ShardplateJoe III Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 (edited) Hey y'all! Been away from these forums for quite a while, so forgive me if this is a repost or if there is already a thread on this, but I recently dipped my toes into the D&D world, and I think it would be fantastic to adapt some of the rules to allow for a Stormlight D&D game. I'm thinking specifically of how stormlight is used for surges, healing, combat, things like that. Are there any rules that y'all can think up to make a Stormlight Archive run though of D&D work well? Edit: Sorry for duplicating this topic, my computer was being slow for a moment, and so I pressed the post button twice, not realizing that it would well... post two copies of the exact same post. Skaromas he/him Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 Brilliant idea, but the first problem you would have to look at is the class system in dnd and how you would fit that with stormlight, you could make a “surgebinder” class with sixteen subclasses, but that would be a lot. You would have to have a base class of the first oath being taken at level 1 granting abilities similar to sorcery points that can be recharged by spheres, you would have abilities like healing and increased speed or strength temporarily. Then you would have to split the next four oaths by level, with the subclasses being different orders.

earthexile Posted August 9, 2020 Posted August 9, 2020 I think it would be much easier, and probably a better fit for Stormlight, to use the FATE system. It's very suited to the big displays of arcane weirdness that make the Stormlight books so cool, and less concerned with a lot of specific little numbers and rules for spells. It's all about using your imagination in the moment and invoking the traits of your character, enemies, and surroundings to set up rolls. I should try to find a FATE character sheet and make some example Stormlight people.

Plus I love the plus/minus dice.
GriffinMaze Posted August 9, 2020 Posted August 9, 2020 If we are talking 5E. I think the best way to make a Surgebinder fit into the mold would be to have players be able to pick 1 surge at each class feature level. 3, 7, 11 etc. I would try to find existing spells that fit the mold of each Surge and maybe slightly modify as need to make sure the Surges aren't too OP.
