  1. Adolin isn't broken enough to be a surgebinder. His life has been too normal. He's a bit spoiled and through his father has taught him to work hard he has also given him a lot. He is golden son of the Kholin house. Now he could have something happen that breaks his soul and thus makes surgebinding possible, but for now, I don't think so.

I don't think bonding a spren actually has anything to due with having a broken spirit or difficult past. After all, it isn't like Jasnah hasn't had a difficult past or a broken spirit. The bonding of spren seems to be more based on a person's disposition. Kaladin is honorable, Jasnah seeks knowledge, and Shallan lies. Each of the spren they've bonded are reflective of this.

  2. To clarify on my thoughts: Adonalsium is not separate from the Shards, in my mind. The Shards are Splinters of Adonalsium. To go into the (debunked?) analogy of Shardic Lens theory, imagine Adonalsium as a bright white light, and each Shard as a color of the rainbow you get by putting that light through a prism. I'm not saying Syl has pure-Adonalsium as a part of her, I'm saying she's of Honor, and Honor is in turn of Adonalsium.

So there being spren on Roshar pre-Shattering is absolutely fine. Adonalsium just did the same thing H+C did, and left some of his power behind (which he likely had no choice about, given how Odium can't leave Roshar without leaving some of his power behind), which formed spren due to the interactions between Investiture and the planet. H+C in turn left some of their power behind, causing new spren to form from their power. Nothing really indicates they changed the spren already there (though I've got suspicions on the Stormfather), they just in turn added to the background Investiture of the planet left behind by Adonalsium (or which came to exist without it?).

I imagine Cucicesh, the weird face-changing spren, is an Adonalsiumspren, for example. No H+C+O in it.

We don't know for sure, but that's what I'm thinking is likely for the moment.

With this in mind, can we think of Syl as a form of evolved spren created due to Honor's influence on Roshar?

  3. Lets take both of the WoBs into account. The only person who could burn a hemalurgic spike is the person whose power is in it. So you would have to have been the victim in the making of that spike. Thus, if you burn your own hemalurgic spike you would splice your sDNA with your sDNA?

  4. I have heard that there is a similar sword in another of his books, and what with Hoid being able to travel between worlds, I thought the sword given to Szeth might be the same. Also, I ask for more books every birthday and Christmas, so I am working on that one. And judging from what I have read poking around, I think I will enjoy this sight.

  5. As you can probably guess, I am a huge fan of The Stormlight Archives. The Way of Kings is the first original work by Brandon Sanderson that I read, although I got started through The Wheel of Time novels. Really, I have only read a few of his books, the two Stormlight novels as well as the four Mistborn books. However, this is only because I am limited by monetary resources. And time. As a college student, those are two things I have difficulty coming by. Also, this is my first time on an online community like this, so any advice will help. Thanks!
