  1. Another minor thing I noticed: Kaladin was able to send a glyph, so he must have been able to sneak back the spanreed and send a message without the parshendi or the yellow spren noticing.
  2. So assuming that first death rattle refers to an Unmade, and because we know Nergaoul is responsible for the thrill, maybe all or at least some of the Unmade exercise their powers by manipulating rhythms somehow? *Edited since I had the wrong Unmade for the thrill
  3. Also, I don't think we knew that the Unmade (assuming that's what it is) mimics the killer, as well as recreating the murder. I'm guessing that Shallan will somehow discover who killed Perel and will notice they look suspiciously similar to Adolin...
  4. I noticed this too! Maybe the thrill works by somehow allowing humans to attune a rhythm? Like the rhythm of rage or something.
  5. Seems like her spren knows.
  6. Thanks for the responses! Dalinar's memories of Evi being connected to his time as the Blackthorn does make sense. Also, I'm wondering how/why the voidspren is so intelligent? All the radiantspren we've seen get their brains scrambled when they cross over from cognitive->physical, and it's the bond with their human that allows them to regain sentience. As far as I can tell, the yellow voidspren doesn't have a bond with anything, so it must work differently for them. Or it's just too early too tell.
  7. The last line was a little confusing to me, what is the fresh, dangerous perspective?
  8. Confirmation that Shallan being creeped out by Urithiru is something real! I'm guessing it's related to whatever is causing the copycat murders. Also, I think Mraize will tell her that Kaladin was the one who killed Helaran and it will cause all sorts of conflict!
  9. Also, I think Szeth is more of an honorary Skybreaker as he (as far as we know), hasn't bonded a highspren but instead has a bond with Nightblood. I believe there's a WoB floating around that his bond with Nightblood should grant him some sort of powers, or at least that Nightblood thinks he can grant access to some of the surges. I doubt Szeth will end up with gravitation and division though.
  10. I think the reason Lift's boon/curse hasn't been messed with as a result of her bond with Wyndle is because whatever the Nightwatcher did doesn't directly relate to or interfere with what broke her soul. We don't know what exactly the Nightwatcher did to Dalinar, but my guess is either the boon or the curse resulted in him forgetting the events that caused his soul to crack. Those cracks are what allowed him to eventually become a KR, even if he doesn't remember them. As he bonds with the Stormfather, investiture begins to fill in and interfere with the Nightwatcher's effects. As examples, take the guy who went to the Nightwatcher and got a bunch of cloth in return for seeing upside down. I think if he had some traumatic event happen later in life that allowed him to bond a spren, it would not result in anything changing for him. The cloth or the money he got for it wouldn't disappear, and he wouldn't go back to seeing right-side-up (probably). That's more like Lift. But, hypothetically, say Kaladin somehow decided to go see the Nightwatcher and asked to forget about Tien's death, Amaram's betrayal, and his time as a slave. The Nightwatcher chops off a piece of his sDNA, removes his connection to those people/events, or does whatever she does to make him forget. Assuming he still manages to attract and bond with Syl, as their bond strengthens it would begin to interfere in a similar way as to what's happening with Dalinar. I think I agree with your analogy @Salkara. Also, I don't think it's necessarily sucking in the stormlight or the surgebinding that's causing Dalinar to regain his memory. I think those are all symptoms of his bond with the Stormfather getting stronger. It allows him to easily suck in stormlight (Kaladin struggled with this when his bond with Syl weakened), lets him Surgebind (Kaladin and Shallan weren't able to surgebind until they reached a certain "level"), and is now to the point where it's interfering with his specific boon/curse.
  11. It's interesting to me that Dalinar's first clear memories of Evi return after he surgebinds for the first time, although we've seen his memory improving since he first remember part of the Rift scene. I'm wondering if his increasing bond with the Stormfather is somehow interfering with the Nightwatcher's powers. We know that investiture interferes with/resists other investiture. Maybe as the cracks in Dalinar's soul are filled from his nahel bond it's pushing out or rejecting whatever it is the Nightwatcher did to him.
  12. It's mentioned in Navani's notebook if you seen the translations from @Harakeke a few years ago.
  13. Nightblood was created as an attempt to replicate shardblades so it's no wonder they're similar.
  14. Definitely interested to learn about the yellow spren keeping watch with the Listeners/Voidbringers
  15. @CalderisOne reason I think Mr. T might have room to become a Bondsmith and to remain a villain-ish character is because each Bondsmith bonds a unique spren. I can't remember where exactly, but I'm pretty sure Syl mentions that all spren of the same type are essentially the same person. While we know there can be different oaths for different people in the same order, presumably all Windrunner oaths will be very similar and deal with protection and leadership - their divine attributes. That will give a lot of cohesion between members of the same order, and I think it can also be assumed that each individual spren of a given type will have similar or nearly identical interpretations of a given action. For example I assume all honorspren would disagree with Kaladin's choice to participate in the assassination of Elhokar for the greater good of Alethkar. By contrast, we know each Bondsmith bonds a unique, individual spren. That opens up much more room for interpretation on what sort of oaths conform to the Bondsmith divine attributes of pious and guiding. The Nightwatcher might have a very different idea of what it means to be pious and guiding than the Stormfather, and they might both disagree with whatever the third Bondsmith spren thinks agrees with those ideals. Finally, we have only to look at the behavior of the patron of the Bondsmiths, Ishar. We have this quote from WoR about the founding of the KR: I read this is saying that Ishar would destroy any surgebinder who refused to be bound by oaths. I don't know if that means killing them or something else, but that seems at least a little villainous to me. I can't see Dalinar threatening to destroy/kill any of the highprinces when they wouldn't behave like he wanted them to in tWoK, but I could see Mr. T doing that on the sly to preserve his reputation. And yet, Ishar is supposed to be a representation of the same ideals any Bondsmith would follow. Anyway, this post is long enough but I'd be curious to know what you think.
  16. @maxal One positive thing I could see happening for Adolin is he might end up training new KR's how to fight with shardblades. Assuming KR's start popping up en masse, there's going to be a bunch of people with shardblades who won't know how to use them, and Adolin is regarded as one of the best duelists in the world. I'm assuming this would be with cooperation from Zahel and the rest of the sword training ardents who were at the shattered plains. Reasons this might not be a good idea is Adolin already has enough on his plate with the investigation and now being highprince. Also, it might be difficult to teach/spar with KR's since his blade won't be able to shift form.
  17. And the timelines don't match up either. Adolin is far too young to be Tanalan's son, seeing as he would need to be ~40 now.
  18. Here's a crazy idea I just had. Everyone likes to speculate about this epigraph: We know now that some of the parshendi/voidbringers are heading to Kholinar, and we know that the ones in Azir are making "outrageous" demands. What if the parshendi end up putting Kholinar under siege and say they will only end it if the people execute Elohokar's son? If conditions in the city got bad enough they could potentially end up in a scenario fitting the epigraph.
  19. Here's the WoB I'm basing that on, courtesy of @Argent (spoilered for length) :
  20. Yeah, horses normally have rectangular or oval-shaped pupils.
  21. I always thought that Shallan's resonance was her ability to take "memories" of a scene perfectly. There's that epigraph in WoR that mentions the weird mnemonic abilities of the Lightweavers, which I think is a reference to their resonance.
  22. I'm no expert, but the 0.7G gravity ought to result in the atmospheric pressure dropping off more slowly with altitude than on earth. I'm not sure how much of an effect it would be though, but that might explain it.
  23. Oathbringer spoilers That makes me think that there is something special/different about Shinovar specifically, moreso than it just being far to the west where the storms are weaker.
  24. Here's the section from WoR where Shallan has Renarin try the oathgate first: Looks like the lock changes to fit the blades, regardless of whether they're dead or not.
  25. I've wondered if the warm light vision wasn't somehow related to Shallan. The WoR chapter 47 epigraph says which reminds me a bit of how Dalinar felt during/after that vision
