My character... uhh... FELIX.

Felix did, uhm...

*Ahem*

Felix hopped up on top of a largish boulder and looked over his force of one hundred men: mostly dirty mercenaries, but with some good roman blood in there. They all raised their fists and cheered, if only for the paycheck he was offering them.

Amahild had been traveling for days. She noticed what appeared to be an town up ahead. She decided she would enter, so that she could try to bargain for some supplies and shelter. She nudged her horse forward, and headed over.

You can see no one but Kalarius and his horse. As you enter the town he calls out to you. "Hail, soldier. Are you a scout of Odoacer?"

*cracks knuckles* Okay. Time to try to speak in an old fashioned style. The reason I actually joined this. I thought it would be fun. :)

I am going to suck at this so bad, and it is going to be really funny.

She shook her head. "I am but a traveler looking for a place to tarry for a short time, so that I may rest."

*moans* I am so bad at this.

"A new power is rising! Our victory is at hand!"

"The last few years have surely been the most chaotic in the history of the Holy Kingdom, but from amidst the rubble, we can grow anew peace and justice!" Felix took a second to glance around and see how the people in his crowd reacted: only one cheer, which meant that ninety-nine of his people were staring aimlessly. Wonderful. "From the ashes of a great war shall we begin our new empire: one without king or ruler of blood and no strength! With our victories behind us, we shall usher in the newest era of democracy!"

No.

Stockton California.

Crime was bad enough that I wasn't allowed to walk down the street without supervision.

According to the internet, 1/19 of the population is the victim of a crime.

People got kidnaped in the middle of the day in front of the local high school once.

And one of the teachers promoted porn.

It was really, really, really bad.

Here's my character.

Name: Not sure if it's male, but Athanaric.

Appearance: Standard visigoth, white skinned, black haired. He has a straight mustache, but no beard. He is also pretty strongly built.

Skills: Pretty good mercenary as he is strong, but he's also a good thief when he needs to be. For some inexplicable reason he can play the accordion.

Personality: He's a joker and a trickster, but can be quite serious when he needs to be.  He tends to heavily look down upon women. For some reason, he never steals from his employer, even if it wouldn't hurt him at all and would benefit him greatly.

Backstory: This will be very simple because I don't want to spend any too much time in Google. His parents died when he was a child, which gave him his thieving talents. When he got old enough he started working and eventually became a mercenary. Whenever he's on hard times, he he would steal, so he's been able to stay alive over the years. He's in his late forties.

"Very well, my friend. Do you wish to sit around my campfire to escape the cold?"

"Yes. That would be wonderful." She walked over.

"It shall be nice, having someone to speak with on these forsaken plains. Tell me, if you are not a soldier of Odoacer, who do you pledge your allegiance to?"

"Why, to myself and to my family. I travel, as there are few ways for a woman to make a living in most lands."

"A respectable cause. Still, did you teach yourself swordplay? Few survive in these times without a good weapon and the will to use it."

"But of course! It would be foolhardy to travel with no means of protecting myself. I myself favor a spear."

"I see. I served in the army of the Empire as a proud member of the Equites. And thus I am trained in the horse and the longspear. It's served me well ever since that child Romulus was exiled."

Shoot, sorry, The last week kind of collapsed around me.

I'll get around to this at some point... It might be a while.

"So. where are you travelling to? I am heading for the realm of Syagrius, in Gaul, where I have heard that he is still loyal to the emperor, if only in words." He winces, before saying "I apologize for my questions. It has been too long since I've had a proper conversation."

"I do not care about the destination. I believe that the journey itself is indeed the most important piece, rather than the destination." She smiled. "And I don't mind the questions."

What? I couldn't help it. It was too good an opportunity.

Also, yes. That was a direct quote.

"Ah, good. And that is a just belief, though I am afraid that it cannot apply to me. I wish to get back to civilization and out of these fearful plains."
