You may NOT post Rhythm of War things outside the Rhythm of War board. I have moved this, but please do not do this again. Thanks!

...but once you're here, can you explain the epilogue? ;)

Wit is storing his memories in his Breaths and Taravangian is save-scumming through the conversation by messing with Hoid's memories everytime Hoid figures out he isn't talking to Rayse. Odium is causing Hoid to forget things essentially.

never read it. how do i get it? newsletter?

It's a podcast Chaos does with some very prominent Sharders/friends of his where they talk for hours in-depth on these things. On the website right to the right of forms is Shardcast. I'm not into podcasts but I got into this one. Great to listen to you whenever you do something idly or need something to listen to.

My point being Chaos will have already talked in depth for a long time with others about the Hoid epilogue on once of the recent episodes, as well as thoughts on literally everything else Rhythm of War.

At first I thought TOdium had trapped Hoid in a time loop, possibly to poke around through his memories and learn about the wider Cosmere (and I still kind of think that). Did anyone else get that vibe?

There was no time travel, there was just a removal of short term memory.

  1. Hoid tells a story, plays with coins, and argues with Design.
  2. Hoid sends Design away.
  3. Hoid talks to Odium
  4. Hoid notices it's not Rayse
  5. Todium removes the memory of the conversation
  6. Hoid tells the same story as before
  7. Hoid goes to play with the coins and notices they are not in the right places
  8. Hoid goes to talk to Design and remembers he sent him away
  9. Hoid talks to Odium
  10. Hoid notices his perfect pitch is not right
  11. Hoid notes that something is wrong but still says that the meeting had gone exactly as he imagined.

I'm convinced a few things:

  1. Hoid knows when someone messes with his memories through the perfect pitch thing
  2. Hoid had to have also known that something messed with him when the coins were misplaced and Design was gone (Todium didn't completely remove the memory of Hoid sending Design away)
  3. Hoid then tries to convince himself or the audience that everything went as planned.

I don't think there's going to be some huge reveal about this in the next book. No major consequences for Wit or Todium. No game changing information that Todium got. It's just an interesting aside to show a bit more about Wit and how he does some things, a little nugget about how Todium is plying his new trade, and to put another nugget of uncertainty regarding the upcoming contest. After all, Rayse and Dalinar didn't agree to Cephandrius' contract. They agreed to their own contract.

I definitely think that if TOdium was messing with Hoid's memories, there's a decent chance he had a quick peekaroonie at the secrets of the cosmere while he was there. That would surely lead to something huge in the next book.
