in fact, if you are known to the government then Rainmaker would probably send you against Phoenix once he reincarnates.
-
given how his powers seem really passive, id probably decide against including kinetic energy. That opens up a whole other can of physics worms. but I like the idea that his increased speed/agility/reaction time is empowered by the more energy he has. Essentially, the way Corvallis runs is that there is a circle of powerful Epics, all female, called the Queens of Corvallis. They are lead by Rainmaker, a weather Epic. Each Queen has a specific function and role in the city, some more useful than others. Rainmaker: powerful weather Epic, keeps the city in nice weather unless she is angry (like now), a light drizzle and overcast skies are now in place over the city. Euphoria: she keeps the humans of the city drugged with happiness. Mostly they chose to move here, knowing about her, choosing happiness and safety over freedom, danger and misery. She was kidnapped and forced to withdraw her happiness, so all the humans are suddenly angry at their servitude. Chase: a speed epic who can 'tag' humans (not epics) and thus keep a track of everyone in the city. Someone dies, she'll know it. Bubbles: creates forcefields. Maintains a huge bubble with a radius of 9 miles around Corvallis, enveloping the city, all the fields around it, and cutting Albany and several towns in half. All this area id 'Corvallis' now. Cornucopia: can grow any object she plants. Supplies the city with everything it could need with field of objects all around the city. Blossum: shoots lightning and breaths frost, and flies. Head of PR. Buttercup: super strong and tough, and flies. Head of security. They treat Epics basically like nobles. When an Epic moves in, they assess his useful its power is to the government and then give them a house, a job and a number of servants based on this.

fair enough, that breaks physics but as you said, Epic powers break physics as a rule. Does he reincarnate from his ashes? what happens if the ashes are scattered? actually, kinetic energy isn't heat- if anything it is the other way around. Heat is caused by the movement of atoms, which vibrate the more energy they have. Kinetic energy- movement- causes heat when it causes friction, but it is not heat in and of itself. Absorbing all heat from something will not stop its movement, because it will still have kinetic energy as a whole even though the object is at absolute zero. Maybe the energy can heal him the more he absorbs? like Disruption, the more energy he drains the faster he heals.

I also like this character. Heatsink is a cool name. Intersting power. Makes him much less powerful than converters or projectors like Obliteration. But that is fine, limitations make for interesting characters. Question: what happens to the energy? Does it disappear completely or does he become super hot when he absorbs heat?

Bad guys are my favorite.

I have too much joy in killing bad guys (that are my own characters) to ever make good characters

Why not do what comic book writers and Brandon does and ignore the deeper science? her power is she transfers momentum around. There is momentum here, now its here, and that guy now can't move. Wait, how did that not kill him? Magic. It just didn't, her powers figured it out, not even she has a clue. And given the propensity for handwaving in all fiction i think we could let that slide

that's hilarious XD although at first I thought she had come from an actual place in Norway called Arendelle, where a crazy epic had forced people into being characters from Frozen.

I am of the opinion that Calamity was an astronaut working for NASA who was conducting an experiment in outer space for them. An experiment involving alternate dimensions. They open a portal, the astronaut gets blasted by cosmic rays or something, and he turns into Calamity, sprouting wings and glowing red. NASA freaks out and is unable to contact him, and cannot even see him anymore, the glow is too much (I think David was only able to make out wings because of the interaction between them.) Then Calamity wakes up, or comes out of hibernation, or something, and starts gifting people powers. Or perhaps the portal itself is the glowing red star, and Calamity floats in front of it on his wings, bathed in light and directing its power to Epicify people.

It also just seems strange to me. I can deal with Calamity becoming an expletive, and maybe sparks too, in Newcago, but slontze? where on earth did that come from? And unnecessary. Like why replace all our words, even the 'soft' curse words like damnation, or hell? I agree, it is strange. I mean, Prof seems to be in his forties, and the other adult Reckoners must be in their 30s (I think Cody was in his 20s though, he was youngish wasn't he?) so they've lived most of their lives pre-calamity.

oh yeah, i'd forgotten my chemistry classes, darn.

that's a good point. well you could just define her ability as stopping single "objects". So a person is one object, and maybe a lightning bolt isn't an "object" in the sense of her powers. If her powers don't work at the sub-atomic level, but they work at the atomic level, they would stop atoms (electrons in those atoms included) but not stop electrons, because they are too small and not connected in "atoms".
-
yeah, I think she should be able to. Her power is basically transferring momentum from one place to another, yeah? or stopping it entirely?

Seriously cannot wait for everything to settle down so Iconoclast can get some sleep. Got some good stuff planned, might make you feel sorry for him
-
yeah. So is he killable for the two minutes after he last teleported.

and now Internet is an Epic in my mind. That would be an interesting Epic actually.... Name: Internet/Interweb/Webnet Primary Power: Can establish connections with anyone he/she has not had physical contact with. Some personal item from the target is necessary to establish the connection- a photo, a piece of clothing, a lock of hair, etc. The connection can also be formed through someone Internet is already connected with- the first connector just needs to focus on someone they know personally and Internet can form a connection with the second person. Physical contact with Internet severs the connection, and once severed it cannot be remade. Internet can communicate telepathically with anyone they are connected with, and can upload and download large amounts of information from every connected person, against their will if desired, although this is more difficult. This information is never emotional- it is purely fact-based. The information is also memory-based- only memories or information gained from memories can be accessed. For example, say I read that shark's have no bone, only cartilage. Internet could connect with me and download that information- either the memory of me reading that, or the fact itself, but not my thoughts or opinions of that, nor my thoughts at the time. Purely objective facts, rendered free of emotion. Secondary Power: Enhanced mental capacity: Internet has very strong processing power, in order to sort, catalogue, comprehend and use all the information that he/she has downloaded. This power does not extend to anyone connected with Internet unless he/she wills it to. Passive: Thick Skin: Internet has invulnerable skin. It can bend, but will not bruise or break. Unlike Steelheart, this does not extend past skin level. So a strong hit will not damage his/her skin at all, but might break bones or cause internal damage. I figure Intenet would be a background, hidden Epic, in the service of a more powerful one. He/she would stay hidden at HQ, forming connections and gathering more and more information that he/she can use to help their master. Has an obsessive drive to gather information, for its own sake, whether or not it is useful or relevant.

Is Collaborate correct in saying that he has no limit on his power, or is he simply not aware of it yet?
-
well we do have mention of healing Epics in Steelheart, and I don't think that a regeneration/gifting combo would be very common. So its entirely possible.

Depends on the power- Epics with regen cannot gift each other, but if an Epic has a specific power that allows them to speed up the healing process in others, then there isn't any reason they couldn't.

I think realistically you'd need weeks or months to heal properly from a stab wound like that. Maybe she could run into a helpful healing Epic?

You know, it occurs to me that Converter and Phoenix would make a powerful pair. He heats himself up, and she draws the heat into herself. He is an endless energy source.
