  1. No joke, here I was just thinking (and getting) a fun romp through Depression-era Scadrial with an interesting, if somewhat brutal, villain and then WHAM! Right in in the feels, as the youth say today... and while I was processing that, BLAM! I had rear-ended the car in front of me. Moral of the story: don't read while driving
  2. In all the excitement of Shadows of Self, I bet y'all forgot that Stormlight 3 is still at 21%. And now you're all conflicted... because you want Bands of Mourning very much, but... Stormlight 3! Do you even know who you are anymore? I know who I am... a jerk!
  3. And there's a constable Ahlstrom!
  4. Neat! There was speculation that part of it was missing. I enjoy a good low-fat cottage cheese. I don't know why people add pineapple to it, they're weird... Also, it goes great mixed with beef ravioli!
  5. Excellent point. Since both of these answers came from the same Midnight Release (if I'm not mistaken), I think this is definitive evidence that it is not Autonomy.
  6. Shadows of Self Spoiler: Do not Open unless you've read the ENTIRE book!
  7. Could the new metal be Harmonium? It seems like Ruin could not just "sense" atium, which was his own body... could we get the same with Harmony and Harmonium? Hopefully not... I really like the idea that a Shard is invading.
  8. Augh, haven't been made to feel these sorts of feelings from a book in a long time... What I liked also about this book is that Harmony's involvement is justified beyond, "hey, let's do this for some fan-service!" There is some crazy stuff going on that potentially involves another Shard... or some hitherto unknown Cosmere denizen of doom! In either event, I'm afraid this is point more towards the main conflict of Mistborn Trilogy Two (the Modern Era one), which is also pretty neat, since I was wondering how you could go beyond the main conflict in the Era 1 trilogy. Also, it seems that the spikes in the perverted subterranean humans were also the same. On page 328: And for comparison, from the epilogue:
  9. I had some pancakes at a restaurant this morning. They were merely ok.
  10. Looks like I probably misread that... So don't skip rent on that account and I'll go get fitted for a pair of glasses
  11. Now is this in the appendices, the...final...scene, or in the novel proper ?
  12. Time travel is always involved...we just usually travel forwards in time
  13. I thought she would be trapped within the pages, doomed forever to relive that one book again and again...never the prequels, certainly not the sequel... just Shadows of Self again and again for an arbitrarily large and indeterminate amount of time...there...in the Twilight Zone... do-do-do-do-do-do-do-.....
  14. So nothing about , huh? It's all about Shadows of Self and Elantris maps... pfft, whatever
  15. Does such a thing exist? You must reveal to me its secrets, forthwith! In America, jam is fruit that's been mashed up and boiled like hell's donkeys with a bunch of sugar. Jelly is made with gelliton or however you pronounce that. Preserves are awesome. Chutney is good, particularly lime chutney
  16. Depends on where you live. When my family moved to Ohio, I only heard of one bomb threat (which happened while I was at school in seventh grade). Everyone else was freaking out, but as I've established, I was used to them and thinking, "about time!"Turns out that's a little abnormal...I should not have expected bomb threats to be the norm in public education.
  17. Was it volcano insurance?
  18. From the Wikipedia, it seems to have originated on a forum called "Something Awful"
  19. I believe Slender man also originated on creepy pasta.
  20. Oh, not all bomb threats are fake. One of the several (at least twice a year, so ten total) bomb threats while attending my elementary school actually found a bomb after we evacuated. We were sent home after that and I had to leave my dinosaur notebooks at school, which upset me greatly. See? Priorities! Dinosaur notebooks are much more important than the threat of an explosive death As far as car driving, I may be more confident nowadays, but I still get somewhat nervous while driving. So long as you channel that worry correctly, it will help you avoid stupid mistakes.
  21. Yep.Just remember: Valar Morghoulus and just carry on. Trying to think of hopeless situations where you are going to lose is not only pointless and morbid; it's counter productive and distracts from what is really important. I mean, statistically speaking, you should be worried more about car accidents or heart disease...and maybe vampires.
  22. You have a decent goatee for a pony.
  23. I would say it's "moderately difficult" to find at a book store...you probably won't stumble upon it, but could probably have it ordered. I found mine at a Half-Price Books. At the same time, it should be fairly easy to find at a library.
  24. I remember saying the same thing when I went to High School eons ago. I would not worry about it, bomb threats very, very, rarely have the intent of actually killing anyone. That's why they warn the school ahead of time (assuming there's an actual bomb, which there rarely is).
  25. Have you read The Amen Corner by James Baldwin? It centers around an overbearing minister mother. Not the best pay, but that's mostly because Baldwin was pretty much writing a short story in play firm.
