Long Game 65: Dancing through Life

After ducking behind one of the many isles of books, breaking visual contact between her and the man she'd spoken to. Hearing footsteps behind her she panicked briefly, fearing they had followed her to ask more questions or bring her to the horns or something. She was pleasantly surprised when a more familiar, friendly voice was what she heard. Straw, the one who'd been doing some research with her earlier had approached. He was asking if she knew anything about the fire. "Oh, ah, hi! Yeah um. No? Well, only what I just learnt. It wasn't me though! I've burnt things often enough to know full well this place is not for fire based anythings. I know better than to let myself anywhere near anything fire related! Do you have any idea how fast fire can spread? Whoever did this must be out of their mind!" She stopped to take a breath and sigh, lowering her voice a little as she noticed others seemed to be paying attention and/or approaching, "Apparently someone set a little fire in some sort of experiment or something, I don't know. Nothing serious but enough to ruffle feathers for sure. I understand why i'm immediately suspect, I typically am. But this actually wasn't me I swear." Her eyes were then drawn to the books he was holding and chuckled slightly "I see you found some interesting books here though. This doesn't seem like something i'd imagine you doing but this wasn't something from them right? Or something someone else might've used as inspiration? No... this is more than simple pranks... but who could it be?"- 951 replies

Long Game 65: Dancing through Life

Bryn arrived at the archives, ready to find some books in the area she apparently excelled at. 'Excelled at cheating in it more like' She thought with a smirk. She stepped inside the unfortunately increasingly more familiar premises that was the Archives. Smoke? That's odd. Not a smell you want there to be in a library. Her brow furrowed into a frown as her pace quickened as she went to find someone who worked here. She approached one of the keepers at the desks. "Um, excuse me sir, may I ask a question?" The man looked up and blinked a few times. must've been pretty immersed in... she glanced at the book in front of him and had to withhold her grimace ugh. Arithmetic history. "Ah, yes of course. What may I help you with?" "Oh uh, I was just wondering about the smell..?" She asked The mans expressions changed, "Ah yes. That. Some careless students apparently found it fitting to perform volatile experiments in a place full of books. As least that's what we think. Its hard to tell but it was definitely something that was started, not naturally occurring." "Oof. Any idea who started it, do you know?" With everything that was going on, maybe it was something bigger? It could be useful to know. The man sighed and shook his head. "We don't know. We're looking into it though, asking anyone who's been around here for any information. Say, you came here recently, asking about 'practical joke' books did you not?" His eyes narrowed "Those wouldn't happen to contain anything about how to start mini fires would they?" "Wh-wha? No? I mean. Maybe? I, there... one of them had something about using lenses but there's not exactly sunlight inside, but I would never..?" she was a little caught off guard. Typically when caught doing something, she was expecting accusations and had her story prepared. This wasn't her doing though... oh no... They're seriously going to believe its me aren't they... "Iiiii can't stay to answer questions though. I really need to uh, find a book on...." she looked around, searching for inspiration "...literacy for my essay thats due..soon.. like... later todaayy, may not have started iiit.... you know? Gotta go!" She began to hurry away from there. She immediately began cursing herself for this reaction. Now it just looked even more like she was the one who did that.- 951 replies

@Zillah I wasn't awake end of last cycle to be able to comment on this, and I know that elaborating on gut reads is a tricky thing to do sometimes, but I admit I'm curious At this point even a few gut reads on people is information, even if im the one thats getting condemned. Just wondering if you've worked out whats feeling off about my posts to you at all, additionally if there's anyone else setting off a gut read. Myself, hm. Reads are hard. Lopen is on my radar currently, (sorry ) but i haven't worked out if thats just past game paranoia or not. I see that last cycle fura brought up that the WGG possibility was strange, which i suppose is a fair point which is maybe whats gotten me curious? Also mentioned lopen putting off voting and arguing for the vote spread. Fura seemed to think that is more elim benifitting. I'm not sure. Lopen is a noble so doesnt need the tuition reductions for votes, but if only the people needing the reductions vote, those tuition based votes could turn into serious consequences so I don't blame him for arguing for the spread, especially since his name was always quickly put into the mix from being noble. Hm. I dunno. Maybe i'm just salty that he was cagey in pms can't blame him for that though, he's learnt from past mistakes ;P Even if i don't fully agree with that post of furas last cycle, i do appreciate the push towards game talk. Cause look! it prompted further discussion! Araris setting off the serious votes late into last cycle also bothers my gut reads because of how sudden and different from what people were doing that it was. But, ah. Hm. It's not out of character. It may have surprised me but i don't know if its suspicious because we do need serious voting to happen for the game to actually pprogress like an elimination game should. With information. and his vote reasoning was fair too. I'm not sure what i think about straw. They had fair reasoning too in that instance. Kinda agree with both araris and straw in a way. Different focuses but i think both had good intentions so village lean both? maybe? Detess has had useful stuff to say. alignment wise i got no idea, but theyre someone id want to keep around for the talkiness Striker i think is alright? Hael... I only remember his fight for rp tuition reductions atm. Oh and the anti linguistics post. I dunno. He's my brother. I find it hard to comment on him There are a bunch of players this game i'm not familiar with. I find it hard to comment on them because of that. Im often inclined to trust new players who sound so innocent just trying to work out this unfamiliar form of mafia, and some I just don't know how to judge. For example Karnage i'm reading soft village, but Silber i'm not sure about, but honestly just think its more i'm reading the character not the player, which i shouldn't do GreenRover hasn't stood out to me in anyway yet i dunno theres a lot of players and ive not really got any real reads if im honest. no point going down the list with neutral remarks. Just figured it was better i have some comments down than none at all, even if they aren't hugely useful- 951 replies

Long Game 65: Dancing through Life

Bryn burst out into laughter as soon as she left the room. She'd been elevated again. What was happening! She wasn't trying to get elevated! she still didn't even know what she truly wanted to dedicate herself to. Maybe the masters just liked her? She had been turning up the charisma and had been very conversational with all the masters she came in contact with. It helped distract them from the truth of her actually not being that good of a student, and the times she was caught for cheating, they had believed her work to be the original. It really did pay to be charismatic and a good actor. Except now she once again felt obliged to maybe pay some attention to what happens in this class. She'd originally chosen it out of curiosity but had written it off after struggling through one month of it. There were many subjects far more interesting. But no. This was what she got elevated in. She was starting to wonder if no one had stuck around in it after the first term. It was entirely possible that whoever had been first recognized in this field had burnt out a little and needed to wait another month or two before pushing themselves in the field again. Well, she wasn't one to complain. Running her hand through her hair, shaking her head slightly, still baffled by what just happened, she made her way towards the archives. She had some researching to do. o_O Apparently scattershotting your ep everywhere is the way to go if you're not fussed where you end up? Imma just assume the two areas i've been raised in aren't super populated. That this cycles one is one that someone went previously, lost all their ep from being elevated in it, and left it open. Kinda feel bad getting elevated twice when theres so many who haven't been elevated at all. I just got elevated in something I put 1 EP into the first cycle and nothing into it since. The choice of target for the sabotage is interesting. Still a noble. But not an elevated player. Curious. I feel like they're perhaps trying to avoid the potential to run into protection but still, its curious.- 951 replies

Long Game 65: Dancing through Life

Bryn walked the halls, a few borrowed books from the archives under her arm. There was a satisfied grin across her face as she observed the occasional student popping a lone candy into their mouths. She hoped the little bit of sugared positivity would help people, even if only slightly, to have a boost of motivation to make it through the new term. Two students went insane last term it it definitely shook her a little, and she knew it had made others concerned as well. She wasn't exactly a model student, and was fond of pranks, but she wasn't heartless. Though she couldn't promise everyone got a flavour that they liked. She wondered what would happen to the one left at the door of the student that cracked. They'd had a baby with them hadn't they? Bryn heard whispers from other students that one of the nobles, Lasko, had taken the baby into their care. Good. They'd be able to afford feeding another mouth. Something Bryn definitely wouldn't want to be juggling. She barely made any money to start with, tuition ate up most of her coin as it was. Maybe i'll give the leftover candy to Lasko for the kid. Though. The kids probably too young for solids. I do not envy the guy. If i were him i'd consider hiring a baby sitter or something or else he might end up with no time to get his studies done. She didn't typically like nobles, even though she often had fun pretending to be one, but maybe this noble was okay if he was willing to put his own needs aside to care for an abandoned baby. (i don't want people to get too distracted from a flavour action I put in for the sake of doing something. Bryn dropped off the candies to everyone as a welcome note thingy. It has no affect on the game, just a random thing for fun. don't overthink it too much >> )- 951 replies

In regards to hael- He (and I for that matter, as we be siblings for those who are not familiar with us) is Australian. This can make rp tricky to do sometimes because of the whole timezone difference. Its far easier to just rp with your own npc like a baby then it is to rp with another player when you're fighting for tuition reductions so need as many rp posts as you can fit into a cycle. So personally I wouldn't look too much into that specifically. Rp in general can be really hard to gauge alignment from. It honestly depends on whose character meshes well with your own. If two elims have characters that get along really well then they might rp, or there might be a villager their character can interact with easier.- 951 replies

No worries lopen, I respect Rng Its been nice to me so far so tis only fair :1 For the sake of spread and tuition reductions i'll put a vote on Straw but I won't be putting a second vote down unless I have a better reason. In theory we should start seeing vote worthy things happening soon. Attacks are starting to have chances of being defended against, abilities are going to be coming into play. Whoever was elevated in naming and physicking will be able to self protect, and any noble who went to the imre last cycle would have been capable of at least buying a bloodless for protection. Plus theres chances for roleblocks and redirects and all sorts of shenanigans starting up which can be telling. I'm very curious to see what goes down from this point on. If i were to pitch in on the whole linguistics thing, the "i am not a skindancer" truth thing is certainly very effective. but since i've already been in a game thats done that, and it really did work well but, i instead really want to see a game where things like plumbobs are getting used- i don't recall if theyve been used at all previous games. Well, if they were, I didn't know about it which is entirely possible If someone does have that ability, please do go ahead and scan as you like. Just be cautious- if skindancers know theres someone lie scanning and asking people to say the phrase, you've immediately gone to the top of the kill list. Besides. all this conversation may be useless and we may be instead blessed with mysterious bulletins each cycle with random jokes and riddles. in anycase I feel like you might actually get more information from bribe the messenger if you use it right. Skindancers aren't gonna wanna help you with linguistic analysis. But i'm just saying, you not only get to know what people are pming, but pms usually are where people info dump everything. and few elims will be spamming their own buddies. You can learn a tonne of puzzle pieces from that, with potentially capabilities to learn much more per cycle than you would from trying to see whos lying or what they lied about.- 951 replies

(Speaking as someone who went naming LG33) It can be risky. Depends on how far you go in it. If you only gain one rank, have the name of the wind, and use names only when necessary, you might only end up with a +1 from gaining a second name. If you use names all the time then for sure you're going to learn a lot of names and go insane quickly. Sorta one of those fields that you can use to be very deadly, but either you'll be targetted quickly to be stopped, or go insane. a little glass-cannony. Not a field for everyone, thats for sure. But if you want to make a big splash all at once, then its an OP field. If you have a buddy giving you counselling, you can probably survive a while using multiple names. And theres a lot you can do. Its very easy for a namer to potentially mass murder half the university with enough names. Just wind and fire and the mews is entirely engulfed in flames for example (to what extent would be up to the gms- thats not exactly something I had attempted as i didn't have the name of fire in lg33). And that's only a +2 insanity bonus. Remember that its a +1 per extra name you've learnt, and additional +1 per name used in the turn. so if you only used one name per turn and had learnt another 2 names you'd still only have a +2 which is a risk of cracking but a low one. For whoever got naming this turn, have fun, its a crazy field to go into. But if you try for master, may the odds be in your favour Actually, Hm you could become a master without having learnt additional names beforehand though right? just putting in that EP and sitting pretty Tbh i kinda both want to and dont want to see someone become a master namer. Because that would be one massacre of a turn when that happens o_O Ooh if you're in the Imre, are you able to tell us if theres anything interesting there? What items are available, if theres any weird contracts or anything? Also, its not super relevant currently, but when people start being expelled, i'd recommend not advertising that you were in the imre. If we expell people we suspect, remember they can only target people who've left the uni to go to the imre. Its not relevant now because no one's expelled, but just for future you's sake, keep that in mind- 951 replies

Bryn blinked. They had to be joking. They were joking right? this doesn't make sense. What? Did they not realize my report was a lot of pieces of other students work put together or something? "Congratulation on your elevation to E'lir. Surprisingly, you show great promise in this field. I do hope this elevation will inspire you to improve your work ethic though as that is quite...lacking. Do not disappoint me." Bryn blinked again. I mean. she had really enjoyed these classes but she hadn't put a tonne of effort into them. This was starting to sound like one of those teacher tricks where you give the misbehaving student a bigger responsibility and half the time they step up to the plate and suddenly become angels or something. She doubted her acting skills had actually fooled anyone into thinking she was actually a good student so this was likely the case. "Thank you so much for this recognition of talent. I can't wait to continue my studies!" she smiled sweetly. Yeah this master was going to soon be proven that maybe their time was better spent elevating someone more studious. who was she going to copy off now her work was expected to be a different standard! This was not good. Oh was this master going to be disappointed in her so very quickly. --- Well being in the first batch of elevations was a welcome surprise. A fun surprise, but also kinda scary being one of the few players who have actions now? Its good to see not as many people were brought on the horns. I suspect this was due to EP being cancelled out from DP though. I certainly lost some EP from that.- 951 replies

The books were literally right there. Of course they were. Now she felt stupid for asking help to find them but she needed to maintain the character, so with a sweet smile she thanked the poor man, "ah, how perfect. They were right here, at the front. A shame there was no clear signage that would have saved me having to bother someone like you. Regardless, your assistance is appreciated. You are free to go." she waved her hand, signalling him to move along. By now Seoras had gone and caused a commotion and scurried off. Straw was still nearby however, seemingly interested in the topic she was investigating as well. Grabbing an armful of books that seemed somewhat relevant she turned to straw, reverting back to her normal disposition, "well that worked, time to go tome diving and see if there's anything to be learnt from these things. To be honest I'll bet that I just end up finding a fascinating case study and just be reading up about random serial killers and not find anything actually useful for maybe helping to prepare us for dealing with the craziness that lives at this university. We passed some desks for studying at right?" ------------------------------------------------- I think it honestly depends on what class you are. For nobles, dropping out entirely can actually be a pretty viable strategy, as they end up being able to grab the grams when they appear and live on bodyguards and assassins rather than abilities. Although arguably it's better to get an ability or two first so you have more options. Though regardless of class, something that can be pretty valuable for gaining information is if someone does live there permanently, they see what items come and go, and they know how many people have protection, if assassins were bought, bodyguards, and can monitor the contracts, being able to know what cycle a contract appeared and if it was completed or not. The other option of going there once a term depends on what your overall goals are. If you're fighting to be master or anything you'll likely want to stay at the uni and get as much EP in as you can. Get your items and actions from gaining ranks. But that doens't work for everyone. People struggling for money who still really want to gain elevations and abilities may end up regularly visiting the imre in the hopes of getting contracts to fulfill for extra coin, or maybe gambling to get more money, plus trying out for the talent pipes. Ultimately it depends on your playstyle i think. Do you want abilities or coin? Arguably a vint who soley lives in the imre can be just as deadly as a namer who can throw two names. If not more, as they are likely more protected. An Edema who has optimized coin with pipes, and a level in arithmetics and maybe some alchemy to create items to sell can be very unsuspecting while actually quite well off being able to probably avoid any suspicion of being the one behind assassins. Its entirely possible. Where you choose to go doesn't matter when it comes to tuition reductions either- swap out the EP reduction for the contract creation reduction. If you're trying to decide what to do now, maybe if you get elevated or not may influence what you decide. Maybe you can go full uni until you get an ability then nope out and live in the imre. Or not. It honestly depends on a lot. But everything has its uses. Edit: Also while in the imre you can still get elevated even tho you cant submit ep, so if you've got a tonne of EP stored up in multiple schools you can still get elevated multiple times in a row, the chances are just going to be a little lower than those who've stuck around. Idk how helpful this was. I should sleep >>- 951 replies

Bryn looked to where Seoras was gesturing. "Ah! well spotted Shureece" Straightening her jacket a little, she briskly made her way to the man re-shelving the books, "Pardon me good sir, but I am in need of your service. Please" she smiled sweetly. The man glanced over, took in her posture, tone and fancy jacket (which she was holding closed in a way that hid as much of her drab, far more obviously commoner garb), and quickly finished pushing the book he was holding onto its designated shelf, "Ah, of course, these books can wait to be re-shelved, what may I help you with, miss...?" "Aria. Surely you must've heard of me, no?" She maintained her composure, trying not to chuckle as she watched the poor mans face shift into an expression of mild panic and confusion. "Ah of course you have, you must be wondering why i'm here in your library. See, my compatriots here and I," she gesture to Seoras and straw behind her, "are trying to find some books and the signage here is simply dreadful. Where may I find journals from renowned Physickers if I may ask? And history books on..." she looked blankly at Seoras, having already forgotten exactly what he had said he was looking into. "They can tell you what they need." The librarian told her where she could find the section she wanted and then turned to the others to ask them about what they were after. (I'm not claiming control over this npc so if you want to rp their speech in your own rp please do go ahead ) @Haelbarde @Straw ------------------------------------- Just noticed this- typically when voting, make sure their name is in red so its easier for the gms and players to glance over thread to find the votes. Tagging is helpful so people know when their being voted for, but Its easier to tell when its a vote if you go person @person (if knowing how to colour the name is a problem, its name (but color not colour) Though on that note I've also not voted yet this cycle. Where are the votes at atm... Hopefully we start getting useful information in that regard soon. Heh. This Seoras had a sense of humour. Good. "oh ah...aaall of the above...? ish? Just curious what sets people off, if there are toxins that do it, psychological things, fae messings, all the kinds, historical instances, anything. Just want to be prepared, to know what to look for if this happens again. That student cracking has me worried. It was too sudden to be natural. I would ask someone who works here for help but I was worried that someone would misinterpret my curiosity for intent." Apparently Seoras was trying to do research for an assignment. That sounded utterly dreadful. "Historical Arem numeracy notation? Yikes. Good luck on that report, sounds like a headache and a half. You'd think that there's something here that would help with that for sure... Hm. Maybe things are sorted by subject area?" The suggestion of pulling books at random could work but certainly didn't seem very efficient. Surely there had to be a map, or signage right? Or was there just an expectation that everyone who comes in here lives in library's and knows by instinct where to find the very book they want. But weren't librarians usually really particular about things being in order? So everything should be organised right? -------------------- Other thought I had, if anyone's gone to the imre this turn or future turns, put in contracts if possible. Gives people a chuckle half the time, but also having contracts available to pick up for the sake of tuition reductions can help out the poor folks. Even if its a 1 drab reward. every little bit counts- 951 replies

@Haelbarde @Straw Bryn pouted slightly when the student demonstrated that she wasn't as sneaky as she had thought. "Not exactly. I've not had access to anything like this before coming to the university, and I've tried to spend as little time in here as possible. Maybe we can work it out together then? I'm Seoras, by the way." He introduced himself Well drat. "Ah well, was worth a try. Names Bryn. Yeah, books aren't really my thing either. An unfortunately essential part of studying it seems." She paused as another student approached them. She recalled that this student had been in some of her classes but she hadn't interacted with them to know who it was name-wise. "Hello, I’m Straw Altiora. You can call me Straw, but please don’t try to shorten my name any further. It never sounds good. So, do either of you two know how to get around this place?” The student she'd approached, Seoras, replied first, "Well, that makes three of us. Want to join us in figuring it out ourselves?" Bryn laughed. of course all the lost students would find each other hoping for help. "Sorry to disappoint you mate, I'm afraid we don't know either. I just approached this fellow, uh, Sssaayrus" Nope. definitely not that "hoping to get help myself. Guess we go ourselves a book hunting party? What are you guys looking for? Myself I was going to look for books on insanity- recent events got me worried and curious."- 951 replies

The halls were full of chatter. A student had been taken to the Crockery. Already? Its only been a month! That can’t be right at all. Maybe if we were approaching end of year exams then sure, I could see how someone would crack under that pressure, but we’ve only just started! A concerned frown crossed her face. Surely it had to be something serious that had happened to this poor student for this to happen. What even could send someone insane so suddenly. Was this even a sudden thing? Some things developed over time didn’t they…? But he’d seemed fine earlier… It can’t be natural...could it? This demanded research. Excusing herself out of the current discussion, Bryn slung her bag over her shoulder and made her way to the archives. As she entered, her face moved into an expression that can only be described as “ugh”. Books were the bane of her existence. Just let her create things from scratch or learn from demonstrations, but reading was very much a chore to her. where do I even start… and how do I ask for help without sounding like i’m trying to make someone go insane…. She especially didn’t want to ask any official about what books to find and then get blamed for the insanity of other students because she seemed to take interest in it. There was another student nearby who was looking equally as overwhelmed by the sheer amount of books. She wasn’t too hopeful, but maybe they have a chance of helping her find a right section, and might not so easily misread her interest in this. Worth a shot. She approached the student, who hadn’t noticed her so far it seems. A cheeky smirk growing, she reached out and tapped his left shoulder, quickly stepping around to his right. “Hey, do you know anything about how books are sorted here or are you as clueless as I am?” @Haelbarde- 951 replies

Moment of silence for those the dice did not favor. That's unlucky on codas part, specially since its definitely too early for them to happen to have nahlrot to avoid those lashings. Least the others got lucky with avoiding severe punishments (though, there's still tuition increase I believe, which isn't fun. since bard and xino were both commoners, I hope you guys weren't cealdish because if so, that's rough. Manageable still, but still unfortunate) Sorry to see you crack so early too HH, Crossing my fingers for you that you get out of there alive someday Hm. The voting before was entirely votes for tuition and spread right? Do we have anything to look into... vote wise possibly not. Though I guess as lopen asked, if people had been talking to HH that would be useful info, but hm. It's very possible the skin dancers just hit a random noble. But then also as lopen said, there's the chance of them being at the horse and four and having that possibility for protection. Mind you its very possible that that wasn't considered, or it was and they chose to roll the dice regardless. Its definitely true that a sabotage on a commoner is a safer option, being at this point a guarantee, but then again, nobles are going to be the only ones who can afford to buy protection or assassins early game (Not this term, but next term for sure) whereas commoners and edema are just academic competition for the most part. Risk and reward. Cause the last thing a skindancer will want to do is wait until late game to try kill off a vint who has by that stage collected multiple grams and bloodless because their stupid rich (on that note, I highly recommend you nobles build up a supply of that stuff as soon as you can. Its worth it)- 951 replies

What straw said In my case its definitely to do with reducing that tuition, fun, and so my post:pm ratio means that I now have almost 30 pms to pm before I start having ratio issues (not that i've made good use of that at all, but feels like there's not enough cycle left for that to be worth it) Post 7 times in a cycle and you'll be able to pm everyone once without inflation!- 951 replies

Not intruding at all! welcome to the group chat xD And honestly now there's a fourth member in this general chat it might make it easier for use to be able to split into pairs for less of a 3-way rp that has potential for being difficult to juggle. Bryn had taken a peek into the Imre when she first arrived, curious to get to know the general area. As they had said, it wasn't exactly the safest of areas, but is anywhere truly safe? It was a pretty interesting place though, and she honestly looked forward to going back to spend more time there. She didn't exactly have spare change to spend at markets, but she had her hopes that maybe she could pick up some extra coin by other means there. "Oh the Eolian's definitely worth the visit! I'm hoping that they'll allow me to play a little there myself, nothing special- I'm not that good, but having a go performing there at least once would be incredible I think, even if it goes terribly wrong." They moved on to now be discussing Lasko's studies, and as they did, one of the students sitting in front of them swiveled around. Initially Bryn worried that they might be some sort ofavid academic telling them to be quiet so he could focus on the class. Much to her relief that was not the case! "Hey, I'm Lord Silberfarben. What class are we studying right now?" Bryn raised an eyebrow a cheeky smirk on her face "Lord eh? In that case i'm Madame Aria, first name Bryn, it's a pleasure. And if I may be quite frank, I got no clue whatsoever! If i'm honest i've not been paying any attention at all to what they're ramblin' on about, but I think this is meant to be some intro class that everyone has to do? Like one of those classes where they tell you about all the policies and rules, and the amount of similarity in your work compared to others it takes before you get in trouble for copying, how to understand the room numbers and scheduling, financial advice, all that. Though really coulda used the how to understand what room is where thing in a pamphlet before hand or something. (I may have gotten lost trying to find this room)" she said the last bit sheepishly. "What were you hoping it might be?" ------------------------------------------------------------ Ah right, voting, I should do that. In that case i'll put mine on DeTess, just sharing it around <3 Adding on to the whole living on the streets thing, broke people (edema's and commoners with less than 6 talents) have lower death chances compared to the nobles so something to keep in mind- 951 replies

"Hmm... Maybe later on I'll give it a go, but yeah, as you say, its fairly dangerous sounding. I feel like you have to be really ambitious and kinda crazy to pursue it. Its a tonne of power for someone to have, and I don't think i'm quite ready for that much responsibility" Bryn let out a nervous chuckle, her mind going through everything she knew about naming so far and how dangerous it could be. I gotta admit... it sure is tempting... the possibilities that would open to a naming student would be limitless. There would be so many things she could do with it. So many things. "I didn't come to university to learn that kind of power though, I came to learn how to use my money better and maybe pick up skills that can help me earn more in the future. It sure isn't interesting, and honestly quite headache inducing, but when you're a commoner without the biggest income, what can you do" she shrugged. Her eyes flickered across Athdara's garb briefly. "I'm sure you can appreciate having more money has its benefits. Maybe further down the road I may venture into another subject area that's much more interesting. What that might be I don't know. Kinda just going to see what sticks and what doesn't if i'm honest. I admire you going alchemy though. Gotta be pretty creative with a sharp mind for that! What got you interested in it, if I may ask?"- 951 replies

(Sorry for ninja'ing you there >> hope this helps. Good luck Elandera xD) Now that Bryns attention was already away from arranging her books, she also noticed the person sitting on the other side of Athy. As Athy extended a greeting to her other neighbour, Bryn leaned forward to give them a wave as well. "And I'm Bryn, hi!- 951 replies

It hadn't taken Bryn too long to find her classroom, well, it did, but she wasnt late so she wasn't going to mention the exact amount of time it took. She was on time, infact a minute or so early so therefore it didn't take as long as it could have. She settled down as a desk not too close to the front, not too close to the back and started pulling her things out of her bag and arranging them. "Hello," A voice startled her out of her focus on making things neat. She wasn't ocd or anything, just bored and finding something to do while waiting for class to start. She turned her head to see another student had taken the seat by her and was offering her hand. "I’m Athdara Tolmach. You can call me Athy. What’s your name? "Ah, hey! I'm Bryn, " she clasped the offered hand, oof thats a cold hand "Bryn Aria, nice to meet you Athy! Found your way here easily enough then? I admit I walked into a few wrong classes before finding the right one. Mind you I was a tad tempted to stay in the class of namers to see if i can learn the name of fire to stay warm but that would take forever and that master is scary so I figured I better not haha"- 951 replies

Bryn pulled her jacket tighter around her, cursing the cold weather. It was a nice jacket, with long sleeves getting wider at the wrists, its collar flipped to stand upright. It had a strip of dark blue embroidery running down the length of the front openings and across the hem. Its fastenings were carved wooden toggles that only went down to the waist, allowing the rest of the jacket to flow open for the rest of the length of it. Given her otherwise plain clothing, it was a very nice jacket, seeming to have originally been tailored for someone specifically. Not for her though. Begs the question as to where she got it of course. Her answer tends to change whenever asked. It was either a hand-me-down from a cousin, the prize from a bet gone in her favour, a forgotten order she took home with a discount from a part time job as a seamstress, a gift from a suitor, maybe all of the above! In any case, as nice a jacket as it was, it still wasn’t quite enough to stop the chill getting through. I’m gonna need to pick up something warmer if the weather continues like this… At least it wasn’t too bad inside. The walk to the classroom had her worried that her ink pots would freeze over though. They hadn’t, and her books had also survived the walk from her accommodation. That was good. She didn’t want to start off her studies having to re-purchase the already entirely too costly textbooks because of an old satchel letting all the moisture in. And she didn’t know any classmates well enough yet to feel comfortable asking to share books at all yet. Speaking of, she needed to choose what classes she really wanted to commit to, all things considered...Maybe she could just focus on all and see what sticks? She really oughta decide on a long term goal though. Studying was expensive so she really shouldn’t spend more time than needed here… especially if there’s threats around. Perhaps she was better off staying as an assistant to the tailor. At least the people bothering her there were probably not fae. But that's not an option anymore so whelp, here we go, off to classes to get my mind bored out of existence. With a sigh, she adjusted the strap of her bag across her shoulder and trudged down the corridors to find the room she was meant to be having a class in shortly.- 951 replies

Well, this is exciting. So many people too! Re: the recommendation that nobles shouldn't claim if their vint or otherwise. I agree. I feel like that's something that possibly only should be revealed if relevant, especially for the vints, because that's a recipe for a witchhunt. Either they get sabotaged/killed early on for being a higher threat by the skindancers, or they end up coming under heavy fire whenever there's assassins used or perhaps grams being bought or something. Now knowing who can afford those things can be useful for both sides, because if that's a villager buying things, you can bet the skindancers are going to jump on that asap (if they can, remembering that vints will probably have their pockets full of all purchasable protection items from their spare change). If it's obviously a skindancer doing those actions then knowing who could've afforded it is very useful, but then they're a skindancer, and will probably have lied about their class anyways. So in my opinion, this is information that could be very relevant later on, but for now may be more dangerous for those claiming than not, especially while people are likely unprotected at this point of time. I don't think it matters at all for the commoners though, I can't see a reason why it would be risky or otherwise for them to claim. That being said, I don't intend to go claiming right off the bat Not unless specifically requested with reasons. Also, edemas, good luck, I feel for you. I hope you all succeed in gaining talent pipes. As someone who has previously been Edema with pipes, it makes a massive difference. You'll be fine for a couple of cycles, but I'd recommend doing our best to ensure getting those. There's the practicing now which is cool. Though kinda need to do that twice before it makes a difference, and who knows if waiting 2 terms for a +1 is worth it, depends on your base stat i guess. Regardless, you got this! On that note, I've now been in every band of class! woo!- 951 replies

A young woman stood at the gates, gazing up at the University before her, ambition in her blue grey eyes. Flicking the long copper hair that had fallen in front of her eyes behind her head, she made her way inside, a spring in her step as she walked towards the beginning of her future. ---- Bryn Aria has enrolled- 951 replies
