Well, I am happy to have been a part of this in some way. Well done to all of you out there who are way better at this than I

O b v i o u s l y t h e y are fools The Desolation needs no usher It can and will sit where it wishes and the signs are obvious that the spren anticipate it doing so soon The Ancient of Stones must finally begin to crack It is a wonder that upon his will rested the prosperity and peace of a world for over four millennia Sanderson, Brandon (2014-03-04). Words of Radiance (Stormlight Archive, The) (p. 998). Tom Doherty Associates. Kindle Edition. The 11th letter is H. And the first is O, which works with 1 = O, H = 11. That being said, there's another O before letter 6, do I skip it? otherwise H = 11 doesn't work O = 1 B = 2 V = 3 I = 4 O = 1 U = 6? S = 7 L = 8 Y= 9 T = 10 H = 11 E = 12 Y = 9 A = 13 R = 14 E = 12 F = 15? is this making any sense

E 5 5 H looks like an interesting spot. Only so many double letters out there The most common are: ss ee tt ff ll mm oo It's not O, T, E, or L That leaves 5 as S, F, or M

Should we focus first on the Diagram epigraphs? (This assumes that the characters would be able to solve this puzzle on their own I suppose).
-
Is it possible that the difference in letter numbers is attributed to a language difference between English and Alethi? Alethi has a shorter alphabet, I believe. As I am new here, in these sorts of endeavors does Peter ever come in to tell us if we're close or completely off, or does he just sit back and laugh maniacally whilst we act like the 10 Fools?

I can't help, but feel that the key is somehow related to the Diagram itself, but I can't figure out how (also, obviously a high likelihood of incorrectness)
-
I doubt it too, it doesn't seem to be Brandon's style. For kicks, I searched "key" in WoK, and other than the innumerable hits on the word darkeye, there's a reference to Vedeledev's golden keys, and Navani being thrilled that Dalinar's gibberish is the key to the Dawnchant.

I've been trying to do that since I'm hopeless at cracking codes. Thusfar, I have that " the knights radiant are the key" and that Mr T wrote near his bedstead in hieroglyphics. I'm trying to determine whether the code as is would be solvable by in world characters or if there is a 4th wall break, thus using page numbers or other clues outside the story itself. I assume the former, personally.
-
I will say that the reverence given to such objects as ceilings and floorboards was one of my favorite little things about the book. I know there's no citation for any key written on the bed table, but there is one for the bedstead lamp. It indicates the original was written in hieroglyphics...

Thank you good sir(?). I have many skills, but computers and coding is not one of them. But that does a nice job of explaining the concept to a laywoman like myself, so greatly appreciated. Is the general assumption that this is some type of substitution code, possibly with several layers? Or am I way off.
-
It's probably been done, but is there any merit in substituting vowels in for the numbers we assume are vowels (10 maybe?) and trying to extrapolate a word from that? Or is there a string of repeated letters like the or and that can be determined and then worked backwards? Probably not helpful, since there's an actual key somewhere in the book, but it's late and I have insomnia.

Can someone please enlighten me on what a compression scheme is? Wikipedia was gibberish to me. Thanks

That's interesting. The quote says he feels a piercing warmth. Both piercing and warmth are italicized at points. He also knows the source well in his dream, but when he thinks back on it, wonders what the warmth was. Hmm.

I think I accidentally hit a red button on your post, how do I fix that?! I really need to figure out how to work things .

Should we assume that the key is something that in world characters would have access to, or is there 4th wall being broken? I tend to assume the former. He says he wrote the key on his bedside table in his interlude - are any of the Diagram folios noted as being on a table or nightstand? Apologies, I don't have my book in front of me.

A quick search of hospital gives no immediate indication of when they were built, but it is definitely a long time. Kaladin states that Lirin was trained by a Kharbranthian surgeon (page 259 WoK, Kindle), but I don't know if that gives any substantial proof that the hospitals were built that long ago.

In the Taravangian interlude, the chart lists the last 500 days, and based on this quote, it doesn't seem that the Diagram Day was included in that, but I could be misreading: “So this is where I was most intelligent,” Taravangian said, pointing at the last point on the chart. It was far to the right, and very close to the bottom. A representation of high intelligence and a low frequency of occurrence. “This was that day, that day of perfection.” “No,” Adrotagia said. “What?” “That was the time you were the most intelligent during the last five hundred days,” Adrotagia explained. “This point represents the day you finished the most complex problems you’d left for yourself, and the day you devised new ones for use in future tests.” “I remember that day,” he said. “It Sanderson, Brandon (2014-03-04). Should we assume that the Ceiling Rotations are related? The other one discusses things like: The Desolation and The Ancient Of Stones (?). Maybe they're also discussed somewhere in this code as well. Likely not, but since my code breaking is awful, I may as well offer crazy ideas.

I did a search on my Kindle for all instances of the word "key" and this popped up: This had to work. It had to. “This is all in the Dawnchant,” Inadara said. “I can’t make sense of any of it.” The Knights Radiant are the key. Shouldn’t Renarin’s sword have been enough? “What’s the pattern?” she whispered. “Mmm . . .” Pattern said. “Perhaps you cannot see it because you are too close? Like the Shattered Plains?” Shallan hesitated, then stood and walked to the center of the room, where the depictions of the Knights Sanderson, Brandon (2014-03-04). Words of Radiance (Stormlight Archive, The) (p. 1019). Tom Doherty Associates. Kindle Edition. I have no idea if this is of relevance, but it does directly state what the key is

Apologies if this is not the right place for this, as a newbie, I am still learning how the forums work... but I was going through phrases that I highlighted during my first read (I am proud that I had the sense to highlight the list of Mraize's objects). At any rate, one thing I highlighted was this descriptor of Mraize: "his right hand was scarred, the fingers crooked, as if they had been broken and badly reset." Sanderson, Brandon (2014-03-04). Words of Radiance (Stormlight Archive, The) (p. 494). Tom Doherty Associates. Kindle Edition. Does this give any indication of who he is? I am not nearly as good with the cosmere as most of you are, and deepest apologies if this has already been discussed, I couldn't find it anywhere. Thank you for your time.

Hello, I have been a longtime lurker, and I basically finally made a username because of this thread. I wish that I had something insightful to add, but mostly I wanted to express a deep sense of gratefulness to all of you that are trying to work this out. It's incredibly impressive, and I wish there was something I could do to assist, but alas, I know nothing about code breaking. I keep trying to see if a string of letters matches with a Rosharian word like Urithiru or one of the Heralds, but it seems that this is where you are all heading any way by getting a list of palindromes from the novel, so I am well behind your skills. At any rate, thank you kindly for having such impressive abilities, and I will continue to closely follow your progress and hope to be able to offer some sort of help in some limited manner somehow.

I have been a longtime lurker in these forums, and have gained considerable insight from them. I figured I should finally sign up and say hello, though I am certainly intimidated by the vast knowledge contained in these parts. Hopefully I will be able to contribute in some manner, I'm extremely fascinated by the cosmere, and look forward to my time here. Cheers.
