Shardcast: The Lord Ruler (Character and History)

This week on Shardcast we are done with Roshar. Take that, Roshar, it's time for Scadrial's time in the sun. (Get it? Because they are closer to the sun in Era 1. Hah, jokes.) Anyway, we are talking about one of the most interesting things on Scadrial: the Lord Ruler! We're talking about his character and history, and we'll talk in detail about his powers next week. We talk about the Ascension A LOT, get derailed from talking about the subjugation of Terris, and of course, get annoyed thinking about the Lord Ruler's kids. 

Today we have Eric (Chaos, who talks way too much in this), Matt (Comatose, and his video is terribly laggy), and Grace (thegatorgirl, who unfortunately has to deal with these two Lord Ruler nerds blab).

I like how similar Rashek is to Kelsier. Both members of oppressed groups both charismatic and hateful towards to the ruling class. 

I think TLR wasn’t into religion because he learned through his uncle that Ruin was screwing with the texts and the religion he grew up with was not reliable. 

He put that plate in the ministry building quoting his uncle saying only engraving in metal can be trusted.

Maybe TLR was going to divide up the empire betwixt his children but changed his mind for reasons. Like maybe they were useless "trust fund" babies or something. That would be a great reality show.

I always wondered if the Lord Ruler actually went to the beyond like we were lead to believe in Secret Mysteries. The very nonchalant attitude he showed toward Kelsier and Preservation made me believe he knew exactly what had happened to him and  knew what to do next. Of course it could be he knew he was done and ready to move on but I always hoped maybe he didn’t and stayed in the Cosmere. Probably just me wanting more Rashek. Great podcast!!!!!

I feel like some of the Lord Ruler's pettiness came out when sentencing Kelsier. Simple death wasn't good enough. He invaded the Lord Ruler's home and deserved a long drawn-out death.

And Mare might have arrived a few days later so the inquisitors could get information out of her about her parentage. Since Kelsier hadn't snapped yet they wouldn't have known he had noble blood.

Woah, I was certain my WTCC submission would be ignored forever... XD but it was actually in this one! Thanks guys!

I will note that one of the clues I sent was, different from what you guys said here, but now that I think about it, the one you guys used works just as well (or maybe better).

So, I wrote "this character receives visions" instead of "this character receives visitors". Visitors (the breath petitioners in Lightsong's case) works just as well and I feel like it's definitely broader that way and harder to guess. However, Visions is more iconic to Lightsong I guess?

Anyways, it was awesome seeing if you would guess my character.

Is the new shardcast coming out today? I can't find it anywhere. I had to mow to music. Music. Not some awesome podcast about Brandon Sanderson.

Due to sickness, Shardcast has been canceled this week. I probably should have announced it here and not just Discord and the social medias xD Lord Ruler will continue next week.
