  1. Anyone else see this connection? Honor surprised that spren created KR in a way similar to how he created Heralds, Heralds presumably created by or as part of Oathpact, and now this spren-talk of a broaken oath by humans? There is some serious swearing going on here (pun intanded).....
  2. How about this: I have somewhere read the theory that there were five Cultivation orders and five Honor orders of KR. It may be, however, that each order had C-access to one surge and H-access to the other, with no overlaps (e.g. Shallan would be soulcasting via C with her other surge accessed via H and Jasnah would have a C-surge and H-soulcasting). I hope I'm making sense and apologize if not.
  3. Unsure if gibberish should be included. Did include gibletish: So: Nonsense. Balderdash. Figgldygrak. Gibletish. Lo, Rysn finds big Shardblade in salt-egg-keg, eh?! Salt-eggs are probably a rare delicacy on Roshar (I'm imagining something like sole eggs here), of which Rysn will acquire a keg, in which she will discover said Shardblade. That must be it. I'm sure about it. In fact, sure enough that if it turns out wrong, I'll eat a cheeseburger. That's right! Kurk can record this! I'm so excited about this discovery! Edit: Removed swearing and included leftover letters.
  4. I solved it. We actually have to include "nonsense": "Kaglygrengse finds no Shardblade" I'm pretty sure that in the next book (or somewhere in the series) the character named Kaglygrengse will play an important role and be in bad need of a shardblade, but horrible things will happen because he can't find one. Also, it might be that this is not the actual spelling of the name. Could be two words: Kaglyg Rengse. Sounds Makabaki. Or maybe Horneater-ish. Edit: How could I be so blind! It's Rysn from the interludes! I assume her second name is Galgkege or something close. Nonsense. Balderdash. Figgldygrak. Rysn Galgkege finds no Shardblade.
  5. Sure, but it is past time [...] to awaken for those first four, not only tying them together more tightly than simply mentioning them in the same paragraph, but also implying (imo) that they belong to the same group. Edit: spelling
  6. You are sure right about the names of the orders. It still like the idea of an order not following this rule better than a non-Radiant listed with Radiants in such a manner (don't know if I'm making sense right now). We shall see.
  7. Are you sure? This seems like listing of new Radiants and the Radiants of old were all human, so Eshonai doesn't fit (not sure who does, maybe Jasnah?). Edit: I'm assuming here that "Explorers" is an order of KR unheard of as of yet. As to the Bondsmith, Dalinar sounds better to me, can't say why. No idea if/how either fits the born in blood and death part....
  8. Sorry Aether, but this is not entirely true. While - to the best of my knowledge - you are right as far as earth-human hair color is concerned (I really don't have the time to check this though), the question went a little further than that: Any earth genetics. So the answer should definitely be yes. I really don't want to turn this into a discussion or (worse) a lecture on advanced genetics (well, I'd actually love to but I don't want to bore or, worse, offend anybody), but there are several mechanisms that could lead to this outcome. It happens in female cats all the time (has to do with X-chromosome inactivation). Sure, Adolin is male, but then genetic sex-determination could work differently for Rosharan humans than for earth humans (and cats) - for example like in earth fruit flys (where the ratio of chromosomes determines gender) or in earth turtles (where it is all about temperature). Also, chromosome inactivation does not only occur in sex chromosomes - you might have heard about Prader-Willi syndrome or similar genetic disorders. Also, I can imagine other mechanisms for this to occur (I won't go into detail now, because I'd have to research the topic quite a bit to do so and really don't have the time). My point is: The fact (if it even is a fact) that this doesn't occur for earth-human hair color genes shouldn't make us jump to the conclusion that genetics on Roshar are a wholly different thing than on earth - it might just as easily be a little different than in earth-humans but based on all the same principles and mechanisms. Edit: Actually, Prader-Willi syndrome is not about whole chromosome inactivation but about imprinting, which is similar but different. Just for correctness' sake. Doesn't alter any of the above.
  9. Actually, it was funny. Very much so. Made me laugh hard enough that more than a few heads on the train to work were turned my way. So thanks for embarassing me in public....
  10. Let's play this through: Since we don't know any better, we have to assume earth-human genetics. In that case, sex-linked recessive has to mean X-linked recessive (Y-linked wouldn't make sense). If that were the case, a lighteyed woman and a darkeyed man would always have lighteyed sons and darkeyed daughters. I cannot imagine this going unnoticed, even though it gets more complicated if the couple consists of a lighteyed man and darkeyed woman. Also, the way I read Kaladin's flashback, it seems to be a rather rare occurance for a mixed couple to have lighteyed children, something that can sometimes happen, nothing on a regular basis. On the other hand, if the inheritance pattern were autosomal ("normal") recessive, it doesn't matter anymore which partner is lighteyed, the only thing that matters for the possibility for lighteyed offspring is if the darkeyed partner descended from a mixed couple himself. We also have to take into account the whole dahn-nahn business. Only a highranking darkeyes can marry a lighteyes and even the darkeyed children of such a couple would in turn be highranking enough to marry a (lowranking) lighteyes (and would certainly strive to do so, very Alethi that). So, even if there is a (25%) chance for a darkeyed couple to have a lighteyed child if both partners in turn stem from mixed couples, it might just be rare enough not to be common knowledge. Same goes for prostitution: I don't know if we have any knowledge about contraception on Roshar, but it probably exists. If so, there might just be few enough children of prostitutes by lighteyes for random lighteyed offspring of darkeyed couples not to occur in the lower ranks (or to be too rare for most people to be aware of even the possibility). Of course, there is a good chance that the inheritance pattern is more complicated than that and/or that Roshar genetics works very different from earth genetics, maybe even entirely magical.
  11. Actually, I think they'd have figured it out pretty easily if it were sex-linked (however, I do genetics for a living, so "easy" for me might not be so easy for somebody else; I still think so). Light eyes being the recessive phenotype makes much more sense. That way, lighteyes could only have lighteyed children and a mixed couple could sometimes have a lighteyed child as well (if the darkeyed partner were himself the darkeyed offspring from a mixed couple). Only problem with that is: A darkeyed couple where both parents descend from mixed couples could have a lighteyed child. I don't know if this is reported though.
  12. 1. Yes 2. Pass (don't really care) 3. Too late 4. Yes 5. Pass (don't care at all)
  13. I really didn't want this to sound the way it apperantly did. All I was asking for was a little confirmation that it hasn't been forgotten, that it is somewhere in the coming. Maybe give a little reminder, but certainly no criticism! By no means! I sincerely apologize to everybody for bringing this across so poorly! Please, just blame it on me not being a native English speaker.
  14. OK, not complaining or anything, because it's awsome you're doing this at all, but could you maybe clarify "pretty soon", because it's been a month now...
  15. Thanks for the information! Though there isn't much point in discussing since Peter's statement, I strongly disagree: For one thing, there could be great stories set before DE, for another, there could be more about the "lifting of the veil" and for a third, "Realpolitik" doesn't sound bad at all (to me), if written in such a great SF-setting and by such a great author as Brandon. Just to state my pointless point.
  16. Don't want to start a new thread for this, rather ask in this old one: Has anybody information on if/when Brandon plans to return to this world? I'd certainly like a longer story in this universe, even though i usually prefer fantasy over SF and cosmere over non-cosmere. This was just so great (same goes for Legion, loved that one as well)!
  17. Yeah, that's how I read it too. Well, I didn't read anything into this, except what it says, which is plainly that it might be delayed further or Brandon might be able to hit the old Jan-release date, or the new Mar date might stick, all depending on revisions. Me too! Go researchers! That is exactly the way I feel about this delay.
  18. This is exactly what I am assuming. My guess (which obviously might be terribly wrong) is that there will be one (or more) voidbringer attack(s) previous to this exchange or at least some kind of voidbringer-human encounter. Also, I cannot begin to describe how excited this prospect possibility has me.
  19. That's great, thank you very much!
  20. Isn't this theory? Could you provide us with a quote? I hadn't realized that Brandon confirmed that the two shards are one now. Wouldn't that mean if somebody held all the shards, Adonalsium would be "reforged"?
  21. Thank you kindly for that quote and info!
  22. Where did you get this from, if I may ask? Or ist this just a baseless assumtion?
  23. I actually hope not. I think that it will be much more enjoyble to read this and have the context explained in a later flashback, not in the same one.
  24. I know, I know, it has been discussed in another thread, but I'd like this one to be only about that specific reading. So, my two cents on that: Everybody seems to think that the "No... no... This affection wasn't right. A monster should not be held in love, a monster who killed, who murdered. No... But she could not move." part means "Shallan doesn't understand why her father still loves her". When I read the scene, however, I got the impression that quite the opposite is the case. To me, this reads like her father did all (or most of) the killing and she's trying to suppress HER affection for HIM. Maybe this was the event leading up to her killing him ("mother" would obviously have to be her stepmother in that case). While, on reflection, I came to the conclusion that in all likeliness my first interpretation was wrong and the common one is right, I could find no evidence. That's why I'm putting it out there. Oh and if it turns out true, I claim this as my theory Just a quick note on the safe: I'm on the soulcaster/other fabrial train. Probably another fabrial. One that's powered by an enourmous gemstone, to shine so brightly. And one that's capable of pretty awful things.
