Just edit it out? The post is fine. And if he can solve the code without the site, the code is fine too, according to the rules (though Hael may have something more to say about this game in particular).

Not Hael, but modhat on real fast. From the General Rules: So that site is most definitely against the SE rules.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
little wilson replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Slight backstory: Remember that job that I complained about a few times? I found a new job. This new job is not bad day thread-worthy. The point here is that I had health insurance with my old job and I've been with this one for a little over a month and don't qualify for health insurance yet. So I'm uninsured. Onto the story (which is less a bad day and more a bad month). Long story short, I've had to pay over $2100 in the last month between my phone (which bricked itself so I had to buy a new one) and very necessary, high priority car repairs. And now, thanks to an overly-exerting activity I did last night, I feel like I'm coming down with bronchitis. I've had it twice in my life and I feel almost exactly as I did both of those times, just to a slightly lesser degree (the first was in 2009 and the second in 2013, and then I almost got it again in 2014). I'd go to the doctor to get a diagnosis and prescription except that I don't have insurance right now, so would be paying for everything out of pocket, which I can't really afford since I've already had over $2k in unexpected expenditures. When it rains, it really pours. Like, seriously. -
Emphasis mine. Forgive me if I don't actually believe this. The initial vote, at 9:04 AM MDT: Less than an hour and a half later: I can see where this would seem worrisome from a village standpoint. However, that second bit will become relevant here in a bit. About 30 minutes later: And before you say that you just didn't see this, let me direct you to this post, posted 45 minutes later More justification of why a lynch of a neutral who is open to helping both the village and the eliminators. And you're also worried that he's going to side completely with the eliminators to end the game as fast as possible, even though he said he wanted to "let Chaos happen on a large scale." I'm sorry, but did I miss that part of chaos' definition? Where things are decidedly unchaotic? Huh. Fascinating. Maybe I should take another gander at the dictionary: Nope. Didn't miss anything. It's definitely about disorder and confusion. Chaos. So where exactly does chaos fit with your idea of Joe siding with the eliminators? Or all of the neutrals siding with the eliminators (which actually seems to be what you're getting at here)? Because again, that doesn't seem chaotic. That seems fairly ordered. The game would essentially be over by the end of Cycle 3, even if it would carry on for a few cycles after that, with its final gasps of air. I don't know about you, but I define 'chaotic' games as ones that are still running after cycle 8 and can still go either way. Where both sides have a chance. Chaos can be fun. Siding entirely with one team is not chaos, nor is it particularly fun. Anyway, this is completely ignoring Brightness' comment about how Joe was willing to help the village. So no, I don't accept your excuse that you had no indication he'd help the village as well. You did have indication. You just chose to ignore it because it didn't fit your narrative. I'm not sure I'd say you're trying to alienate the neutrals, since that gives you more credit than you deserve, but I do definitely think you are anti-neutral. If a neutral isn't all in with you, they're an enemy. Heaven forbid we play to our alignment and/or win con.

Yeah. Some I don't like (predominately WIFOM, since IKYK is literally the same thing and it's much easier to explain), some I do. Townread (as opposed to village read, which isn't really any different, but townread is just...simpler), tinfoil. A few others I can't think of right now. They're good changes. The real time posting last year was problematic since it was more like early-game Lute (aka, pointless), but this year was real time mixed with analysis still and that's easily something that would work here. And I like it, even if I'm not doing it right now.

Partly you as well. You've always been active and trying to engage players and generate discussion, but this is....more. It's like that previous activity on steroids or something. You've channeled that necessity to ask questions and get people talking straight from the championship into here. Between those questions and people responding, the thread has exploded far more than even our most talkative D1 and there are still 4 more hours left in the day. Granted, those hours are going to be less talkative, but I'm betting we'll get at least another page. I'm playing a little differently as well. My post activity isn't really any different, but there are some other changes. Mainly terminology right now, but I'm fairly certain that were my alignment different, there would even more.

It's fascinating to me how much playing/spectating the championship has affected some of us. I think that might be one of the main reasons the post count is as high as it currently is for Day 1. 9 hours ago, this wasn't the highest post count in a day, but it was up there, I think. But now? We have more posts in this day than some of the entire previous games. o.O

I'm pretty sure Yitzi is European or somewhere in that timezone-ish, so while he's not around now, I imagine he'll get on before rollover and have time to defend himself. Unfortunately, that doesn't help the votes from players who will be asleep at that point in time.

I wouldn't vote based on a major tinfoil like that. Just my own personal recommendation. Aman is very active, and active players are good to have around, regardless of their alignment. More game discussion is always a good thing. Dead threads make for lame games. Now, give it a few turns and if there is more evidence to substantiate that tinfoil, then perhaps. But D1? Nah. No point.

Hey, I did say it was a major tinfoil. Though honestly, if they were teammates, I could see them doing this. 'm not saying I'm suspicious of either of them (I'm neutral, so I have no reason to be, though I'd be rather paranoid, were I village), but it's a possibility. And really, I find Aman's hard defense of Rand specifically to be very strange.

Major tinfoil time: Rand and Aman are elims together and because they're both seen as very good evil players, they're doing things that people would never expect them to do as eliminators (Rand trying to alienate the neutrals from the village, because he'd never do that as an eliminator so clearly he's village, and Aman defending Rand so hardcore since he would never jump so hard and so early to the defense of a teammate).

My thoughts on the Rand situation? I've mostly just been skimming it. I can see both you and Orlok's take on him, though I don't think Orlok's hypothesis is as far-fetched as you say, Aman. Mostly because I remember both Sart and Rae doing exactly that to me in LG26. Rae already mentioned that, and you wrote it off as impractical, but I don't really. Do I think that's necessarily what's going on here? I don't know. To be completely honest, I don't really....care? Like, there's a reason I've been hitting so hard on the "let the neutrals do their thing" thing. You can take that as an alignment claim, by the way.

Called it: As for this: I called that too: Okay, so. Joe. I disagree with Rand rather vehemently. See, based on what's been revealed to the thread, Joe isn't throwing all-in with the eliminators. Joe likes chaos and fun (he's even said this in some of the PMs to other players: he's wants chaos). He plays to optimize chaos and fun. You want to know what isn't chaotic or fun? Siding solely with the eliminators to end the game faster. Same goes for siding solely with the village. I'm not at all surprised that a neutral Joe would do what's been said. And I do think he's neutral, though I'm not convinced he's the Convict. But I don't particularly care what his role is, because I'm far more concerned with his alignment. Neutrals are neutrals. They are not villagers. They are not eliminators. You should not expect a neutral to help you as if they are on your side. What you should expect from a neutral is for them to be neutral. To play for themselves. To do what they have to do for their win con. So don't expect a neutral to help the village sift out the eliminators and report back any eliminator foolish enough to claim to them. That would be a super-lame game, and I'm shocked that some of you wanted him to do that. Neutrals have basically two options in terms of strategic play (though this can vary depending on their precise win con): ignore both alignments and not get involved with the conflict (boring and could backfire on them, because collateral damage) or help both sides equally. Remember what I said about the neutral alignment being a delicate line to walk? That you can't help one side more than the other? Yeah, that's what this is. If a neutral helps only the village, they might as well be village, and they'll probably be killed by the eliminators at some point (and don't think that the village will protect the neutral from this. Why would they? That protection is much better placed on an actual villager than someone not on their team). If a neutral helps only the eliminators, they might as well be an eliminator, and they will be killed by the village. Take a look at how some of you are reacting right now to the very idea that Joe might consider possibly helping the eliminators in addition to the village. Yeahhh. Um. What did you expect him to do? He's neutral. Not village. Also, you say that some of the other neutral roles have agreed to help the village. Did you ask if they were planning on helping the eliminators as well? Would you be upset if they did? Knowing Orlok, I'd bet a fair bit that he's open to helping both sides. Do I think that warrants his death? Certainly not. Because once Cosette targets him and his alignment changes to neutral, he's no longer village. His win con is no longer that of the village win con. No villager should expect him to play exactly as he would if his alignment were still village. It's simple as that. Neutral is very different from village. Don't mix them up.

As far as I know, all of Straw's PM's contained a single question: "What are your thoughts on the game?" How hard do you actually think that is to come up with as an eliminator? It makes you appear useful and village without doing a single dang thing. It takes literally no thought. And his group PMs....my word, the group PMs are worse than pointless. He went down the player list, separating into groups of 3, saying that it was for group discussion. Yeah, because lots of people would rather use PMs with people they don't have repertoire with that the thread or PMs that they started with people they actually trust/choose to talk to. I think not. But again, it makes him seem useful, and it also could potentially provide him with a lot of information. In my one-on-one PM with Straw, I made some comments about the game, and then asked his thoughts. He responded less than a minute later, saying nothing about the comments that I had (I expected a villager to say something about them, given that what I'd said is generally controversial from most village perspectives) and just saying that he didn't have any thoughts. So he's trying to get information but not give any. Neither of those - the lack of response to what I'd said or the lack of thoughts - are particularly village-y to me. Stink may be saying very little, but he's at least shared a few of his thoughts in the thread and he's discussed some game-related things in my PM with him. I've got a far better and clearer read on Stink (read: hardcore neutral) than I do on Straw, who is sitting passively by and letting everyone else share thoughts, while he shares nothing except that he wants Stink lynched. Because Stink is also PMing and dislikes the pointless group PMs. Right. Because that makes sense. I find your defense of Straw suspicious, Yitzi.

It might be better to reschedule though, since there's a chance that @OrlokTsubodai might be in Utah a couple days later, and if he is, I'm sure he wouldn't mind coming to a meeting.

Um. You might want to look up the definition of the word lurker. Stink doesn't exactly qualify.

I never said I have a bad gut read of Joe. I said I had no read, but that I had a bad gut read of El because she town-read Joe for that post. Also, I really don't think other public claims would be a good idea. I can see why Orlok would, because he has virtually nothing to lose by doing so (other than his village alignment and role ability). He's village right now, but tonight, he'll switch to Neutral, because Cosette will target him, and they'll become lovers. Eponine knows who he is, and can protect him, and if the eliminators target him, Eponine will save him, and then he'll become lovers with both Cosette and Eponine and he'll have PMs with both as well. And if you're wondering why Orlok would sacrifice his role/alignment to be a Neutral Lynchpin of a Love Triangle, that's why: the constant communication. He wants the PMs. Additionally, Val Jean's one-shot protection of Cosette extends to Marius when they become lovers. Role-claiming was perhaps the smartest thing Orlok could've done. It makes him far less likely to be attacked which helps his soon-to-be new win con of survival, it helps Cosette get the first half of her win con (since once she's lovers, then she has to survive as well), and it gives him steady communication. Win-win for him. I disagree that killing/lynching neutrals is pointless for either alignment. I think that's very contingent on how the neutral is playing. For example, if a neutral who only has to survive went all-in with the villagers, I could totally see the eliminators killing that neutral and making them lose. Send a lesson about playing in a way that's detrimental to your win con. It may not help the eliminators in a way that gets them closer to their win con, but it doesn't hurt it either. The same can be said for a neutral who goes all-in with the eliminators. Once the village finds out about that, do you really think they'd let the neutral live? Some of them might not care and would ignore the neutral, but not all of them would. Basically, neutral alignment is a very sensitive alignment, because your win con matters a ton to how you play it. You need to survive? Don't take sides, because the side you go against is more likely to want you dead. But if you don't take sides, one of the teams might not be happy about that, because they really want you to help them. And since you're not technically on their team, they don't really care what happens to you. Just so long as you help them and don't help their opponent. It's a very delicate line to walk. And it can be painful. I speak from experience and it was not a terribly pleasant experience for a time. I would not recommend any neutral role claim publicly. You want to privately claim? Go right ahead, but you should probably be careful about that too. I regretted the one time I publicly claimed as a neutral. It's the only time I've regretted a public claim.

Personally, I got an LG26 vibe from Joe's post. Not really a vibe from Joe in that game, but from a number of comments made in that game. It's the last game we had with a large number of neutral roles, and Joe was evil. He'd remember those comments, and I can see him using similar arguments in a game with a lot of neutrals. This isn't to say I think he's evil. I don't. I read that post as non alignment-indicative, for Joe. He'd say something similar from any alignment. I do however have a minor gut read about El for townreading Joe based on it. I would think she would know better, were she village. My other gut read right now is Jon, but I can't give reasons for it, because it is entirely gut. There's just....something with his post about this being a vanilla game, but I can't put my finger on what.

Couple of questions about the Pauper Baron and his two potential lovers. I assume a love triangle is possible. Is this correct? If not, what happens with the Convict's Ward's win con if she finds the Pauper Baron but he's already lovers with the Thief's Daughter? If so, what happens to the Pauper Baron's alignment? Does it change/stay the same based on the order of his lovers finding him? (Convict's Ward finds him first, so he changes to neutral, but then the Thief's Daughter finds him so he goes back to village) Or does his alignment only matter with who finds him first?

Well, not a game like this. LG 14 was a Shard game. It just turned into a Les Mis parody game because Joe (the GM) referenced Les Mis in a tag during sign ups, and it went from there...

There are at least three that I can recall. Hael did a parody of Do You Hear the People Sing (about voting for me, the traitor), I did one of I Dreamed A Dream (Hael killed the dreamed I dreamed) and then Hael and I collaborated on a Confrontation parody. I'd link to them, but I'm on my phone so that's not happening. But they're all rather good, especially the collaboration.
