Is it just me or will this come back to bite Dalinar?

Quote

We will protect them Taravangian I vow it.

Do you think we will see a Kal and Syl situation with Dalinar and the Stormfather or something worse or nothing at all?

I think this will almost definitely come up later and cause Dalinar trouble especially with the Stormfathers view on oaths.

No, Dalinar intends to protect all of Roshar, Jah kevad included.

Mr.T was talking about Kharbranth I think that Kharbranth will be used by Odium as a rallying point for the humans who fight the supporters of Honor. (or well another point other than the places he already has.)

Jah Kevad will probably reject Taravangain when they find out about Szeth and the Diagram so I don't think it will have too many consequences.

I agree that Jah Kevad will kick him out but what I am saying is that Dalinar speaking for all the radiants (he said We) won't be able to act at all against people in Kharbranth and they will make trouble because they can walk around with impunity from the radiants and the armys Dalinar leads.

Think about how the Stormfather sees oaths and how when Dalinar said we it could make problems.

Protecting a people from the forces of Odium isn't the same as giving everyone there a free pass to do whatever they like with impunity and it doesn't mean actions can't be taken against people there in the name of protecting them. To use a somewhat relevant analogy, an international peacekeeping force tasked with protecting civilians in war zones is capable of going after individuals or groups hiding among those same civilians in the name of protecting the rest. I doubt that even the most literal-minded Honorspren would consider the Windrunners' Third Ideal to extend that far.

Protect is an ambiguous term.  We have seen both loving and horrible relationships, governments, and military policies being taken to protect something.  Dalinar could rightly argue that he is protecting them from moral corruption by association with Odium by stopping that from happening.

fair enough but I still can't help but think that this will come into play somehow later in the series.

It might.  I think if it does it will be more ethical then magical in terms of its effects.  The wording seems to ambiguous to be binding.
