The door leading to the stable slammed open as Caden stormed straight through the hall, mud splatter across his breast plate and legs. He tossed aside a man who dared to step across the general's path with a simple swipe of his arm, sending the young man screaming as he flew and hit the wall. Caden grinned for but a moment before a scowl returned to his face, scaring off any who even stepped in the same hall that he was in. He was late, and Stars above forsake him if he missed this blazing opportunity when it would likely never come again. After the first serving boy was cleanly smacked for trying to get the general's attention, presumably to offer some sort of service for his clothes, the message was received, and the staff left him be to reach his destination.  Caden hardly paused to open the door, scanning the room quickly for the hunter before setting on the strangely dressed man sitting in a fresh chair, it was identical to the one he had shattered when he had learned of his engagement to Riva. He growled, "what is it that you summoned me here for, hunter Exegesis?"

The man tried to smile pleasantly, but it was obviously forced. "Can we please cut this short, I've got a shrieking headache, and no amount of your near bradyphrenia like state will help it go away."

"Fine," Caden growled, "what did you find?"

"What you wanted," hunter Exegesis said as he lifted his arms above his head in a stretching motion, "and I don't know about you, but I need my payment."

"Not until I see the results," Caden stated with an edge rising in his voice.

Hunter Exegesis produced a piece of paper from his overcoat, "everything you need to know is in here. Now," Exegesis said as he leaned forward, "payment. I hear the Raveness is moving out in a hurry, so your opportunity of having her separated from her things is closing fast. That is how you're planning on getting me in, right."

Caden glared at the hunter's insufferable, knowing grin and reaching for the slip of parchment. "Hand it over."

"Nu uh uh," Exegesis said, withdrawing the paper into his sleeve. "After, not before. Now I suggest you start leading the way."

After clenching his extended hand into a fist, Caden spun around towards the door without glancing back at Exegesis to be sure that he was following. "Let's make this quick," he hissed at the man.

Exegesis's voice rang out from directly behind Caden, "that sounds rehearsed. You say that to your wife often?"

Caden spun to glare at him, in response to which the hunter only put his hands up mockingly. "I meant no offense, o' touchy general."

"If I see you again after this, nothing will stop me from cutting open your mouth to take you tongue out."

"I get the picture," Exegesis said, "can we move on, now? Some of us have an urgent appointment after this."

Caden scoffed, but led the hunter down into the depths of the castle, towards the Raveness's old place of residence.

12 hours ago, Zephrun's Imperium said:

"We can go get ice cream iffin' you want to instead." He flashed a hopeful smile.

Reyna pushed him away. "Forget about it," she muttered, then stormed off. "Come on, Wendy. Let's go find some squires."

"Um... I'm good. You go on ahead." Wendy watched her leave, then quickly crossed the room to Nicolae.

Nico was sweating. "Oh, this'll not end well, Wendy..."

Darrin knelt in the corner of his cell, weeping and shaking as he stared sightlessly upward. His eyes were white as ivory; no pupils or irises to be seen. Meaningless muttering dripped from his pale lips and sweat coated his badly bruised chest. Those bruises had gotten worse over night, though no one had touched him.
The guard nervously nudged his partner and pointed. “I think he’s… possessed.”
“Oh my Stars!” The other guard -  a short man named Ari - jumped. “What do we do? Do we tell the king?”
Topien shrugged helplessly. “I have no idea. He’s set for execution tomorrow, so… glad we’re getting rid of him when we are, I guess.” He sighed. “The king should probably know what he’s got in his basement anyway. I’m not going to go personally, but I’ll send him up a note.”
Just then, Darrin began to speak: “My Lord is displeased with me.” Tears streamed down the sides of his face and both guards were silent for a long moment.
“Well, that’s terrifying.”
“Maverick…” Darrin continued. “... can stop it.” With that, he crumpled and sobbed.

Maverick Oakenwey meanwhile was cuddling up with his cat. “Oh wes mwister Fowge. Who’s da cwutest widdle kitty in da world, huh?" The redheaded man scratched the fat old cat behind the ears and it purred lovingly. Mav sighed. "Ah, Forge. You're the only friend I have in the world. You won't betray or leave me, will you? Will you?" In response, Forge rolled over onto his belly, begging for loves. "Yeah." Maverick smiled. "I love you, too."
