  1. Oh, I agree that Rory knew what she was getting into. But Odette certainly doesn't. And I genuinely don't have any problems with consensual non-monogamy; my major problem with the situation is that Odette doesn't know. So it's not really consensual amongst all parties. And yeah, they're both guilty there. I can see so many places where Rory quietly dismissed her as a chalk outline of a person who didn't really exist...until she did. Come on, Rory. You know better. The real difference here in how I view Logan and Rory in this is that Logan doing it doesn't surprise me at all because this is par for his course. Rory, though, disappointed me. Marty was a Pinocchio; he suffered from Writers Didn't Really Care Enough To Make Me A Real Boy Syndrome. Poor kid. But really, Logan's in his thirties now, too. He's way too old for that whole poor little rich boy schtick. He's had more than enough time to grow a pair and start acting like an adult. But it's easier not to, so he doesn't.
  2. I think the only thing I disagree with here is Logan. I honestly can't stand him. He's spoiled, selfish, and more than a little bit narcissistic. The events of the revival pretty much continue that; Logan does what Logan wants, unless it defies his father, in which case he'll do what his father wants on the surface and then sneak around and do what (or who) he wants on the side, and to heck with the collateral damage. I'm still bitter that Rory never dated Marty. Like, never even acknowledged that Marty had a crush on her. They had so much in common, so strong of an actual connection, and she (or the show) just dumped him off to the side and never mentioned him again.
  3. Oh, gods, I hate the crooner songs. I always have. Something about that soft, mellow voice hits a nerve and I'm ready to punch the radio in the face.
  4. The Twelve Pains of Christmas is one that will restore your faith in holiday humor.
  5. Just remember, they can only make you as miserable as you care about their ire. And...you know what? I have a theory. Imma Facechat you.
  6. Yes, sorry! Sometimes it takes me a few days to gather my thoughts. And then sometimes I do that, and only then think to poke through Theoryland, and find gems like this one that render about half of my ponderances moot: Source: http://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kw=chromium This is much clearer (and slightly more recent) than the WoB I got. It states pretty clearly that chromium, like aluminum, completely destroys the metals, at least enough to remove any possibility of metal poisoning. Which is what I really wanted to know, beyond the simple aesthetics of whether a piercing would disappear or just drain. Chromium mistings, then, would be very useful to Allomancers who had accidentally ingested an impure base metal or a bad alloy. It also would suggest that chromium savants could potentially obtain the ability to cleanse impurities from the body the way Aluminum savants only could theoretically. With aluminum, you zap all your metal reserves, including the aluminum itself. Chromium, however, works on others, which means that you're burning the metal at a normal rate rather than just losing it every time you use it. I would posit that the WoBs are probably more accurate than the story's PoV, for several possible reasons: 1) This is an adventure story in a broadsheet. We can recognize Nazh and posit that the basic events probably happened, but we don't actually know whether they happened exactly like that (though the dialogue sounds pretty in-character). We also do not know whether the misting actually wrote this, or if she has a ghostwriter who embellishes things up for the audience. 2a) How would your average chromium misting even know for sure whether the metals themselves are gone? Most of them are hitting Allomancers, who carry their reserves unseen. We don't really know if the power works on ferrings or their metalminds. In the scenario I put forward, the target was a Twinborn Compounder, so the Allomancy worked on both her internal reserves and pierced metalminds without bringing true Feruchemy into the equation. 2b) So to know for sure whether the metals disappear, our chromium misting would have to have tested it on someone with charged piercings. Possibly that target would have to be a Compounder, which would make it even harder to test the theory, though I will admit that we do not know for sure this is the case. My conclusion is that the WoB is accurate and the broadsheet story wrong on this subject. Feel free to disagree with me if you like; I believe the evidence above supports this theory, but it's not a 100% slam dunk. It is, however, solid enough that I feel confident that my fanfic WiP is using the correct mechanics. So either a ghostwriter decided to add their own spin to chromium, or the misting is simply taking what their power "feels" like and making assumptions based on that feeling.
  7. Inhale pink, exhale blue. You can do this. Your family does not have the hold over your life that they once did, and a holiday trip isn't going to change that. No matter what happens, no matter what anyone says, just remember that they cannot do a single dingdangity thing about how you choose to live your life and it's probably driving them nuts.
  8. I...thought it was gold actually. And that red would have clashed with my hair. But you may be on to something, I'm not sure. @bleeder actually did the photo manip that gave me a hat, because he is kind and/or bored.
  9. Heat does help. So does naproxen. I basically have about 24-48 hours every month where I have to have some kind of painkiller in my system or else things get really, really bad.
  10. Ooh. Well, that's definitely not it, then. I hate my reproductive system so much.
  11. I am beginning to suspect that somehow, despite the fact that we live hundreds of miles apart, our cycles have synched up.
  12. If you haven't read Secret History yet, I strongly recommend it. For those who have, Secret History spoilers:
  13. Seriously? Your reaction to seeing someone reading a book was to pop out a major spoiler for the end of the book?
  14. I did not sidestep the argument. I maintain that Honor was playing the long game - he wasn't concerned with just the near consequences, but the far-reaching ones. The purpose of binding Odium to the Rosharan system was to prevent him from striking out beyond it. So long as Odium is trapped, the rest of the Cosmere is safe from him. The Merriam-Webster definition of Odium: Used in Cosmere terms, Odium means Hatred. Odium hates. For now, he can direct it at those who oppose his power, but due to the influence of his Shard, it will not end there. It can't. He won't go into a massive destructive tantrum a la Ruin, but he once his direct enemies are gone he will continue to hate and find new targets. No, for the most part, they won't be important enough for him to bother to kill. But he will torture, oppress, and turn the Cosmere into his own giant corner of hell, because that is his Shard's Intent.
  15. For now. Odium's current goal is to be the only Shard - until all of the others are Splintered, he's got bigger fish to fry. But his Intent is pure hatred. Once he's the last Shard standing, I doubt he's going to sit back and say, "Ahh, that was a job well done! I won! I shall celebrate my victory and take a nap amongst the dandelions and ne'er harm another soul again!" No, he's going to direct that hatred at the next targets, and all of the sapient races of the Cosmere will suffer. Because even though Rayse was well-suited to his Shard* and has had his base personality remain relatively intact, he is still driven by its Intent. He can't help it. Without other Shards to oppose him, he will hate and rain destruction down on anyone and everyone he can. Honor knew this. *This is scary.
  16. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, as it were. Yes, Honor cares about Roshar and its people, but he also knows that there are other Shards out there and other worlds full of people who would fall prey to Odium's depredations were he to be released. He sacrificed himself and his world in order to save many, many others, an act befitting the personification of Honor.
  17. I'm an hour earlier than you are, so still at work. We should eat something for dinner besides just bread, though. I'll have to see what the grocery store has available.
  18. Oooooh, fancy bread. I was just pondering what we ought to have for dinner. That should be part of it, after having been warmed up in the oven. We have homemade blackberry jam and homemade pumpkin butter to adorn said fancy bread.
  19. Your choice was probably the wise one. Go treat yourself to a really nice bit of chocolate tonight.
  20. Usually, the minimum time for safely leaving food "out" is about 4 hours. This may be extended a bit if the chicken started out frozen. So...depending on how long it sat there, it might've been OK. Though that may just be assuming it's been cooked. With raw chicken, I could be completely off.
  21. It's stories like these that make me glad I wound up in a career other than teaching. @Chaos, please tell me there were at least a few students who shone their inner mathematical light and actually did the problems correctly, thus giving us a single glimmer of hope for humanity?
  22. Well, then maybe I'll finally catch a gorram Pikachu. Even if it is wearing a festive Santa hat. I mean, I would never wear a Santa hat. Nope. Not ever.
  23. The spawning percentages and nests seem to change up every so often. It's a constant cycling of things. The area that was a Pinsir nest a couple of weeks ago is probably producing something else now.
  24. And NOW I see this, and the PM I sent you a few minutes ago is suddenly slightly dumber than when I sent it. *flail*
  25. I assure you, we are not. And totally beware of the cookies. They're sharp and ouchy.
