    See, when the US was founded, the area now known was Washington state was basically wilderness that no European had even seen yet. Washington DC (the nation's capitol) is on the opposite side of the country from the state. They are literally over 2,000 miles apart.

    Oh, you cityborn kids and your fancy French teachers. When I was in high school, all we got was Spanish, and we had to like it. (Seriously, I would have much rather taken Italian. Still bitter about the small town education.)

    Guys, could you please be dears and lay off of the Wayne DIsapproval thread? I know that you mean to be amusing, but it's not coming across that way. There's plenty of room on the Shard for everyone to get along and be respectful of each other.

    I'm kind of exploding my diet this weekend, thanks to the madness of Naka-Kon. And by "exploding" I mean "instead of the 500-calorie deficit I've been running, I'm actually hitting more 300-400". So...it's really not that bad.

    It's Saturday and we are officially into the peak of the madness. 1) Bruce will be fine. He might be unhappy, but that'll just make him all the happier to see you when you get back. Dogs are resilient, and he'll get over it. 2) Make a list of things you need; this will make it less likely that you will forget something. (I always forget something. It's not the end of the world.) 3) Again, lists! And you know that you can call or text me if you need help/advice/moral support. 4) You will get an apartment! Even if it's a crappy apartment, you won't be signing longer than a 1-year lease. If the apartment is crappy, you only have to put up with it for a year. It'll be a young adult rite of passage for you. 5) You HAVE the job. 6) Then you get to hang with Kobold King for longer! Seriously, we have Sharders all over the place. No matter where you break down, we will be able to find SOMEONE to help you. But barring that, this is what AAA is for. 7) Your mom is a crazy person. Louisiana will be awesome.

    Genderneutral, even third gender are possibilities, too. Or even something off the scale completely. The point is: you are you, and nobody has the right to tell you that you are wrong about who you are.

    Genderfluid is totally a valid gender identity; a lot of this stuff isn't nearly as binary as the common culture seems to think it is.

    Well, fine, then YOU should start with book 4. But as it's been fairly well-established that Twi and I are brain twins, she'll probably be OK starting at the beginning like I did.

    Well, Dresden Files is a series, so you'll need to start with Storm Front. It's over a dozen books in now. You'll have lots to read.

    I'm right there with ya, buddy. Rowling suffers from not really having a clue about American culture and compounded the problem by Not Doing the Research. This makes me sad. And, yes....Twi, you should read Dresden Files. It's sooo goooood.
