Mat he/him Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 So I was wondering, because we know the Bavland nation of Roshar has it's own culture and language different from anywhere else, how easy would it be to move there and start a new life there? If a native Alethi moved to Bavland, how fast would they pick up the language? How soon would they adjust to the culture? Would they use the 'Oi' instead of 'I'? This is a lot of questions, and I know there is not a lot of info concerning the in-world languages- after all, the book is just in English- but I was still hoping there was something I missed. Thanks!
Cope97 Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 Depends on a person, probably hard I don't think they are hospitable
Honorless he/him Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 (edited) They have their own distinct language/dialect but they are a part of the Vorin Kingdoms (Alethi and Veden are very closely related, other Vorin Kingdoms also use a Vorin dialect, aside from their own tongue), and so it should be possible to get someone to teach you, though it might be difficult as it's a poor, overlooked region of Jah Keved. The way the character's speech is portrayed/transcribed seems to indicate they just speak a different dialect, though they might once have spoken a distinct language as they have some distinct words.
