Well, if you wanted to just provide some good backstory for the RP and get people interested in reading it, you could summarize the Panda invasion. Without a doubt, that is the most Oregon-y thing to take place around here so far.

Sub-subtheory: Though Deathwish would aggressively hit on any dementors he encountered, the creatures would refuse to kiss him. They would instead simply utilize the "dementor's slap" to drive him off.

Like Blackhoof said, the big problem here is that we now have way more threads and way more characters. Also, more people. If we wanted to do something about it, perhaps we could create a sort of spreadsheet or doc which we update as we go with all of the currently running plotlines, and who needs to post to get them done. Biweekly, we could post onto the Questions thread who needs to write what. I mean, sure, it'd be sort of obnoxious to be reminded so regularly, but organization is key, and it'd make procrastination more nerve-racking (we've all been there.)

It was... a while ago. Before you even joined, maybe. It was small, basically just Soulcaster saying "Okay, we're done here for the day."

Yeah, but that doesn't mean that Calamity wasn't, er... inspired by what he saw in our dimension. And I prefer our Trump to Nighthound, even if only because Trump has absolutely no chance of winning the general election.

Or he could just be introduced to one of the threads. Corvallis, maybe. He'd start drawing a large base of support, but mysteriously, no one in the city would appear to actually know anyone who's one of his followers, which would beg the question of who the heck the support was coming from. Oh, and I forgot Modus Operandi. Trumpeter's goal is to get into a position where he can safely destroy the people on his "enemies list." He's not crafty or manipulative in this regard. In fact, he's basically just a big, stupid, bully who happens to get his way most of the time due to sheer arrogance. He's pretty paranoid, so the people on his "enemies list" are basically just random people who he perceives as having a grudge against him.

You're forgetting something important about his barrierkinesis: Trumpeter doesn't make the walls himself, he instead simply has the power to intimidate the other person build them for him, at super speed. Also: -Deportation: Trumpeter has the ability to "mark" victims upon touch. The timeline is altered so that unfailingly, the marked person is forcibly picked up by two guys in a white van and dropped off outside the state within 24 hours. -Hair Familiar: Trumpeter's "hair" is actually a sentient creature which has attached itself to his head. It's invincible, and Trumpeter can command it verbally. If Trumpeter is attacked, his hair will automatically crawl down his body to absorb attacks. -Demagogue: Trumpeter has the power to drive crowds into a mindless rage directed at his enemies. -Small Loan: Trumpeter has the power to summon a small loan of one million US dollars, in any denomination of bills that he chooses, at any location within 10 meters. The small loan of one million dollars disappears within 24 hours. -Ya' fired: Self explanatory. Trumpeter can make people spontaneously combust simply by stating these two words to them. The victim must be sitting down for the ability to work. -Unphotogenic: Trumpeter is so unphotogenic that people automatically destroy any photo they see of him. This makes Trumpeter a very elusive figure to lorists. ... Now I actually sort of want to make this a thing, albeit only with a few of the powers (probably Hair Familiar, Small Loan, and Hate Speech.) EDIT: and stop ninja'ing me.

Is it just me, or did Question 18 have a longer lifespan than average? Either way, it'll be missed. He's not even close to some other Wasteland Epics. Mister's Epic had the power to have any ability that the people he used it on believed he had, as well as a powerful, city-wide ranged, memory-altering Epic in his retinue.

Well, but proficiencies are also pretty important in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, and that's what I'm getting at. Some people excel at transfiguration, others at potions, others at herbology, and so on, and it seemed as if there was a whole lot of variability in how effective spells and stuff were based on a person's skill and "power." In fact, I'm pretty sure it was a key element of the characterization. I'd imagine that by just going freeform we'd be losing that whole element, but maybe I'm visualizing it wrong.

What do you think about introducing a stat system to this? It's not as if I'm an expert on (or even a huge proponent of) tabletop games, but it seems pertinent. All we'd probably need is a list of learned spells, and our proficiency with them, along with the basic proficiencies in the various magic schools. I mean, I guess a free-form RPG is fine, but this is the kind of setting where outcomes are uncertain, so dice rolls and stats would be fitting. (Oh, huh. Google reveals that there already is some sort of Harry Potter RPG in place. Well, actually learning it seems like a waste of time, so I'd still be up for designing something uncomplicated real quick)

I only mentioned the calcium because it seemed thematically appropriate (his name's latin for "shell," right?) That take on the powerset was sort of weird, but do you see what I'm saying? It seems as if when we visualize force field users, we all picture something slightly different. I visualize the power a certain way, you another, and then Brandon Sanderson has a completely different idea of what the power looks like and how it's used (look at Phaedrus.) I guess character motivation (sort of?) works as a limiting factor, but the best way to decide how your character uses their powerset is to limit the powerset itself in the way you want, especially when force fields are involved. Forget the liquid thingy. What I was trying to say is that you can make him act like you want by setting up a bunch of rigid rules. As a bonus, this makes the powerset seem much more unique, and we can probably do this with only two extra limitations: -Force fields can only be created within 1 meter of Calyx's physical body (when he attacks people, you want him to use force fields as balls or tendrils, correct? This will force him to attack with projectiles instead of doing the force field stuff that qualifies as insta-kills.) -Force fields have to form a contiguous, solid shape (so basically, the fields aren't really flat planes, but take the form of a gelatinous mass that Calyx manipulates however he wants. Maybe?) -Oh, also the force fields are fairly light (as opposed to heavy. They bruise people, maybe break some bones when they hit, but don't tear people apart with the concentrated force of a locomotive engine.) I guess I don't really care, though. If you don't really see this as part of your character, that's fine.

Good ol' Orange Crush indeed. We currently have 2 force field Epics in the RP (I think.) One is in Astoria, and he can bend the fields however he wants, but can't move them. Crush is the opposite. He can move the fields but not bend them. These kind of distinctions are important, since force field summoning is, hands down, pretty much the most powerful physical ability imaginable, provided there are no limitations. I don't know about War Smasher, but the limitations on Crush include: -Limited to a casting range of 3 1/2 meters -The larger the field, the slower it can be moved -Sharp edges and complex shapes are difficult to create, requiring several seconds of concentration and need to be created very close to Crush -Can't be cast inside of solid objects, including all organic matter -Can only have one field at a time -Fields must have a surface area of at least one square foot -Fields can't be expanded contracted after casting And also: -Fields automatically move along with his center of mass, accounting for air resistance and collision with physical objects -Fields are dual-sided. One side is nearly unbreakable, the other absorbs kinetic energy -Fields are orange (obviously.) It's all pretty complicated, but it works, I guess. Basically, we gave him the abilities that I wanted him to have (summoning wedge-shaped projectiles, flying, blocking bullets and explosions) and removed the ones that I didn't care about but are implied (trapping people in a ball and crushing them, summoning a field inside a building and expanding it to tear the structure apart, city-wide range.) Just food for thought, since I haven't weighed in on this discussion yet. Based on what Bram's said, I think it might be best to make these abilities work like a sort of fluid that Calyx can summon, a sort of calcium-based blob of matter that he can control and shape and harden into practically-unbreakable walls. He can only summon it very, very, close to himself (1 meter?) but can control it in a much farther range. It decays within seconds, but he can always keep summoning more to shield and surround himself when that's the objective. I don't know. Obviously, I don't want to override whatever you had in mind, but this might be closer to what you were visualizing (?)

Eh. Just noting it. If this were a tabletop RPG or something, we'd decide the outcome of situations like this with dice rolls. Since this is roleplaying only, we sort of have this. Fate's last post was definitive enough that I think it's over, actually, though there might've been some godmodding involved. Mostly, I'm just surprised that Quicksilver is that powerful. I knew he was practically unstoppable at close and medium range, but like this, he's practically Regalia except with metal. I think we just established that he could destroy buildings... the entire town, actually, in a matter of minutes.

Summary of the situation in The Dalles so far: Arsenal: "I'm escalating the missile attack so that it's impossible for any metal manipulator to control it." Quicksilver: "I'm controlling the missile attack anyway." [repeat on loop]

Nah. "SansShutdown" implies lack of a shutdown, which is misleading, since there absolutely was one. "TwiLyghtSuperShutdown" might be more accurate.

Oof. I sort of like Showstopper. Having someone kill some of the inactives' Epics off is a good idea, though, Edge. I think we should do exactly that. Do you think we should wait till, night, though? What was it that we needed to do before then?

Eh. Coup. It's not really all that interesting, honestly. The reason it hasn't come to fruition is that it's sort of ridiculous. Soulcaster is the only reason the city has it so good. Remove him, and the town's garbage. Even if it really did start forming for real, it's too much of a blow to the narrative to actually happen and be good. At best, it's a good source of tension, like the upcoming battle between Corpsemaker and the other two factions in Portland. What I'm really talking about is something to get the town moving. Our characters can sort of poke around and be angsty about fighting right now, but what they really need is something to... do. I actually sort of like the idea of a contestant getting murdered, then people walking around trying to figure out what's going on meeting each other and having conflict, etc. Salem's narrative (if you can call it that) requires stability, so it can't be something that upsets the town's infastructure, but... well, there should be something. That's my two cents, anyway.

Is that where I am now? Neat! Alright, well does anyone have an idea to really shake things up in Salem? To do in that thread what The Panda did to The Dalles? An invasion wouldn't really work... maybe, like, a murder mystery? Something that everyone can react to, but doesn't completely change up the thread? Where did the guy who wrote Morpheus go? Did I forget who it was and he's still hanging around? It sounded as if he was pretty excited about getting to night in Salem, but... did he stop getting on?

Didn't we shut down a character exactly like this a few weeks ago? Eh. Anyway, having a character's MO as "kill Epics" doesn't really work. I mean... most of the characters in the RP are Epics. They always either mellow out or become obsolete.
