Simply Google wiki on Gurren Lagann and read then Vote.   I think the similarities to the story are way too similar, the characters are even similar envy so far as blue haird guy and a female sniper lol..   I lost a bit of respect for his book release rate.

Christopher Polonini was not exactly using an original premise.  The story of a young boy finding a dragon egg and deciding not to harm it are really conventional and as hundreds of years old as well.  In fact Brandon specifically sights Yolen's Pit Dragon series as inspiration and that predates both.  Also thematically they have nothing in common.  Also don't double post.

The premise may be similar, but the stories themselves are completely different. In Skyward it focuses more on Spensa wanting to fly, while Ironsides is afraid of the "defect" and as such refuses to let Spensa join the DDF. Gurren Lagann looks like it focuses on blindly disobeying your leaders and rebelling against them, regardless of whether they have good reasons or not, while Skyward focuses on the struggle of whether Spensa really is too dangerous to let fly.
