Anyway, they’re a species of Siphonophore similar to Apolemia but airborn. They’re basically these giant strings of coexisting organisms that float through the sky and catch microscopic prey. They’re awesome. What instruments do you play?” Cara blinked. "Wow, that sounds interesting and cool. A good combo. Are there a lot of them just floating in the sky in Aerduar? Like, do they prefer to stay away from civilization, or can you see them just floating around by the market? I play the guitar, uke, flute, and violin. Mainly guitar."

But the others were not as hasty as he was. They did not know the joy he felt at moving, at heading towards some unknown adventure, free from the restraints of normal life most other felt. He looked out at the horizon, trying to ignore the longing he felt to race towards that freedom, and instead focused on that feeling of dread that had slowly begun settling over him since the attack the previous day. How had he not noticed it until that moment? "I can feel... Something," Talnic finally said. "Something... Something's shifting." He searched for someone he could question - his group has a large amount of magic users in it, so he could basically question anyone. He avoided Valzwyn - after yesterday it was probably best - and went instead to the girl with the Memory-shadow and the runes. He saw she was talking to the newcomer, which seemed enthusiastic to talk to people. He went to the shadow-girl, and said: "I believe you told me yesterday you had some kind of rune magic?" Quote Naturally, the Notioncloud around Gal is going to be weird, overgrown with one specific Center. The fact that Manifesting is a branch of Mindgardening, as is Gal's magic system, will make this discussion interesting.
S4S Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 (edited) Quote Hope this works. Let me know if there are any concerns. Spoiler Name: Rengoku (Ren) Age: Physically 21, “Realmatically” 27 Brief History: When Ren was 21 years old, an organized cult of necromancers broke into his home and performed an unholy ritual on him. The cult’s curse was one that would send the receiver of their bane directly to the Afterlife, severing all connections to the other Realms in an attempt to permanently destroy the mind and soul. The cult was interrupted part way through however, and the ritual was left incomplete. The result placed Ren in a purgatory, lingering but never fully connecting to any of the existing Realms. Being unable to remain in his hometown any longer because of this event, Ren disappeared. Existing under his own concept that he has “died” but not “passed away”, Ren has been wandering through quiet forests for the past 6 years. Appearance: Ren looks the same as the moment he “died” (lost major Physical connection to the world). Standing around 6’0”, he has wavy black hair, though it has faded slightly grey as a result of the necrotic ritual. He has silvery-blue eyes, a clean-shaven face, and pale (but not ashen white) skin. Ren wears a grey long-sleeve shirt, a pair of black trousers, and no shoes or socks on his feet. He carries no weapons or bags; the only personal belonging he possesses is a thin leather necklace ornamented with a small obsidian, jade, and amethyst bead; he was wearing the necklace at the time of the ritual. Lastly, Ren generally manifests in all Realms with a 50% transparency, visually appearing faded as if he were a spirit on all Realmatic levels. Skills (simplified explanation): Ren lingers somewhere between the Realms, but has disjointed connections with each of them. The determination of how strongly he manifests between the Realms is by the amount of air he holds in his lungs. By breathing in and holding his breath, Ren is able to fade from the Physical Realm for the duration that he can hold his breath. By forcing the air from his lungs and not inhaling, he becomes more solid and is able to interact with the Physical Realm until he needs to inhale once more. Ren is not especially combative in his abilities, but his current state of being allows him to sneak with exceptional prowess. Also, depending on which Realm he is closest to, certain attacks or spell effects can have a greater or lessened impact on him. Personality: Since his death, Ren has become significantly more introspective and philosophical about life and his current state of being. His isolation has given him time to reflect on his previous experiences as well, and while he isn’t depressed, he hasn’t had much to be optimistic about either. His time alone has also made open conversation more a challenge, but his previous social habits can most likely return with time. Lastly, regardless of whether it is combat or conversation, in a “fight or flight” situation Ren will generally take a deep breath and disappear from a conflict altogether. *I apologize if I’m using terminology, ideology, or theology incorrectly in any way; I tried to learn what Worldbuilding and customized Realmatic Theory I could before attempting to explain how I hope my character can operate If this is satisfactory, I should be able to contribute something to the story in a bit. I'm excited to get started with Ren! I have an idea of how I can introduce him, and I'll work to write it soon. As a heads up, it would probably have to involve Talnic, Orpheus, or Ara (from what I understand, these three would possibly have the greatest success in detecting Ren).

Some even require you to connect them to another etching to function. For example...” Ara reaches awkwardly into her pack as she walks and pulls out two inscribed metal plates that are lashed to each other by copper wire. “This iron plate creates heat. The metal gives it a basic command of what to do, while the etching in the metal refines specifics. The gold plate strapped to this one refines even more. In a two-plate system like this, it’s pretty redundant. I just use it because it’s easier to make edits to than the iron. However, in a multi-plate mechanism, gold can communicate between the plates. Act as a brain, sort of, to a larger nervous system. I’ve seen Insignial devices that can Manifest a pane of beautifully carved glass, heat it to the perfect temperature, keep it at the correct pressure for high altitudes, and automatically replace it when it’s damaged.”
