Coppermind Objectives: Getting Ready for Wind and Truth
After a long hiatus, we’re back with another round of Coppermind objectives! Wind and Truth is just around the corner, so this list features several Stormlight articles, as well as many other articles that need work. There are a variety of ways in which you can help, so we hope you’ll join in! Whether you’re new to editing the Coppermind or an experienced editor, we’d love your help! If you’re new to the Coppermind, don't worry; we’ll provide you with whatever guides and assistance you need. You don’t need any prior experience, just a willingness to help out!
Without further ado, here are our objectives for October and November. If you find something you'd like to help with, claim it here, and let us know if you have any questions! If nothing in the list below catches your eye, there are still plenty of other pages that need work, and we’re happy to help find a page to work on. If you sign up for something, please say hi on Discord so that we can offer support and touch base with you!
Larger Projects
Let's start with some larger projects. These objectives will definitely require some research and a good bit of writing. Anyone is welcome to take them - we just don't want you to feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew.
Despite Rhythm of War being out for almost four years, Shallan’s history section still needs to be updated with information from Rhythm of War. There’s a small paragraph summarizing the important events, but it definitely needs to be expanded. (Note: Pattern’s history also needs updating, and should be pretty similar, so you can also update his page if you want!)
The True Desolation encompasses almost the entirety of the Stormlight books so far, so it’s a pretty important page. This page has lots of info about the lead-up to the True Desolation, but that’s about it. While working on this page might be a bit daunting, we’re happy to help you with formatting or finding information.
3. Waxillium Ladrian’s TLM History
Although Wax is one of the most important characters in The Lost Metal, his history section pretty much stops after the events of The Bands of Mourning. While there’s a lot of info to go, through it should be pretty straightforward.
4. Frostlands
The Frostlands make up the southeastern portion of Roshar, and are pretty significant. The page currently has very little information, and needs sections on major locations, history, and culture. This isn’t a huge project, but may require a good bit of research.
5. Spensa Nightshade’s Defiant History
Spensa’s history section covers everything through the events of Cytonic, and just needs to be updated with the events of Defiant. While a sizable project, it’s a great objective for any Cytoverse fans!
6. Gongsha Town
Gongsha Town is the small town in Torio where half of Yumi and the Nightmare Painter takes place. This page has almost nothing on it, so it would need to be updated with general information about the town’s layout, events, and culture.
The Emuli offensive is one of the main plotlines in Rhythm of War, and needs a lot of filling out. This page needs info on the background and lead-up, general history, and key moments.
Smaller Projects
These are objectives that won’t take as much heavy research and writing, and won’t take as long to do. Many of these may take some more careful digging, which can be made a lot easier if you have the ebook for the relevant book.
Getruda is one of the minor antagonists in The Lost Metal, and pops up several times. Her page already has a good amount of general information, but her history section just needs to be fleshed out.
2. Envisagers
The Envisagers were a group of people who tried to bring back the Knights Radiant, whom Teft’s parents were involved with. This page has most of the information already, it just needs a bit more details and a history section.
3. Azimir
Azimir is the capital of Azir, and is one of the biggest cities on Roshar. This page has some general information already, but could use some more details and any information from Rhythm of War.
4. Beacon
Beacon is the floating city from The Sunlit Man on which the Greater Good reside. This page has several sections already, but none of them have much information. This page needs many more details, as well as some citations for the info already on it.
5. Community
The Community was the project designed by the Set to deceive the dozens of Allomancers they held captive. This page needs a lot more details, especially the descriptions and history of the project.
Steris played an important role in the events of The Lost Metal, though she doesn’t appear in as many chapters as some other characters. Her history section only covers the events of the first three books, and needs to be updated with info from The Lost Metal.
The Battle of Narak takes place during the climax of Words of Radiance, and is one of the biggest battles in the series. This page could use some more details in the Battle section to flesh it out more.
The Cinder King is the main antagonist in The Sunlit Man, and his page already has some general information. His history section only contains details about his rule, and needs information about Nomad’s time on Canticle.
The Dueling Arena is the arena where Adolin won his various Shardblade duels in Words of Radiance. This page could use more details in its Events section, detailing some of the more important bouts that occurred there.
What’s in it for me?
We want to motivate people to help, so we will be giving out Coppermind awards for every user who completes an objective, as well as awards to those who complete the most objectives during the next two months. These awards will then be proudly displayed on your user page for all to see.
How do I start?
The most important thing is to be bold! Content is hard to write, but we can always format your stuff if it doesn't quite match conventions. MediaWiki notation may appear scary at first, but the best way to learn is through experience. If you're interested, we have lots of guides to help: Help:Contents.
It does help a lot to have ebooks so you can find instances of a specific word or person. (This is extremely helpful for minor characters). If you have physical books, ask us and we can help you find information so you don't need to reread the whole text. We can also direct you towards some good articles to use as a go-by.
Come join us on the dedicated Coppermind Editing Discord, or come chat in the #coppermind channel on the 17th Shard Discord. We are really happy to help!
