How long in the past for a universe-changing event to have occured

Hi there! In the story I'm working on, I've worked out that in the past, out of any memory, a huge, universe-changing event occurred.

The issue is that I have a species that is extremely long lived, like can live to be over 10,000 years old. I know that the species has censored the information about the event so the modern people don't have any idea of what occurred, but the long lifespan means I'm struggling with figuring out when this event could have occured so that not only text evidence but any verbal memories passed down would be completely erased.

Any thoughts are welcome!

How advanced are they? Information lasting depends on both government propaganda and technology of the time. Is it modern, medieval, or futuristic? And does this event have a direct impact that they can see or they a bit out of its range, so to speak? Are they capable of space travel? There are a lot of factors that can go into this. (You should also probably think about how having creatures living a thousand years will have. How long does it take to get to adulthood or pregnancy? Matpat's video on baby Yoda, while crap, does mention some interesting things about creatures with long life spans and disadvantages that has.)
