I'm hesitant to vote on this one, as I don't know the extent of Alcatraz's abilities. Can anyone tell me, preferably without many major spoilers?
-
And Vin defeats Susebron in round 3! And in the next round, Szeth, the Assassin in White, will take on Alcatraz *insert cool description of Alcatraz here* (Sorry, I haven't read the Alcatraz series). Who will move on to the next round?
-
This makes me even more curious as to why Hoid has got a beef with Bavadin. Autonomy doesn't really seem like something that is evil, so perhaps Hoid disliked him before he obtained the shard?
-
. That made me laugh far harder than it should have. I have realized my mistake. With ATIUM Vin is almost invincible.
-
I'm going to vote for Vin. I don't know how to do spoiler tags, so spoilers for all of Mistborn. With atrium, Vin is damnation near invincible. Susebron is a God King? Vin has killed Gods and kings. Plus, Vin is my favorite character
-
And Hoid defeats Wax in Round 2! Up next is Vin, one of the most powerful Mistborn of all time, against Susebron, the God King of Hallandren. These two are both powerhouses, this should be a good one!
-
That. Was. Awesome.
-
And Human the Koloss defeats the highest ranked contestant Lopen! But did he lose an arm in the process? Next up is Wax, our favorite gunslinger from Scadrial, against Hoid, the mysterious worldhopper! Who will win round two?
-
Yes, I didn't know who to cut, so I just had my roommate, who knows nothing about Sanderson, randomly pick who would get the final spots.
-
The nomination period is now over. I will provide a link so you all can view the bracket momentarily. There are a few contestants with only one vote that I will enter randomly. Here is the link: http://challonge.com/otyu7vz2 Please let me know if this link doesn't work. I will also post it in the first post to make it more convenient than searching through to find this. The first match-up is Lopen vs. Human the Koloss. Remember that you can vote however you wish! You can vote for whoever you think would win in a fight, or whoever you like more! Please explain why you are voting for each person, this won't be any fun if all you say is "I'm voting for Lopen." Each match will last about a day.
-
I like this idea. Currently it is 10:35 A.M. I'll extend the deadline until 1:00 P.M, so everyone has about two and a half hours to make any final votes.
-
Whichever option gets more votes by noon-ish tomorrow (Eastern Standard Time) will be what I go with. Does that sound fair?
-
That it does! Now we have two options: 1. We can continue to nominate for another day, but not all characters would be entered. In the case of a tie for the final position, we would vote on who we want to enter. 2. The nomination period is over, and the first match would be fought tomorrow. Everyone that has been nominated will be entered. I'll leave this decision up to all of you. .

Vin is currently tied for 2nd for nominations. I don't think you need to worry about her making it into the tournament
-
Marsh x1 Szeth x2 Raoden x2
-
I'm thinking another day. If we can get to 32 characters we could have a bigger tournament, or we could just take the top 16 and start a bit sooner. Right now we are at 20-ish.What would you all rather do? I'll update standings in a bit, I'm busy at the moment.
-
Yes, right now we are simply voting on the people we want in the tournament. In a few days the tournament will officially start, and whoever has the most votes will be entered.
-
No worries! I get that time zones may make this a bit weird
-
I'll go ahead and do my nominations so you know what it looks like Nominations: Vin x1 Kelsier x1 Marsh x1 The Lord Ruler x1 Kaladin x1

Here is the link to the bracket: http://challonge.com/otyu7vz2 So I've been playing around with a tournament bracket generator a bit, and I thought it would be kind of fun to do one for some Sanderson characters, but involve the 17th Shard. I thought this was done very well in a Kingdom Hearts forum I'm also on, so I'm just going to do this one the same way he did that one. We will have a nomination period where everyone can nominate their favorite characters to enter the tournament. Everyone gets five nominations a day. You could vote for one person 5 times, or 5 people one time (I hope that makes sense). I will attempt to update the standings whenever I can. Depending on the number of characters nominated, I will divide the characters into a bracket of 16 or 32. I will divide them by seeding (the character with the most nominations will fight the character with the fewest nominations). You can nominate any character you want, Cosmere or non-cosmere. Once the tournament officially starts, each match will probably last about a day. During this time, you simply say who you vote for and why. Perhaps this can start some discussion. You can vote however you like! You can vote on the character you think would win in a fight, or which character you like more. I will post a link that allows you to see the standings once all the nominations are finalized. If you guys like this, I will attempt to update this whenever I can, I'll do my best. Current Standings: Lopen x13 Kaladin x12 Dalinar x11 Nightblood x11 Vasher x7 Wayne x6 Kelsier x6 Vin x6 Alcatraz x5 David Charleston x5 Grandpa Smedry x5 Sylphrena x5 Obliteration x5 Spook x5 Joel x5 Wax x4 Hoid x3 Marsh x3 Marasi x2 The Lord Ruler x2 Adolin x2 Lightsong x2 Raoden x2 Szeth x2 Susebron x2 Miles 'Hundredlives' Dagouter x2 Shai x2 Dilaf x2 Prof x1 Megan/Firefight x1 Human the Koloss x1 TenSoon x1 Harmony x1 Odium x1 Hrathen x1 Sarene x1

I've read all of them, so I know everything that happens. I'm just rereading them and I noticed this, and I don't remember ever finding out who he was.
-
Indeed, I just read that part. Should of read a bit farther before bringing it up, but oh well. Still, do we have any idea who the Mistborn is?
-
I've been rereading the Mistborn Trilogy in preparation for Shadows of Self, and I've noticed that there are a few Allomancers that we (or I) don't know the identity of. Minor spoilers for The Final Empire and The Well of Ascension. In The Final Empire, while Vin is fighting Shan Elariel, there is another Mistborn that is with Shan. She defeats him early on in the battle. It is implied, however, that he survived the encounter. Here is what is said by Straff Venture: Elend sighed. "Did we capture any of the assassins alive, then?" Straff shook his head. "One fell to the courtyard as he was trying to flee. He got away- he might have been Mistborn too. We found one man dead on the roof, but we aren't sure if there were others in the team or not." This is on page 531 (paperback) if you want to check. Also, as I was reading The Well of Ascension, during the encounter between Vin and the assassins at the assembly (the one where the Assembly will nominate their new king) Vin gets strangled by one of the assassins, who is a thug. This seems unimportant, but then Vin says this in her head: Elend pounded, yelling for help, but his voice sounded distant. The thug pressed his face almost up against Vin's, and she could see his fury. At that moment, incredibly, a thought occurred to her. Where have I seen this man before? (Page 462 paperback) Vin then proceeds to pretty much blow his head up. So any ideas on who these people might be? There may be more hidden allomancers that we don't know about. Their identities may be unimportant, but I suppose it could be fun to speculate in who they might be.

News my friends! I may have introduced someone to Mistborn entirely by chance. I was playing some video games in my dorm room, and the guy in the room next to me came in to see what I was up to. I knew that he was at least somewhat into fantasy, we had had several discussions about LOTR, and we decided that we are going to marathon the movies during finals week. But back on topic. We got into talking about fantasy, and he described to me a series called the Lightbringer series, which seems interesting. He then looked at my desk, and noticed a book that I had just finished rereading. He then asked a question that I was waiting to answer: "What's Mistborn?" I explained the basic concept to him, and he seemed really interested. I let him know he could borrow it whenever he wanted, and he said as soon as he finished Lightbringer he would. I didn't mention the Cosmere at all, I'll bring that up at a later time. But thanks guys! I'll definitely have to try some of the other methods you mentioned.
-
So I have a problem. I really want to get some of my friends into some of Brandon's books, especially the Cosmere ones, but I don't quite know how. Whenever I try, I either rush everything and don't make it interesting enough,or make it seem way to confusing and overwhelming when I tell them most of his books are in the same universe. I also try to avoid spoiling stuff about the Cosmere, such as Hoid and Adonalsium, because I want to see if they can figure it out on their own. So do you guys have any advice?
