"My name's Cara, and I just wanted to talk to him. What are you doing? Besides, talking to me."

"What's your deal, here?" Orpheus asked. "Are you a spy?"

"A spy? No, of course not." Cara responded, hurt that so many people in this group have already labelled her untrustworthy without even trying to get to know her.

"That's precisely what I'd expect a spy to say," he said quietly. Zanidar, investigate her.

Ara walked up to the two. “What’s going on, here?” The Notioncloud she could see surrounding Orpheus was flickering strangely.

When the voices started, Talnic made his was through the forest and back to the camp. He dropped his small load of firewood next to the dying fire, and then proceeded to pull his scarf up over his nose and mouth. It was an odd comfort, but a comfort nonetheless. With people not able to see his face, he became more free. People couldn't see his facial expressions. They couldn't see his mind. He became a shadow. And when wearing his hat, they couldn't even see the ever changing colors of his eyes.

"Is there something wrong?" Talnic asked softly, coming to a stop beside the group.

"Nothing's wrong," Orpheus said, "I just... feel very oddly about that bear attack yesterday. Avren said he saw a man. It must have been a targeted attack."

Talnic nodded slowly. "That wouldn't be surprising," he said slowly. "We'll have to keep an eye out for disturbances like that."

What else was he supposed to say?

Should he assuage their worries?

Or should he admit that he had had no idea what the bear had been?

Talnic sighed.

Gal eats his breakfast, which he got out of his backpack, then goes to the gathering adventurers. He notices the paranoid look in Orpheus' eyes and nodded to himself. This was expected, though based on what his demon said yesterday, it probably won't be permanent. Anyway, demons weren't from the Ideal realm, he was sure, so their effect would be different.

He heard Minuet's question, and joined the gathering, waiting to hear the Shadow's answer.

Cara studied the Shadow. She wanted to get a good read on what he was really like, so she would know the best way to befriend him. Why was he covering his face? Was he cold? It didn't seem very cold, but some people tended to think even the slightest bit of wind was cold.

I could probably talk to him on the way to where ever we are going, Cara thought.

She'd also have to question the group about that bear attack. Seemed like it would make the perfect campfire story. She focused her attention back on The Shadow to hear his reply to Minuet's question.

Minuet walked over. "Are we going to get moving?"

Talnic nodded curtly. "Eat breakfast, pull your stuff together, and then we'll leave." With that, Talnic turned and strode back to where he had left his pack.

Minuet, who had already done those things, raised her eyebrows. Well, at least she could keep watch. These people were far too laid-back in their travel.

Cara walked back to her tent, fed her horse, and ate some fish and berries. After, she started to pack her things while softly humming a lullaby.

The conversation trailed off, and Ara found herself wondering about this new member of the group. She didn’t think they had been properly introduced yet.

As the girl was packing, Ara walked up. “Hi! I’m Auriel,” she said, sticking out her hand, “but you can call me Ara. What brings you on this quest?”

Cara looked up and enthusiastically shook Ara's hand. "Hi! I'm Cara. I like to travel around and meet new people, so when I bumped into you guys, I asked if I could join. Travelling with a group of people is way more fun than travelling by yourself." Cara added, "I'm an entertainer."

Cara was glad that at least one person here was friendly. One could never have too many friends.

"I play guitar and sing. I also tell stories." Cara replied, "What about you? Where are you from and what are your interests?"

“Oh, you know, I’m not very interesting. Just plain old me. I can do some magic, but it’s nothing compared to what some of the people here can do. I’m from down south, though. Aerduar, it’s called. Probably not on the map.” Ara shivers. “It’s warmer down there, except in the mountains.” I like this girl. I can trust her, right? Memory whispered back in Ara’s mind. “Ara, I can name at least ten different people in the last year you’ve trusted who have then betrayed you. You just met her six seconds ago!”

"Oh, cool, Aerduar, I think I've visited once. Nice place." Cara responded, keen to learn all about her new friend. "What's your favorite color?"

“Orange! Yours?”

Minuet had searched in every direction, but she couldn't see anyone heading for them. It was probably safe to climb down - she'd looked far enough that it would take a long time to sneak up on them - but she didn't really want to. Why did I even set out with this group? I've just made their dangerous journey even more dangerous! It was nothing short of idiotic. When will I learn that my choices affect people other than me? And when will I be able to get over myself and leave this group to their quest, making it harder yet less dangerous? But she wasn't ready to leave yet. So she stayed. Which, really, proved that she didn't care all that much about them. If she really cared, she'd leave. But she cared about the adventure and the help she might be able to give them. I'm just talking myself around in circles. Stay, or don't. She'd stay, then. She nodded briskly once and climbed down from the tree.

"Mine is green. What is your favorite creature?"

“In Aerduar, there are these things called Siphospirlia. Well, most people call them Sky Spirals. Anyway, they’re a species of Siphonophore similar to Apolemia but airborn. They’re basically these giant strings of coexisting organisms that float through the sky and catch microscopic prey. They’re awesome. What instruments do you play?”
