Mid-Range Game 2: Servants of Honor
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Renegade's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Twlv caught the movement in the corner of his eye, and glanced over. A crumpled ball of paper was quickly disappearing in the fireplace. A strange man - presumably the paper's owner - watched it for a moment, then looked towards the counter. Another storming traveller, and this one clearly educated. That made another person to avoid. He'd been in Telmont for several months now, enough to recognise the new folk on sight. And there were far too many of those for his liking. His deal with Quismet was comfortable, but it might be time to move on. He caught the arm of a passing serving girl. 'Tell Quismet the eaves're clean, and her ladder's beside the door round the back. And 'er chisel bent, and she owes me two clearmarks for the new one.' The girl nodded. 'And take my meal up to the loft, I'll eat private tonight.' He let her go, watching as she picked up the urchin's cleaned bowl. There was another one to be wary of, though for quite different reasons. The chisel had only cost one mark, but he'd take everything he could get. The stash he'd escaped with was dwindling faster than he would have liked. Storming lordling. The bandits had been bad enough. But even though the mercenary salvage team had been Feradel's suggestion, the storming man had paid him less for the wine than they'd cost to hire. And then the lord went and died the night the wine was opened, and the new Lord Feradel decided the wine had been poisoned. The man was old! And even if it was poison, then surely it was the bandits. No respectable merchant would kill his clients. At least, not intentionally. He'd left the city that night, keeping the spheres he'd promised the mercenaries upon the shipment's safe return. Behind him were his debt to Belm for the mercenaries, another to Masah for purchasing the wine, and Feradel wanting to throw him in a dungeon to rot. How could he know which of the new folk might give him away? -
Mid-Range Game 2: Servants of Honor
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Renegade's topic in Sanderson Elimination
A familiar voice drifted up the street, and Twlv cursed under his breath. He ducked around the back of the nearest building, leaving his ladder and tools where they were. Hopefully they wouldn't notice. '...next shipment. Belm thinks he will like...' He only caught a moment of conversation, before the winds changed again and the words became indistinguishable. But it was enough of a reminder to send a chill down his spine. It was just his storming luck to end up in the same hamlet as that 'Legitimate Businessman' Wurum. Associating with a smuggler was bad enough, but this one seemed to know one of Twlv's former contacts. Valath had been a frontman for this Belm, and had been about the only moneychanger Twlv could find who was willing to give him a loan. Which...well, if it had gone well, he wouldn't be here, would he? Well, he hadn't escaped Wurum's notice entirely, but he could at least keep out of the way as much as possible. Maybe pretend he was retired, do some odd jobs. Not like he had a reputation to worry about if he started dabbling on the wrong side of the law. -

No RP yet, just signing up. Twlv is a terrible merchant from Thalath - so bad he's hiding from his creditors in this backwater. -

Long Game 7: The Annealing of Luthadel
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Racine slid her glasses off her nose. No need to pretend she needed them any more. She looked slowly around the gathering of nobles. The accusations against her had been flying wildly, and now it seemed the nobles were divided. Some called for her to be cast to the Canton; others were adamant that she had been falsely accused, and spoke up in her defence. And there seemed to be a sizeable group who were simply staring at her, waiting for a response. Burning Tin, she could see her son, Terin, deep in conversation with another man she didn't recognise. He kept glancing her way and frowning. Naturally, the accusations against her had cast him into doubt as well. It would be a shame to see her family ruined because of this mess. She smiled. She always smiled. One of her loudest detractors was not too far away. His navy suit was rumpled, and above the smells of perfume and food she could make out his characteristic horse odour. It seemed he believed himself above the whims of fashion, but she knew better. The louder one announced they were not playing a game, the deeper they sank into it. "There is one thing I don't quite understand, Master A'Lees. It is all well and good to think that Tonul and myself are your enemies, and to call for our deaths is - if perhaps a little extreme - understandable. I note, though, that you have not truly committed yourself to this cause. Why hesitate? Are you not sure which way the crowd will go?" It's tricky to distinguish between what Meta said and an actual vote, in RP at least. In case it's not clear: Meta, if Tonul and I are 99% certain to be Skaa, why not vote for either of us? Ashiok, to answer your question to the best of my knowledge: I went to the Informant and put in that I was a Tineye. I received information in return, one of which was Kas' target. I did not open a PM with anyone. I was hit by a Coinshot.- 657 replies

My apologies, Kas. I felt I had to reveal at least one of the facts I'd learned for collective scrutiny. (My initial reaction was to reveal both, which is what I meant by limiting what I gave out.) I thought there was more sensitive information contained in the other fact, but Wyrm has refuted this (not in public) between my original post and this one.- 657 replies

Here I am. For the record, I put in my metal (Tonul is correct, I'm a Tineye). I'd prefer to limit the informant information I give out in public, but I will say that I asked about Kas and got back that he used his metal on Gamma. I'm surprised at the amount of attention that's been thrown on me. We've established that I didn't mess with my own vote, and you now know I gave truth to the informant. Not sure what else you would like me to offer.- 657 replies

Thankyou Gamma. I would retract my vote, but...well I think we can break the skaa kill into three broad categories: 1) House Power manipulation Any kill on a House Lord will probably qualify as this. Also, any kill on a non-Lord member of an infiltrated Great House. (Particularly the case for the Semi-Great Houses, since with fewer people it will be faster to take them out.) 2) Power threat If the skaa have managed to learn of a dangerous metal, via house docs or (somehow) in the thread. This will be most likely someone in an infiltrated Lesser House, as killing someone in a Greater House who has revealed their power will alert all the other members. 3) Political Either killing someone saying dangerous things, or setting up someone else. To my knowledge, this is the standard day 1 kill.- 657 replies

Long Game 7: The Annealing of Luthadel
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Personally, I think RP has a lot more reason to it than random actions. (Didn't you vote Fien as soon as the game started, Meta? Or was there more reasoning there than your RP feud?) After all, flavour and worldbuilding inform the rules. Why shouldn't characterisation inform our actions, if it's not hugely detrimental to the game? So I didn't jump on Tonul's actions at first. But after seeing Meta's first post, something else occurred to me from Gamma's actions - namely, how he stuck to his vote for Ashette. I've noticed there's two types of lynch votes: the ones where you actually want a lynch, and the ones where you just want an answer. Normally the latter kind get retracted when an answer is given, whether or not it's satisfactory, unless the voter has decided they're an eliminator. So Fien, why keep your vote on Ashette if you didn't think she was Skaa? Were you aiming to scare her straight? This is supposed to be a vote seeking an answer, but I'm not sure if I'll be on again before the rollover. So please don't everybody suddenly decide to bandwagon Gamma! I certainly don't want him lynched just on this flimsy evidence.- 657 replies

If the known house lords don't participate, I think the only sensitive information that is revealed is that none of the posters are in the same house. So we need to decide whether revealing that information is worth the absolute certainty of number of houses. Personally, I agree with Joe. We have a pretty good assessment of how many houses there are; we don't stand to gain much. Edit: blue- 657 replies

By my count, the following people haven't posted: Kaldin Fathvell (Kal Dell) Wandrin Nuvidas (New One) Cadri Raisaal (Shivertongue) Jae Kastner (jaelre) Cat Lekal (luckat) Of those, there are votes on Kaldin and Jae, and a comment towards Wandrin. I'll put my vote on Cadri Raisaal for the moment, since she's first on the list.- 657 replies

Racine pointed Kasha forward, and the crowd around the new Lord Heron parted to let them through. That was another advantage of the wheelchair; people were always willing to move out of the way. At the young lady's side, Racine leaned forward, squinting. She didn't recognise the face. Hardly surprising - the young lady would have only just arrived on the noble scene as Racine had been leaving, if she'd been there at all. "Such a shame," she said, looking up. "If only we solved our problems with words, rather than swords." And assassins, too, though she wouldn't mention that. Looking to Lord Heron, she smiled. "Although, this is exactly what we are here to do, is it not? Debate, discuss, and find those who would do us harm." "Now, I've heard some accusations flying around. Mesist I understand -" she'd observed the argument between him and Urbain "- but Master Fain, could you perhaps articulate your doubts of Master Izenry? I'm sure we would all be most interested to hear your reasons. Or were your actions merely intended to 'stir the pot'?" She smiled at the young man she had addressed. She'd had a good feeling about this party, and now she was proven right. I'm with Kas here; scheming in our docs is only going to help the skaa. If we think as houses, rather than nobles vs skaa, we're in a lot of trouble.- 657 replies

Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Douza swung in a wide arc, and as he'd hoped, the trolloc in front of him flinched and drew back. The one to his side saw the opening, though, and lunged forward. His chainmail turned the sword, but he was forced back a few steps. That put him in reach of the third, chest crushed but not quite dead, who caught his ankle and sent him sprawling. He scrambled away , barely avoiding a skull-crushing blow from the first trolloc. That gave him enough room to get to his feet. But the creature was between him and his hammer. It grinned, dropping the crude wooden club, and picking up the beautiful hammer. His father's hammer. Douza turned and ran. He shouldn't have come alone. He should have stuck with Witless and Newan, or followed Rishi as soon as she'd run off. Not go after her now, when the shadowspawn had moved in to block his path. What was he thinking? He caught sight of Witless and Newan ahead. Newan's bat-horse - a raken - had been hit, and couldn't fly, so now Witless was holding the attackers at bay while Newan, perched on a crumbling wall, rained down arrows. Douza glanced behind. The two trollocs were following, but slowly, unused to the hammer's weight. He had time. Scrambling onto the debris of a building - he'd lost track of where he was - he glanced around. Lots of rubble, but he couldn't throw for anything. He needed - There. A rafter, splintered at one end, but still good and long. He yanked it free, and dashed to help Witless. Rishi would have to wait. Suddenly a soft light bathed the street, and the villagers and shadowspawn hesitated, looking to the source. It was a glowing, humanlike figure. There were trollocs aplenty, faceless men in black armour, and even strange flying creatures, but none of them had glowed. What was this new enemy? "Douza, Newan, Witless. Today we fight. Today we - " He recognised Malai's voice. The shadowspawn weren't enough; now they were fighting the dead too? He swung his rafter at the ghost, as hard as he could. The wood passed straight through, which threw him off balance. When he looked up again, the ghost - oblivious to his attack - had a sword. He swallowed and backed away, holding the rafter before him. But the ghost swung at the trollocs. They fell, twitching, but seemingly unharmed. A ghostly horse appeared, and Malai leaped onto its back, charging into the massed shadowspawn. The creatures died wherever she turned her sword. If the dead were here - and fighting - perhaps they had a chance after all. Douza whooped, and charged the two trollocs with his hammer. They were suddenly looking afraid.- 503 replies

Long Game 7: The Annealing of Luthadel

"Racine Morinthe," she said to the doorman with a smile. Kasha, her steward, wheeled her away from the door and into the great hall, and she took in her surroundings with appreciation. The colour, the light, the hubbub of conversation - it was so nice to be back in the noble scene. "Shall I find Terin, ma'am?" "No need. Take me out towards the centre; I'm sure he will notice soon enough." Kasha obliged, pushing the wheeled chair towards the thickest throng of people. The chair was invaluable; without it, arthritis would leave her confined to her quarters. She had seen the craftsman paid handsomely. As expected, she had not moved far before being interrupted. A portly man with grey hair at his temples approached her rapidly. "Mother," he said, red-faced. "I...was not expecting your company tonight." "I apologise for not informing you, Terin. It was a hasty decision," she lied. "But one I am glad I made." "Everything is in hand, I assure you. Why - " "I'm sure, I'm sure. Just humour your mother, will you? I won't pry too deeply into your affairs, I promise." Terin leaned in. "The nobles' game has changed, Mother." She laughed. "If you're implying that I'm too old to learn new rules, I think I'll surprise you. After all, I do so love any game where your opponent can believe he is about to win...just before you kill him. Now, be a good boy and point me to your table, so I can avoid it." Terin sighed and walked off, gesturing vaguely towards where she assumed he would be sitting. Racine pointed Kasha in a different direction. "Find something to the side. Open enough that I may be seen, but not so much I will be approached from all directions." Kasha nodded - at least she assumed he did - and wheeled her away. TLDR: Racine Morinthe, old woman in a wheelchair, hasn't been to a party in a while.- 657 replies

Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The shadowspawn had backed off. Maybe they'd been surprised by the villagers' ferocity, or maybe they just didn't like daylight. Hopefully the latter, which would mean they had all day to rebuild their defences. There were few enough of them that they had no chance of holding the town; if they focused their efforts on the Waffle House and the old town hall, maybe they could hold out for another night. Or not. There was no sign of Leas Fel anywhere. Not only had they lost a key fighter, but their leadership now consisted of a fool for a Mayor and a drunkard gambler. Originally Douza had assumed the trollocs had beaten him down after they had become separated in the fighting, but that felt...wrong. And Newan hadn't seen a body from the air. Why would the trollocs hide the body? No, this was Trimat's work. Somehow the manure salesman had escaped his chains. Douza left his hammer at the cellar's entrance and wearily descended the steps. He didn't know what he expected to find - empty cuffs, maybe, or a hole in the wall where he'd affixed the chain. How had he escaped? Maybe - Trimat was there. Douza stood, transfixed, then crossed the room in a few strides and pinned the salesman bodily against the wall. "You - how!?" Trimat just stared back at him, eyes wide. Suddenly conscious of being stabbed by a hidden knife, Douza stepped back, and Trimat crumpled to the floor. He caught the man's wrists as he fell. The cuffs looked fine; bolts fixed, pins in place, metal unbent, chain secure. He reached up and tugged a few times where the chain was fixed to the wall. No, that was secure too. Douza scowled, and walked back up the steps. Must have been magic. There was far too much of that around the town. Emerging from the ruins, he turned to Rishi, who was hugging one of her brothers. "Trimat's no help to us. I say we throw him to the trollocs next time they come." Edit: It was an axe. But I like the hammer better, so thanks for the retcon.- 503 replies

twelfthrootoftwo replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The manacles had been a secret commission from the old innkeeper, before his mistaken execution. Douza had kept them in the hope that they could catch Mayor Twim's killers- well, with any luck they had fulfilled that role now. The town was convinced that the manure salesman was one of these 'Darkfriends.' A magic collar would have been better, but the strange drunkard had insisted it wouldn't work. Something about...ter-angles? Like the horrible things he'd had to pull from the rubble of Dellan's house? Still, one lightning-summoner was useful. Even if it was that stranger controlling her, not one of the proper townsfolk. All in all, he was surprised how calm he felt. He'd been frightened that morning, even with Newan flying ahead to make sure the way to Dellan's house was clear. But killing three trollocs on the way back had done a lot to steady his nerve. Feeling a skull split under his axe was strangely...satisfying. There wasn't much left of the town, aside from a lot of rubble and barely one-quarter of the people - but that was more than enough to leave a few shadowspawn corpses for the next traveller to find. Time to fight, even if they couldn't survive.- 503 replies

Khamsi being masked on night 3 doesn't exonerate her in my books, since Forsaken being inactive would be very telling then. Is there info about Khamsi that hasn't been made public/that I've missed? To my knowledge, we've only definitely seen a water weave on her - which just means the DF have a chaneller, not that it's her. Since I wasn't on the suspect list of night 4, I'm guessing my fang votes have checked out. I haven't been as active in PMs as most players, so there's not that much I can offer in sorting out the DF. But they were willing to sacrifice Trimat to the lynch last cycle, so I'd say his role is one that's no longer useful (ie not Forsaken).- 503 replies

I can't speak for Grimlah. I'm in no PMs with him, so everything I know about his playstyle comes from what's publicly available in the thread. I can, however, speak for myself. If I were in that position - being accused by a logically presented argument that attracted attention in the thread - I would largely have done what he did. Present a counter-argument, also in the thread, covering everything possible and specifically referring to the accuser and their logic. If the accuser attempted to contact me privately, I would discuss any issues they brought up, but would not defend myself beyond referring to my post. Not answering a PM at all is strange. That the Forsaken didn't kill immediately following the accusation is also notable (though that alone doesn't narrow the candidates to one). So I'm not saying Grimlah is definitely innocent, just arguing one point. edit: blue- 503 replies
