Fadran ducked behind his walls, poking out at opportune moments to retaliate.

Aria aimed for the places where she thought Fadran might poke his head out. She dodged the snowballs he sent at her, making more while he was hiding.

One took him in the face, but he simply blinked through the cold. He smiled, then whistled.

Aria looked around. That couldn't be good.

Junior came running down the hill, whinnying as he ran. Fadran kicked up a sled, hooking it to a rope from Junior's harness, then grabbed a bunch of snowballs.

"Go, boy!" Fadran called.

Junior huffed, then began running, Fadran in two. They circled around Aria, Fadran tossing snowballs at her from all angles.

Aria curled up in the middle, tossing the occasional snowball but protecting her face. "Come on, Junior, aren't you on my side?"

Fadran kept tossing snowballs. "Not right now, he isn't!"

Junior seemed to disagree, however. He started running towards Aria. Fadran continued his barrage, but soon realized that Junior wasn't stopping.

"Hey! Junior!" Fadran called. "You're going to run over Ar--"

Junior stopped abruptly, throwing Fadran forwards and face-first onto the ground at Aria's feet. The arc he flew in was quite spectacular: flailing arms, pitiful scream, and a satisfying oof and slide as he hit the ground.

Junior shook some snow off his head, satisfied, then licked Aria's face.

Aria giggled. "Thanks, Junior." She tossed a snowball at Fadran's head and put a foot on him, holding a heroic pose. "I - and Junior - have defeated Fadran!"

Fadran rolled over, frowning at Junior. "Traitor."

"'S not his fault if I'm more charismatic than you." Aria laughed and held out a hand to help Fadran up.

Fadran took it, getting to his feet. "Alright, I'm just about ready for some hot chocolate... there's just one more thing we need to do."

"It's something we do back on my homeworld... well, technically we do it when we get married, but I've never gotten married before, and I've done it tons of times." Fadran looked around. "We just need a good, thick snowbank..."

"Alrighty. Now, but by doing this, you promise to be best friends foreverNo matter what." Fadran gave her a half-incredulous eye. "You think you're up to it?"

"So you turn around, back to the snowbank." Fadran did so. "Then close your eyes."

*your, also *then.

Aria did it, squeezing her eyes shut.

Aria obligingly held her breath.

"You can't tell the other person when you're going to fall. You just have to believe that they're going to fall with you, because best friends always know."

Aria couldn't say anything - she was holding her breath and wasn't going to make any noise.
