Flemmyng in the role of Azazel in The X-Men movie (minus the red skin, of course). I love E.J. Olmos as Adama, but he seems too old to be Dalinar who is supposed to be in his late forties. Jasnah could be Eva Green, Shallan Kirsten Dunst, Kaladin Ben Barnes and Tom Hiddleston Hoid. Navani could be an older Kate Beckinsale. Strangely enough, I cannot think of anyone for Adolin although I really like the character. For Mistborn, Matt Smith would be a fine Elend and Maisie Williams a great Vin; when I read “The Alloy of law”, I couldn’t help but picture Wax and Wayne as Robert Downey jr and Jude Law, like in the Sherlock movie, as the tandem worked very well for me
  14. Same question here, I guess we don't all have the same childhood/teenagehood For my part, no, I would'nt want to go back to my teenage years, which was probably the worst time of my life, I feel way better now. I don’t like to say that wisdom comes with age because it is obviously not always true, but it is certain that I am more serene and happy today that I was twenty years ago. Maybe I’d like to go back to my thirties, because I didn’t have to dye this damnation greying hair, but that's pretty much everything that I regret from my younger years
  15. When you make the Snoopy dance because the copy of Steelhart that your ordered 3 weeks ago is here, at last ! (Of course, I already have Firefight for 3 weeks, just to make the wait seem even longer )
  16. So true! were is the PETA when we need them ?
  17. Does working in a College count as "being in college" ? No? then my fortysomething and I have to join the not so "wise people"
  18. I absolutely second that I voted other, as I am a neo-pagan « witch » of the Reclaiming tradition. I don't believe in specific Gods or Godesses, but I believe there are forces that rules our universe; to me, personifying them is a way to help starting to comprehend them.
  19. Welcome and keep up the good job at "converting" people to the Cosmere
  20. I can't help but picturing the parshendi in warriorform like the Ronso of Final Fantasy X without horns
  21. You know you're a Sanderfan when you consider creating a 52nd character in World of warcraft called Adolin, just to provide a “son” to your paladin named Blackthørn ^^’’
  22. I eventually grew accustomed to my first name, but I really had trouble with it when I was young (not that it is ugly, but it was very uncommon back then and it felt weird to be the only one in the class to have an “rare” name). My own mother called me Morticia for years, (now she tends to call me Abby, because NCIS is more fashionable that the Addams family nowadays >_< ) and my friends often call me “Mei Mei” (little sister) or Mémé (granny) because it is the first syllable of Méline, my real name. (but storm, I would have loved to be named Morticia for real )
  23. Its funny, I just Finished The alloy of law and last night, I dreamed that I was lost in the country because my train had gone to a wrong direction. I met a very nice young woman who helped my find my way again and she gave me her business card so that we can keep in touch. When I look at it after she left me, I noticed that she was camed Glen Mistrevels. ("you know you are a Sanderfan when ... " )
  24. Gillian Flynn's Sharp objects is terrific (even more than Gone girl to my taste) and pretty much everything written by Fred Vargas
