Falo um pouco. At least as of yet.
We've been using Lingo Legend to get some groundwork built for months (and to a lesser extent, Drops), but we need to get ourselves into language lessons. There are government-sponsored ones that they offer for free, but I think we need to at least have both of our AIMA appointments scheduled before we qualify. (Mine just got set, but my spouse is still waiting on his.)

So I guess there are still a few people lurking around here who follow my status updates.
Yesterday, I signed a book contract with Mocha Memoirs Press. They're gonna publish my debut novel!

Right now, it's got a tentative title of "Burning Bridges" but that could change. I had to scramble for a placeholder with splitting the original book in two, with the original title ("Into the Fire") working better for what is now book 2.
We're over a year out from publication. Still a lot of editing work to do.

So I wrote a daffy little short story called "Upward Mobility." It's about a demon who gets accidentally summoned to Earth via IKEA assembly. Shenanigans ensue.
Well, the anthology I threw it at really liked it, and that anthology is running a Kickstarter (has about a week left on it). It's packed with loads more good stories than just mine, too!

I have been published!
And I have been drawn!

Why, hello, Rejection Senstivity Dysphoria! It's been a while since you came out to play. Thanks for giving me this bout of deeply illogical anxiety about tomorrow night's writer critique group meeting, I'd almost forgotten what it feels like to be totally crippled with nerves over nothing.

It's probably a really good sign that, while working on revisions, I find that I really enjoy the story I wrote. Might be I done some good fanfic.
Or is that arrogance? Hubris maybe? I DON'T KNOW. -
You know what all this lockdown time is good for?
Writing.
You know what I needed a kick in my behind to do?Revision, which is a writing prestige class.
You know what I'm revising?
I bet some of you might.

My Words have been accepted.

It appears as though I am likely to be in the Salt Lake area in the general vicinity of May 31 - June 1 or 2.

Um. Lots. Definitely Zion (there's a lot of pretty wilderness between SLC and Zion) and Grand Canyon. There's other stuff around in there, and we'll head down to Sedona and visit Meteor Crater, the Painted Desert, and the Petrified Forest. Depending on time/stamina, we might head home from there or angle down into souther NM to visit Carlsbad Caverns.

The internet is dark and full of spoilers.

My dog had a weird spell last night. She suddenly appeared to lose her balance and fall over onto her side. After a couple of flails, she got back up and then walked around in a confused circle a few times, every so often glancing up at me with an expression of, "Mom, why am I not walking in a straight line?"
She shook it off pretty quickly, and research indicates that this is a thing that can happen to older dogs sometimes. Still. Vet appointment for her next week.

So. I am back from vacation. Hawaii was awesome. And I only got sunburned a little!
Didja miss me?

Hmm. Well, on our beach day, there were monk seals hanging out. That was kinda cool. They had them all roped off so people wouldn't bother them.
And then the lifeguard announced over the loudspeaker that some poor guy had lost his wedding ring.
About an hour later, a snorkeler had found and turned it in.

Dear Hawaii,
Kona storms are only supposed to happen during late fall through winter. It is officially the middle of spring, so we were neither planning nor expecting to get drenched for two days straight.
This is supposed to be our danged vacation! Please stop raining out and cancelling/rescheduling our activities.
Love (ish),
Me.

I am sewing a mistcloak right now.

Oooh, I have attracted a pile of random trolls on Facebook! This...this is going to be a fun weekend.

Update:
All has gone well this weekend. The march was an amazing experience, and getting to spend face-to-face time for the first time with one of my best friends has been awesome.
I fly home tomorrow morning. Peace out, y'all.

Prepping to fly to DC for the Women's March on Washington. (I debated for a while whether to flat-out say what I'm doing this weekend. Ultimately I decided that I can post about it on my feed without starting any massive political debates.) So yeah, I'm doing the protest thing. I think it's important, so I'm going to go walk the walk.
Some things:
I will be updating probably more via Facebook than here, cause it's easier to do on my phone. If you're looking for updates on Saturday as to how I am / if I'm OK, talk to ThirdGen Or TwiLyghtSansSparkles. They should have access to my FB updates.
I will not be alone, so don't fret that I'm going to just get lost in the ginormous crowd. I'll be meeting up with Oudeis and his mom and sister, and we will be doing the march thing together.
Honestly, I don't really expect things to get all that dicey. This is a crapton of people involved, and most of the city establishment is supportive. Be more concerned about the folks participating in the smaller co-marches in other cities around the country.

GIR!!!!
We now conclude this interruption. Back to your regularly scheduled Sharding.

You know a game of Calvinball is getting a little out of hand when you have to invoke the Geneva Convention.

I have entirely too much fun tormenting my team members at work with my weirdness.

Now, I'm not saying that this is necessarily the most ethical thing to do, but if I were an outgoing president or vice president facing an incoming administration of the opposite party composed of people I absolutely despise, I might be tempted to, say, leave glitter booby traps in the Oval Office and hide Annoy-a-Trons all over the White House.
In a completely unrelated question, does anybody happen to have any connections to Joe Biden? I have some ideas for him on a thing. It's top secret.
