I tried a version of that, where they provide you a list and you sort of have to switch between one big 1000 page book and another as you get to them. it was kind of annoying, and I found it harder than just reading the split versions, possibly because it increased the gaps between consecutive character chapters, so it felt even slower than the publication order read. @rmmateus you get Jaime's PoV starting in book 3 and it goes a long way towards making him likable.

I honestly think 4 is underrated. it isn't perfect, but I thought it was pretty fun, honestly. 5 is kind of a drag though

I rarely ever had enough arrows lying around to make the updraft + slow-mo attack worth the effort. not until recently anyway. but I went in yesterday and beat Ganon, so I am probably putting the game aside for a while. fun fact: the castle is downright easy when you go in with 65 ancient arrows and maxed out ancient armor. I one-shotted a Lynel, though I guess when you obliterate them with an ancient arrow, you don't get any loot from them.

Finished Unhewn Throne a while back and decided to do a reread of The Name of the Wind. may follow that up with Wise Man's Fear, but not sure yet. debating doing a reread of Stormlight prior to November as well

ahh, that would make a bit more sense, in context with the rest of those questions

Mistborn era 1 has at least 2 or 3 examples of this. even excluding Kandra, Koloss, and inquisitors, both Vin and Spook get spikes at some point, off the top of my head. there are probably a couple others that we see too, but I'd have to dig more to find those.

Cosmere Magic: The Gathering Cards
Dunkum replied to The Doctor's Mistborn's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I rather like those. I know I've seen similar efforts before, though it has been a while. it is always interesting to see the different ways peopel think various abilities should be expressed. some personal opinions: - I'd make Sazed's abilities contigent upon having an artifact in play. - I'd make Kelsier and Sazed into flip cards, rather than searching for a separate card when they die. - I'd change Kaladin's damage prevention ability to redirect the damage to himself instead, and probably try to rework that buff he gets when creatures die. as it stands, it is not likely to be very useful, since it will mostly trigger after combat damage has already been dealt. not sure how I would change it though... - Elend's single mana +2/+2 ability is way too powerful, especially since you can use it multiple times per turn. - I feel like Nightblood should not grant indestructible. Think I'd do deathtouch, first strike, trample (the +5/+5 is fine). also, not sure if you need that return to battlefield part...since equipment stays in play when the equipped creature dies. -
Slow Regard is up there among the strangest books I've read, and while I liked it, it is definitely just Aurie wandering around by herself. It is pretty much a week in her life, and if spending a week in Aurie's head doesn't sound interesting to you, then it is probably better to just skip it. at least try to get it from a library, no point spending money if you may not like it. While Slow Regard for Silent Things is near the top of my list, it is probably beaten by Infinite Jest, and its 100 pages of end notes some of which themselves have further footnotes. rounding out the top 3 is probably Slaughterhouse Five.

I'm finally at the point where I can handle them on the fly, so long as I start out with a decent amount of health and at least a couple of the champion abilities charged up. but the first few I managed to beat I went in there packed to the gills with tough and hearty foods

Books, Movies and Show You Did Not Like
Dunkum replied to Draginon's topic in Entertainment Discussion
did you watch season 2 at all? far better than any of the other shows has been for at least 2 years. Snart is missed, but they also dropped vandal savage and replaced him with Merlyn, Darkh, and Thawne all of whom work even better as a team than they did in their initial turns as individiual villains. they also dropped the hawkpeople entirely and replaced them with better characters (admittedly a low bar) for the other shows: Supergirl has never been perfect, but I completely disagree with you on the character herself. I think they got her portrayal down perfect, and the cheesiness is more or less right. I also liked Mon El, though not as a love interest, so sort of half agree on that at least. Arrow turned around some this seasons, but I wouldn't miss it too much if they shut it down. that said, flash season 3 is down near the bottom of things they have produced, and I am not wholly convinced they'll do any better next season -

They were pretty good. my biggest issues with them were that Sanderson has a different writing style, and it was sort of noticeable and a bit jarring. Also, at least in book 12, he did not do a very good job of writing Mat. the later books were a bit better about this, but book 12 Mat, for his brief appearance, is pretty bad. -
I'd have to look back into it to see what exactly is going on with Egwene in that book. I remember the arc of the series, but mostly don't recall what happens in which book. As I recall, I generally like Mat throughout the series, Perrin at the beginning and end of the series, but less so in the middle, Egwene towards the end after her training with the wise ones, and Elayne for a brief bit towards the end before she drops back to being insuffereable. It stands to reason that book 10 would be a good point for Mat and Egwene, and maybe one of the better points for Elayne before she drops back down, but i'd honestly have to check

huh. I can understand not liking the later books, but I honestly thought the third was one of the best in the series. I actually don't like the first 2 very much. -
Can't speak to supernatural, but i'm about the only person I know who defends Crossroads of Twilight, and it has a lot to do with how much Mat is in that book. Republic of Thieves didn't bother me over much, probably for similar reasons.

I wouldn't even go so far as to say good. Maybe the later books, but early on it is, at best, ok. -
I actually got the last 2 a couple days ago, though I did give in and look them up. it is frustrating, because for one of them, the last bit of exploration I did before I gave up, if I had turned east instead of west at one point, I would have walked right into it essentially. i've been trying to power up my armor since then, but I don't feel like tryign to hunt down star fragments, so I actually am probably going to prep some food and make a run for Gannon next time I play.

Specifically i put it at 2^20 or a bit higher than a million. orders of magnitude higher if there is a difference between an alloy of 2 god metals vs the god metal you'd get if you managed to hold/fuse both of those shards together (e.g. if there is a difference between an atium/lerasium alloy and harmonium created from the fused shard).

What do you mean? like if you awaken the same object numerous times with the same command will it eventually cost less breath or otherwise get easier somehow?
-
Well, down to just 2 shrines remaining, and very close to just giving in and looking them up.

in my case, it would be a pain to try to take the pics and get them onto my computer. also, my library, such as it is, is a bit smaller than the ones posted so far, though it is overflowing the space available for it enough that I have to double layer books in places, and I have a few st sitting on my dresser that I need to find space for.

Books, Movies and Show You Did Not Like
Dunkum replied to Draginon's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I'll defend the show to the death, but i have to admit that the opening song does nothing for me. Can't speak to the movies, as I haven't seen most of them, but honestly, that might be the single most overrated book series in existence. It was alright, and notciceably improved as it went on, but I cannot, for the life of me, understand the devotion of its fanbase TFA was alright, but the argument that it was essentially a shot for shot rehash of A New Hope is dead on. I liked it well enough, even so, but I'm hoping they get a bit mroe creative for the next one. I still like WoT overall, but there were definitely some things going on that don't work for me. the gender stuff is high on the list, especially since he did do some interesting things with it, minimally (like the differences between how you would accomplish certain tasks using saidar vs saidin). The biggest one for me that hasn't already been mentioned: Redwall. probably because I didn't read them as a kid, when I tried reading one as an adult, I found them to be just downright boring -
Fair enough. and I guess we don't get much focus on most of those areas. possibly not enough to really answer the questions
-
Don't we see both of those situations in Elantris? It seems like Duladel and/or Teod account for the first one, and Fjordell very much for the second.
-
I could see that. working my way through the unhewn throne trilogy now, and Pyrre is definitely not the first person I would pick to focus on...though I imagine that it could be interesting to get a bit more insight into the worship of ananshael.

Could you give breath to an existing lifeless with the standard "My life to yours..." command? if so, what sort of effects would this have? What if it was specifically a Returned's divine breath?
