  1. Yeah, I dunno... I have my post ready, but I'm thinking she could post any time now. I guess I'll just post this one, since I already wrote it, and then we can wait for her
  2. Should I wait for Lark to post before posting mine?
  3. I'm really interested in how she'll react to seeing Kaladin again. I thought about her either crushing on Kaladin as was discussed already (I mean, he's technically lighteyed now, and also veeery muscular ) or despising him. I'm kind of leaning more towards her despising him, to be honest. It would be easy to dislike someone for escaping a bad situation and leaving you stuck there, even if they had no way to help you. And- correct me if it's already been stated in the books somewhere- but she might blame Kaladin and/or Lirin for Rillir's death. Plus, the spheres Lirin took would have belonged to her. All in all, though, I agree with 1empyrean. I feel like we don't know enough about Laral and her personality to do any more than speculate.
  4. This is a really valid point. Shallan can't really open up to Adolin because, as you said, she has everything to lose. This is part of the reason they aren't on the same level emotionally- she feels she has to be cautious around him, she holds back. However, when I said Kaladin and Shallan understand each other, I meant more than just that they know each other's past. The empathy that they feel for each other is not just due to story telling. They understand each other. Chapter 71: (sorry for long quote) This is what I meant when I reference the chasm ordeal before. I can't explain it better than Sanderson displays it in this passage XD Shallan and Kal, they understand each other. Sorry, I'm not so good with words so I keep saying the same thing over and over. But it's true. And I don't know how to express it other than italics. It's not just understanding, it's something deeper. It's.... understanding. (Haha) Yes, if Shallan had to impress Kaladin instead of Adolin, the two likely wouldn't have made the same connection. However, even if she wasn't playing a role around Adolin, I'm not sure Adolin could fully comprehend the feelings she describes in the above passage. Adolin has lived a priveleged life; he hasn't been broken the way Kaladin and Shallan have. He could sympathize, but I doubt he could empathize. Again, I'm really bad at explaining with words, heh. Also, this is quite the digression from the topic. Sorry!!l
  5. Kaladin may not appreciate her art, but he understands her in a way Adolin can't, as manifested by their heart to heart in the chasms when Shallan totally proves Kal wrong and calls him out on his crap. Also, there's this passage from when they're on their way to the menagerie in chapter 55... This is another instance, besides the chasm ordeal, of Kal understanding something about her that Adolin seems to miss. Granted, it could be that Adolin chose to ignore Shallan's pain/worry, but I find that unlikely. It seems to me like sharing an emotional connection like Shallan and Kaladin do is more important than sharing similar hobbies. I'm still not completely convinced that Shallan and Kaladin would be a perfectly matched couple, but I'm fairly certain their relationship would be deeper and more solid than Shallan and Adolin's. (The scene that always sticks out to me is when Adolin tells Shallan he'll protect her and she panics. Adolin just doesn't get her, I think.) Anyway, about Laral and Adolin... I really don't think there's much of a basis for a relationship there. Laral would likely be focused on being accepted into high lighteyes society, thus resulting in her conforming to how other court ladies act. And Adolin is way too used to normal court ladies. The reason he's attracted to Shallan is because she's different from all the women he's dated before. Laral, I think, would be unable to keep his attention.
  6. It's a play on Ironeyes, because kherstor has some metal teeth (his metalminds). It's something Finner called him when they first met up in Callingfale
  7. Yeah I'm okay with it! Finner is very skeptical about it, but he's not going to contradict Kherstor about it. Especially not when Exisa is going to call them by their code names haha I didn't spot anything out of character for Finner. That post is pretty awesome.
  8. Okay, my post is up... Would have been up earlier, but a massive storm knocked out our wifi, heh. I'm not sure if AoL Scadrial knows the term 'Inquisitor'. If anybody knows anything definitive about that, let me know. I can change it if need be.
  9. FINNER RASA edit: fixed spacing
  10. Maybe a stray bandit attacked Resool and Bella right as they approached the inn?
  11. "What is it, Wit?" asked Kaladin, exchanging a look with Shallan.
  12. just double checking, who's where? Kherstor and Finner are at the inn already, are Resool and Bella there? Who's the newcomer Turos mentioned? (is it finner...?) I want to make sure I don't make any dumb assumptions before replying
  13. OOh okay! Thanks! (and now I'm ridiculously happy owo)
  14. I was reading the Coppermind page for Slivers and it says that "Kelsier guided Preservation after Leras' death" with the source being this WoB: (sorry I don't know how to properly cite it) How is Kel a Sliver? I didn't think he ever held Preservation... I'm confused.
  15. My cousin made me read Way of Kings, about two years ago I believe. I did enjoy the first part, but I have to admit, she had to really force me to get through the middle. the Dalinar chapters KILLED me with boredom. Happy ending though- by the end of the book, I was hooked. (Mostly on Kaladin, because he's an amazing character who I relate with in a big way.) And then my cousin told me about the Cosmere and I just HAD to read the other books.
  16. I feel like my posts keep getting longer and longer... is that a bad thing? Is there such thing as too long? (sorry.. again, I'm not a very experienced rper)
  17. “Showoff,” Finner muttered as Kherstor leapt from the rooftop, knocking out a bandit. The thug had been about to grab a girl standing by the horses. The frightened young thing was clutching vials and looking very much like she just wanted to run and hide. A pretty, short woman who had been standing near the girl leapt into action. Finn’s mouth dropped open as he watched her run at a bandit and then, after a split second of blurriness, step over his fallen body. Rust and Ruin, he thought. A Slider. Incredible. A yell broke through the sounds of fighting. Finner looked back to the girl and saw a middle-aged fellow take out another bandit that had attacked her. Interesting, he thought, noting that the battle seemed to center around this girl. The older man, obviously sensing this as well, set the girl on his horse and climbed on behind her. He called out something in Terris, then spurred the horse and took off down a side street. None of the bandits had seen Finner yet- he prided himself on his ability to go unnoticed- but, as he saw a couple kerchiefed men break away from the fighting to chase the horse, Finn knew that now was the time to reveal himself. Sheathing his dagger, he ran out from his hiding place and weaved through a couple fights- passing the Slider woman- to get to where the horse and its pursuers had disappeared. He sprinted down the street after them, using tin to track their footsteps. Soon, they were in sight; even though the horse was long gone, the bandits still ran forward. “Hey!” Finner shouted. “Hey, stupid face!” Amazingly, one of the bandits- he sported a faded blue kerchief- stopped running abruptly and turned around. The other kept going, though he did glance back. Finner quickly drew his dart gun as he continued dashing towards Blue Guy. Although the poor fellow tried to draw his own gun, Finn raised his weapon to his mouth and blew. Blue Guy fell to the ground unconscious, a small dart sticking out of his neck. Without stopping, the twinborn chased after the remaining bandit, catching up to him when the lawbreaker- apparently realizing that he didn’t actually know where the horse and its riders had gone- paused at a pair of intersecting streets. Fwoop. Another dart. The second bandit dropped like a rock. Finner stood over the unconscious man, clutching his side and breathing hard. Harmony! he cursed mentally. I haven’t ran this much in a long while. He filled his metalmind a little to try and calm his body down, simultaneously burning tin to keep his mind clear. Glancing around, he noticed that he was near the Iron Inn. Thank the Survivor. I'm done with running. He began to walk, then hesitated, glancing at the unconscious bandit. He shrugged after a second. He'll be asleep for a while yet. I'll just send someone to fetch him afore he wakes. Finn walked on. He was relieved when the inn soon came into sight.
  18. I'll post before tonight probably. Sorry for not posting a lot lately :/
  19. Even if it wasn't totally formal, I'm pretty sure marriage between Laral and Kal was almost definite. Before Wistiow died, anyway. But yeah, I agree. Whether or not they're fit for each other, Kaladin's moved on. He's a completely different person now, and likely as not, Laral is too.
  20. here ya go! edit: fixed the link
  21. Dude I just thought of another... in BBC Merlin, the relationship between Arthur and Merlin is kind of like the relationship between Kaladin and Adolin. (not exactly but still oh my gosh)
  22. I feel like Laral was kind of a butt towards Kal though. Kaladin deserves somebody who understands him better, and who can cheer him up when he gets depressed (a la Tien). Laral never was able to bring Kal out of a mood, that we saw.
  23. Yeah that's totally fine!! Jinks is kind of a side character, anybody can control him really.
  24. Sheriff, scoffed Finner inwardly as they left the building. That blasted man was no sheriff. He was hardly better than the criminals on the bounty list. Consorting with lawless men, arresting the innocent (well, relatively innocent). Constantly drunk. If he would even so much as try to do his job properly, the people of Callingfale might not be as worse off. But men like him were in the business of ruining lives, not bettering them. Of all people, Finner should know. "Alright, now that that's out of the way," Kherstor grumbled, interrupting Finn's internal rant. "Can you take me to a local inn? I don't trust myself to open this bag unless we have absolute privacy. Also, it's getting late- we should probably call it a day soon, when we can." Finner took off his hat and ran a hand through his tangled, sandy hair. "Sure thing. Iron Inn'll probably do. The name suits you just f-" Screams. Shots. His groggy mind instinctively began tapping his metalmind, and adrenaline rushed through his body. "You hear that?" he said quietly. This was no mugging; Finner could hear legitimate fighting. Something big was happening- something dangerous. There would be information to gather, civilians to rescue. Without another word, he dashed quickly towards the source of the noise. Pewter might not agree with his stomach, but when he wasn't filling his metalmind, Finner could be just as nimble as a Thug. He thought he heard Kherstor pounding along behind him, but Finn was so focused on his destination, he didn't bother to double check. The commotion was close; they reached the area in practically no time. Finner abruptly stopped sprinting and leaned against a building just out of range of the fighting, catching his breath. Peeking around the corner, he spied at least a dozen bandits wreaking havoc. A few of them had guns, including a man with twin Sterrions- though as Finner took a closer look, he realized this man was fighting against the bandits. That was good. But Rust and Ruin, he swore mentally. Why guns? Couldn't they have the courtesy to use quieter killing machines? Finn stopped burning tin and pulled out his glass dagger, though he wasn't sure what good he could do against this many. He was in way over his head. He looked behind him, seeking out Kherstor.
