The final confrontation of the RP will be Funtimes chasing Lightwards around trying to get a hug. I'm glad you and Voidus like the change! I'll make it official, then. And the limited teleportation could always be given to a cannon fodder Epic, I suppose.

Yay! Awesome! Treachery! Anyway, I was thinking of introducing Aldo the Enigmatic here in the next post or so. Just show him carrying out his evening, deciding to visit the Museum on the next game day. But before I do, I was thinking of Edgedancer's comment of how his power set is a little generic. So I thought I'd propose a small change. Instead of teleportation, I was thinking of giving him the ability to alter the mass of an object by an order of magnitude. He lays his hand on an object, and he can increase its mass by ten, or reduce it by ten. He cannot use the power on the same object multiple times. He often reduces the size of large objects to make them more portable, or amplifies the mass of an object while he throws it to inflict ungodly amounts of damage on his enemies. How's that sound? He'd keep the deductive precognition, but this would replace his teleportation with something that complements his other power a little more nicely.

Well there are some pony codes for characters like Steelheart who don't specifically belong to one of the players, so that was why I thought a universal code compilation could come in handy. And I'd definitely be interested in getting my grubby little paws on the Nightwielder and Megan codes. I don't think you know enough about her character to pronounce such judgements. The constant snogging is driving Lightwards to madness faster than his deaths are.

Remington or Alice, maybe?

It's little things like this that make me wish time travel were easily attainable. So, this ones specifically directed at Voidus... since MLP seems to be a permanent part of the "What Happened in Oregon" community, should we have a ponycode compilation post on the "Epics of Oregon" thread?

We've been wanting to go for a while now; we learned that today was the last day our theater would be showing the feature, so we carpe diemed it. And yes--all things in this world require talking raccoons. I will make their introduction to all works of fiction my personal quest. SoulSwitch just became well over 20% cooler. I'd definitely recommend it. James Gunn really delivered on his concept.

Back now--and I most certainly had fun. To be completely honest, Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen, in or out of a theater. I give it two thumbs up--five stars--eleven party hats out of a possible ten. I am considering placing it in my "Favorite Movie EVER" slot, a place which I have long reserved for Steelheart: The Motion Picture. It really is that awesome. On an unrelated note, this RP could use more talking raccoons.

There are some comments that are so awesome, the thread lies dormant for hours because no one can top them. Heading to the movies now--gonna see me some space raccoons!

Please, Lightwards is a professional. A teacher-student relationship would be completely inappropriate. Besides, she already has Al. EDIT: I love the Megan pony too.

No sooner had he finished bringing up the concept of an alliance when the white lady half stood up from her seat, leaning eagerly over the table. “Uh-uh-uh," she began, apparently unsure of herself. "Does that mean I can get a dinosaur?” She looked quite taken by the idea, but leaned back when she felt the solemn looks being directed at her from around the table. “Sorry, I kind of destroyed the mood, didn´t I?" she said nervously, resuming her seated posture. "Okay getting back on topic, good questions… um... Who are those powerful Epics that work with you? Why would you want a bodyguard that literally fights like a cow? And what would happen, if your steak and mine where made from the same animal?" Lightwards stared at her, slightly confused. Clearly every Epic in Oregon was a mess of scrambled thoughts. Still though... she seemed like an exceptionally clever young woman. She alone out of their group had realized why he had the steak, and her question about his powers was intriguing. He didn't even know the answer to it. She reminded him of a couple of students he'd taught--flighty and ditzy at times, but possessed of a sharp intellect under the dim appearance. Of course, dim in her case was entirely metaphorical; he'd seldom seen a woman with such a bright white appearance. So he gave the girl a smile. "Well thought out questions," he told her warmly. "Personal dinosaurs are reserved for my inner circle of allies. Of course, if you wished to stay at our museum as an emissary, we could set up arrangements... what are you called?"

Glad my hard labor (of four minutes) is appreciated. I'm putting together a couple of other ponies from the novel. I'm thinking of giving David a drop of blood as his cutie mark--he got it when the bank was destroyed, and he decided what his special talent would be. EDIT: I'm going to the theater to see Guardians of the Galaxy, but I'll try to get another Lightwards post up sometime today.

I don't know. It would be fun to completely overshadow Altermind by jabbering about dinosaurs to his assistant, but I don't know how Mailliw would feel about that... In the meantime, I've seen Steelhoof bleed. And I will see him bleed again.
-
Steelhoof's city, of course, is Neighcago. The sacrifices we make for romance.
-
It seems the Empire recruited the wrong Edgedancer character. Lightwards would have much preferred Voidgaze to Nighthound. On a side note, Oregon places names are getting hard to ponify. Portmane and Tillahoof are easy, but how do you ponify Oregon itself?
-
When he raises human bodies, including himself, he still leaves splatters of blood behind. I would say that organic matter would remain distinct from the resurrected Warrior, but that he wouldn't be able to raise them. So, if he and Voidgaze's steaks came from the same cow, he could raise his own and Voidgaze's meal would remain separate. But he would fail if he tried to use his power on her steak. Remember that fossils aren't actually bones. Sometimes when an animal dies, sediment and other inorganic substances form an impression around the body, and the inorganic impression is what gets left behind as a fossil. He was able to raise dinosaur "skeletons" because of microscopic protein fragments preserved within the stone.
-
It would essentially be gifting the same power to the same person multiple times. I don't know of anything stopping it, but we have no evidence to support that such a thing would be possible. By the way, would it be out of line for Lightwards to offer Voidgaze a job with the Empire, offering her own dinosaur?
-
Voidgaze makes an interesting point. What would happen if Lightwards tried to resurrect two steaks from the same cow?
-
Yeah, and his power base is pretty much an unconventional combination of confirmed powers in-universe. Gifting + self-resurrection = necromancer professor with armies of zombies. It's just simple logic.

Altermind proceeded to succinctly summarize the man named CorpseMaker. Lightwards grew more and more troubled as the list of powers and assets went on and on. This was not a tyrant in miniature like the museum quartet. This was the description of a god among Epics--a man who could take whatever he pleased without fear from anyone. An immortal warlord who could kill with a glare, or could simply summon up armies to do the slaughtering for him. Taking over the city was going to be more difficult than Lightwards had anticipated. Soon the waiter brought Altermind's chicken, and the telekinetic dug into it hungrily. Nearby, a woman screamed at her table, clutching her foot as if someone had stabbed it with a knife. Lightwards was irritated by the commotion, but Altermind merely laughed. The woman stopped abruptly as her companions fussed over her, casting nervous glances to see if they had annoyed their Epic neighbors. Altermind did that, Lightwards thought suddenly. He's an illusionist. A sensation of pain should be well within the scope of his powers. Undoubtedly the mental Epic had done this at least partially to show him what he was capable of. Partially, at least--he'd seemed to find genuine mirth in inflicting the random pain. I do seem to seek out the most delightful company, Lightwards brooded irritably. The waiter returned bearing a platter with a large well-cooked steak and a side of baked potato, topped with cheese and sour cream that by all rights shouldn't have been so readily available. Lightwards pushed the steak to one side of his plate and eagerly consumed the potato. Pure heaven. He almost closed his eyes in satisfaction. Cooked to just the right degree of softness, mixed with butter, sprinkled with fine cheddar cheese. He'd much rather concentrate on the potato, but instead he forced himself to concentrate on his sociopathic neighbor. "It seems you can be perfectly excused on your dislike for the man," Lightwards said with a smile. "I'm beginning to see ways in which we might be able to help one another. You call your land Thoughttown--I assume that you are a man of thought and ambition. But it seems clear to me that nothing of value can be accomplished in this city so long as an invincible tyrant like CorpseMaker runs free." He crammed another bite of potato in his mouth. "You are firmly established here--you have much knowledge and greater resources than I can conceive of, I am sure. My faction is new, but it encompasses some of the most powerful Epics I have encountered on the west coast. If we were to arrange a truce--perhaps even an alliance--I cannot imagine CorpseMaker causing much mischief against us."
-
The book actually says that? Dang. It's going to be rather annoying if the series concludes and proves that all of these Epics were impossible within the universe's rules because of subtle details about Calamity we don't know about it. Obviously the series and the RP will both still be awesome, but an annoying factor will spawn nonetheless.
-
I'd just like to point out that terms like "prime invincibility" were coined by David, and are thus highly unlikely to be in common usage among Oregon's Epics. I'm re-reading the novel right now and it's subtly admonishing me on things like this. I'm pretty sure I've used "prime invincibility" and "High Epic" both in Lightwards' POV scenes.

A Selection from My Untitled WIP
Kobold King replied to TwiLyghtSansSparkles's topic in Creator's Corner
I quite like it. I'm not good at detailed reviews, but I can definitely say that this captured my interest. The selection raises a great deal of questions, in particular concerning the nature of Susan Gillespie and Charles Whitelaw. There's very clearly a bit of background that the reader has not been told, and it sets up a backdrop of mystery that makes the reader wish to read on and put the pieces together. The newspaper column at the beginning was very intriguing, and does wonders to set up the basic details of the setting. It certainly makes me wonder whatever happened to Cole Gretzer and whether he will be appearing later on in the narrative. The writing style itself is superb, echoing the same excellent use of scenery and eye-catching details we have seen in your RP posts. It is clear that the weightiest dialogue is contained within Susan and Whitelaw's brief discussion, but Susan's interactions with the server seem to hint at potential unpleasantness within the Davenport Hotel, and serve to move the story along quite nicely. All things considered, I find it an intriguing and enjoyable tidbit that leaves me very excited at the prospect of seeing more. -
Algaze is the ship that's come the closest to being officially confirmed. Still difficult finding a song for Scorch. What about this?
-
Two more questions: 1. Does Lightwards' resurrection count as a passive ability? Could CorpseMaker negate it? 2. Is Altermind trying to get into the "Creeps of Oregon" club? Because injecting illusions of pain into random people in a restaurant is kind of twisted.
-
A cow and a deer would be pushing it, and would leave him completely exhausted. But it's doable. Too late. Already wrote it in. (granted, I have no authority over Al's actions, so the post can be edited if deemed appropriate.)
