C_Vallion she/her Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Hi, everyone! I've spent a little time wandering around the forum in the past, but never got around to getting involved with the discussion until now. I've read almost all of the Cosmere books, with the exception of the novellas and RoW (I read the preview chapters, but it coming out in the middle of NaNoWriMo means that I didn't get to start it on release day like I would have liked ). I love the Cosmere for the sheer size and complexity of it, but I'd have to say that the Skyward books are my favorites of what Sanderson has written. I will probably be spending most of my time here down in the Reading Excuses / Writing Excuses sections (at least until I get through RoW and inevitably need to look up some Cosmere reference that I've forgotten). I'm looking forward to getting involved with some of the conversations there. I'll also be looking at recruiting some readers, now that I've gotten a draft of one of my projects to where I need some input from people outside my immediate social circle. This seemed like a great place to do that, since I can't think of any other places where I might find a larger gathering of people with similar reading tastes than here. It's great to officially be here! And if anyone should happen to be interested in doing some alpha reading over their holiday break, get in touch -CVal 1
AonEne he/him Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 Hi, welcome to the Shard! Good luck with your book(s)!
Aon Tia she/her Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 Welcome to the shard! What sort of writing you do?
Honorless he/him Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 Welcome to the Shard! Hope you meet with success!

At this point, all of my significant projects have been high fantasy. The ones I've finished have leaned more toward a YA audience, but none of those are likely to see the light of day without starting them over from scratch. My current big project is an epic fantasy that's roughly outlined as a trilogy, with the first draft of book one finished, a very rough outline of book two sketched out, and a relatively thorough book three outline written. It probably still walks the YA line, but I think the scale I have in mind for it is larger than is standard for YA, so I'm hoping that my current alpha readers will have some feedback on how it currently comes across and whether it would benefit from being shoved more firmly in one direction or the other.
Bearer of all agonies he/him Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 Welcome! That’s awesome that you are a writer, and a fantasy one too. Yeah, the shard is a great place to get feedback/help, and especially for writing. What’s your favorite cosmere book? Good luck with your books!

I'd read it a few years ago before venturing into Stormlight Archives, and after picking up on a few of the connections there (though I know I missed a bunch), I'm looking forward to going back to it with those in mind. Just need to finish RoW first.

I love Stormlight a lot, but there are certain aspects of each of the books that make it hard to put one at the top of my favorites for the Cosmere list. I will say that what I've read of RoW so far has it headed toward being my favorite of the series (probably because of the Navani focus in Part 1) , but there is far too much of it left to say that with any certainty. There's also a good likelihood that it having been so long since I've read Warbreaker means that my brain has glossed over the things that it didn't like as much, and that a re-read will just complicate my Cosmere favorites ranking. But we shall see

Wow!! Great!! Nice to know that you are well ahead in the process of writing your series! Whenever someone starts to talk about their books and uses words like epic fantasy or trilogy or outlines done for all three, I dare say they grab my attention!! Do let me know when any of your book come out!!
