  1. I used to only drink tea, but now I drink coffee more often (caffeine addiction, what). I will keep the Twinnings variety pack in stock at home for when I feel like tea. My favorite tea is probably Earl Grey (loose leaf from Rishi is great) or pretty much any black tea with just a little milk. Not a huge fan of the herbals. I don’t mind green tea when the mood strikes. I do really enjoy the Moroccan gunpowder mint green tea with a little sugar. I think I got that last from Teavanna. Oof, I feel you on that one. I have a little bamboo thing, have watched a bunch of youtube videos but just can’t get it right hot. I love matcha flavored things, and I’ve made a killer green tea pound cake with the leftover matcha I wasn’t brewing right (doesn't take a lot, really). I also do an iced matcha latte, frothing the milk and matcha with a wand, no elbow grease, but its too delicious to deny.
  2. Heya, Shortycake! I've always had a crush on Elend, but I think going on a platonic date with Vin would be awesome. We could sharpen knives together, swap war stories, complain about what a tool Ruin is, you know, girl stuff.
  3. Cthulhu Kitty!!!! What a name to answer to, haha. Sorry to hear he passed away, though. And yes, its getting really hard to start new a series knowing that its still being written. The Cosmere is genius in how it holds my interest. Totally agree with you there.

    Shallan

Omg, thank you! Everytime I sketch her, even when I'm trying to give her a smile, she always ends up with a slightly quizzical expression, I'm happy you like this one.
  5. Ooooh, great responses, so very interesting. Traceria, I love the idea that you have books just scattered about. So what do you keep in the bathroom? Hahah, jkjk. I do keep a Cthulhu collection by my desk at home, I'm not sure why...and I usually keep a collection of poetry at my desk at work. I like to read a random poem when I need a mental break, since they usually don't take that long to get through. Lately I've noticed on the subway some of the ads are poem features, it's really great I wish they had more. I definitely agree that short stories are great for a commute, I currently have the King in Yellow by Robert Chambers on my phone, but I haven't checked out Dangerous Women yet, that seems like a good one. Hmm, I've only done audio for Asoiaf, Argent. I have a bit of a walk to get home, so I'd listen for 15-20 minutes on foot and then continue reading from the book at home. I would definitely do more if an old British man were the voice, haha. Omg, yess, right?! I had read Kingkiller before I'd even got word about Sanderson, so now I definitely feel like I'm cheating with how invested I am in SA. Haha, awesome. In the middle of WoR, I was like half way through, so I had like 500 pages to go, lol, and I was enjoying it so much that I stopped reading it for 2 weeks. I didn't want it to end, so I just didn't read anything for 2 weeks... Ah, yeah, I will usually rush to finish whatever I started if something I'm looking forward to comes out. Haha, Bloodfalcon, hit it and quit it...niiiice. Do you ever think you'll ever go back to any of it one day? I like to think that I'll finish Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle one day, but I might be lying to myself. But, yeah, not a bad thing, though, you just follow your err...passions.
  6. Are you the type of reader who just sticks with one book until the end? Or do you read more than one book at a time, flipping between them? If you are reading novels in a series, do you typically read each entry back to back until its over (given that they are all written already) or do you take breaks between each book? I was just thinking today that I’ve always been the type to read several different books at once, until I started reading fantasy. What I would do is start a long or more challenging book, enjoyable in doses, but not really a page turner, and then work on several shorter/easier reads. That way I didn’t have to worry about reader’s block or powering through and can work on the “fast book with short chapters” on my commute. This got even easier with tablets and ebooks. Now, binging on fantasy, maybe its because its fantasy and you need to flex a lot of imagination muscle to build the worlds in your head, I find myself not cheating on a book with other books. I’ve also been buying physical books again (yes, yes, very hipster), because I started to want a physical reminder of the worlds I’d traveled in, not to mention all the lovely maps and illustrations. Or maybe its just that I’ve gotten so lost reading Sanderson novels that my reading habits are forever altered, haha. That must be it.
  7. I love that, the campaign for Kholin rights to live. I can't make any promises...but I will be gentle...except for maybe if Elhokar's involved. A little roughhousing is for his own good...bwhahahahaha.
  8. Hmm, I personally thought their old site was pretty dated, so the refresh is pretty...refreshing. But I do miss the big, tall images, now they are shorter in the carousel, but the slides are nice so they can feature more artwork in rotation. The artwork is always so wonderful, so I wish they went even bigger! For the navigation, that is a style that is pretty trendy right now. (I work as a web designer, and I did something pretty similar on one of my last projects) But I think what makes it difficult is that there are 3 tiers of naviation. Typically to make that one work, you want to keep it simple with only 2 tiers, less rollover problems. But overall, I think its a step in the right direction, makes their brand feel modern and current. My first reaction to their old site was, "Do people still play Magic? Do I want to get into this?" This feels more legit, if you will.
  9. Oh wow, yes it is, thanks. :3 It's an original work, the full image is on tumblr here. I'm hoping to do some Stormlight fan art digitally like that soon, but so far I've only managed traditional (mostly because I want to hang it up in my apartment, haha, like, you know, a serial killer would, that's my goal...omg support group help me...).
  10. Awesome, awesome, will totally check that out. Looking forward to the non-stop nerd party with everyone! Haha, sorry I wasn't sure...I figured Lightsworn would sound more proper and polite. Smelly Bamboo Eater has a nice ring to it, it says "I'm not afraid to have an odor and get my grub on." People usually just call me Rei, as its sometimes hard to remember how to spell and even I don't know how to pronounce it.
  11. Yes, yes, totally agree. He was always an interesting bad dad because of how scared and paranoid of Zane he was. And Elend, yes! He would be great. Imagining him as a father never crossed my mind until now.
  12. Hmm...color me even more intrigued on Warbreaker... I will check out that section Ashiok, I'm a bit new to some of it but it sounds like a lot of fun!
  13. Hehe, *waves* thanks for the welcome shortycake! I'll look out for you on tumblr. Thanks for the recommendations, Elsa. I had put Steelheart more towards the end of my queue since I havent been in a YA-y mood recently, but I've heard good things so it sounds like one to get to. Ahhh, thanks (and thxxx ), Kobold! Another vote for Warbreaker, interesting. Looks like its gonna be a Summer of Sanderson for me, if only to hone my ahem...analytical skills. Very important. Haha, Cosmere for newbs. I'm curious, Lightsworn, what about Warbreaker makes it a good Cosmere intro? Or should I just read it and simply be enlightened? So, I'm very, very curious...what shades of geek are we dealing with here? I would love to know more about you guys and what makes a Sanderson fan tick! What are you into lately or even greatest of all time things? Books, music, video games, TV, anime, card/board games, hobbies, etc. I’ll nerd out over anything! For me, I am loving the fantasy genre, and Sanderson’s work is up there in the all time favorites for me. Outside of that, Hugh Howey’s Wool/Silo Series was a highlight, really wonderful story. For music, if prog rock=fantasy novels, then Steven Wilson is my Brandon Sanderson. Neverwinter Nights is one of my favorite games, I play a little Magic, but I am by no means any good at it...at all...haha…and I like my coffee with just a touch of cream, no sugar.

    Shallan

Shallan, I filled up the background with different items related to her character from the books. I always imagined Pattern as a weird mobius strip conundrum.

  16. Dalinar, definitely, he's got a nice balance of sterness/good fathery-ness mixed in with his flaws. But I also second the Sazed to Vin. There was a special sweetness in how Sazed was to Vin, especially when you consider he wouldn't be able to have his own kids. :')
  17. Lightweavers, mostly because Illumination is the most interesting surge for me at this point. I don't think I couldn't handle the nature/personality of the Truthwatchers, and seeing...things. But, crafting illusions, deceptions, being more the rogue and infiltrator seems like the best route. Although, my thoughts of how to use the surge started getting evil...maybe this isn't the one for me...lol
  18. Ooo, thanks all! Thanks Erai :3 From my recon I gathered that Elantris and Warbreaker would be good logical next steps. I only had Elantris on my radar but I was seeing a lot of talk about Warbreaker. So thanks for the suggestion, Ashiok! And that's really comforting, Delightful. I was a little scared of what these novels were doing to me, so it's very, very good to know I'm not alone, haha. I think the last maybe only time I tried a fan piece was of Ginny yeaaars ago and I got the eye color wrong and everything. That's why I need the support group, it's a wealth of reading comprehension win. And then some.
  19. Hello all, Not only am I new to being a fan of Brandon’s work, I’m also pretty new to actively participating as a fan in general. I usually like a thing, lurk about over it on the internet, read some fanfics, devour all the fan art, think about it every waking minute while not telling ANYONE about the obsession brewing in my head. Until now. Can’t keep it all in, had to join. From what I’ve gathered from all the forum stalking I’ve been doing for almost a year now, you all seem like very lovely folks! So far, I’ve read The Way of Kings, the Mistborn trilogy, and Words of Radiance. I’m currently reading The Black Prism by Brent Weeks to deal with the pain of WoR being over, haha, but was planning to take on The Alloy of Law as my next Sanderson book. Do you guys have any suggestions for which book to take on next? I’m sure, like a lot of you, finding out about the Cosmere sorta blew the lid for me. I’m excited to read more! I’ve also been pretty actively creating fan art, only Stormlight stuff at the moment. You can find my most recent work and sketches on tumblr, but I’m also on deviantart. I’ll try to add some of my finished pieces to the gallery when I get a chance. I have to say I just...I’ve never felt so totally obsessed with any book or series or anything as to really make a habit of making art for it. There are some truly wonderful artists here, I’m forever inspired by everyone. *sigh* I look forward to being part of this...Cosmere Support Group. Stormfather knows I need you, haha!
