Suffocation will be brief, or lack of air will be brief? Was suffocation not defined as death by lack of air? Oh well, maybe die here in the ground, or certainly die from that thing up there. Michial strangely trusted the crazy one. They probably would live, they made it out of the complex.

The eye-thing looks down and begins to shrink, smaller and smaller until it's the size of an actual eye, at which point an actual person begins to materialize around it , starting as a lot of little motes of lights before expanding out and filling the outline of a man, before it darkens a tad and a man is there, cloaked in a suit of light. You can see one of his eyebrows raise, before he waves his hand and a floor of light appears for a moment, covering the exit of the hole before fading out of view.

Despite this very intriguing event, none of the party see it- given that they are current entombed in the earth.

Before anyone has time to do any more than a little suffocating, the ground around them vanishes, leaving them in an underground pocket of air.

"Well I figured that seeing as how whether we lived or died wasn't up to us, I might as well might not make a big fuss about it." Tom stood up and brushed off his trousers. "Nothing I could do about it, so I didn't complain."
