Sun Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) I find it unfair both Shallan and Kaladin get their own separate thread, yet the increasingly more interesting Adolin hasn't one. I am fully aware this question maybe difficult to answer because his character will be undergoing a major shift and experience heavy character development in the upcoming books. However, it's still fun speculating. I have this strange, unsubstantiated feeling that Shallan and Adolin will begin to grow a part emotionally and possibly physically in Book 3 (Being exiled for the murder of Sadeas), but their relationship will eventually come around in a full circle, ending up together in later books. Adolin will experience a lot of character growth in the next book, and they will begin to see each other in a new light. Edited May 25, 2014 by Sun 2

I am so with you on this one! I find it so unfair minor characters such as Szeth, Eshonai and Lift are scheduled to have a book and not Adolin who is growing more intense and interesting by the minute I agree those may become more prominent as the story goes, but I still think it is unfair (and frustrating). My favorite theory, so far, is Adolin and Shallan growing apart due to Shallan's increasing responsibilities paired with Adolin increasing insecurities (plus some angst and guilt) only to see them come back to each other in a later book. While they are apart, Shalladin could be explored only to find out these two are better of as friends.
kaellok he/him Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Shallan is awesome, and deserves to be in all of the threads, so I don't think it's unfair for her to have one of her own. That said, I think Shallan and Adolin will be great together, and I'd like to see that work out. 1

However, I think it is very sad Adolin, who is another major character, gets nothing while a bunch of minor ones get a whole POV book. Jasnah and Renarin have been so far, quite minor and they do get a book. Szeth, Eshonai, Taln and Lift are also quite minor (and for some mostly non-existent) and they get a book. Why not poor Adolin? I am so routing for him right now
Kobold King he/him Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 You're trying to keep track of Adolin's romantic life? Surely we at the 17th Shard don't have the resources to manage that. Finding a kandra worldhopper? Easily done. Predicting who Adolin courts next... that one's going to be much harder. That said, Rysn is an interesting choice. I, being an avid supporter of the theory proclaiming them both to be Dustbringers, believe this could work quite nicely and explains why Rysn gets prominent interlude chapters but not a book of her own. 3
Patrick Star Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Quite obviously, Adolin is going to end up with the Stick. At some point, Adolin will grow tired of Shallan's empty flattery and will find out about the ghostbloods. At this point, he will seek solace with another being whom Shallan attempted to use. Enter the Stick. 1
Fifth of Daybreak he/him Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) Plot twist. Ialai joins camp Kholinar and seduces Adolin. After the ten year break, we find out they are seperated because she finds out he killed her ex. Adolin grows an epic beard, and Hoid teaches him how to play guitar. He then bonds with the listeners through the sweet sadness of his music. That's when he runs into an old friend, Eshonai. Edited May 25, 2014 by EMTrevor 3
NeutroniumAlchemist he/him Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Noone, Adolin is an Eunuch in disguise
Kogiopsis she/her Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Honestly - though it's probably unlikely at this point - I'd be most interested in Adolin re-forging his relationship with Danlan. I felt like she was built up in WoK to have a more significant role than she had in WoR, and I think it'd be fascinating to see Adolin work at rebuilding something rather than just starting over, as he had in the past. (Hypothetically speaking, it could dovetail thematically with the theory about him re-awakening his Shardblade...) I'd be thrilled to see Kadolin become canon, but I don't expect it in the least. Most probable of the characters we know of is Shallan, IMO. (By the way, props to OP for listing Kaladin as an option at all. ) 1

It's not Adolin's past that is interesting, it's his future. We want to see what he will do next, how he will change, how he will react. But Szeth? It's all about finding out who he was, how he became who he is now. Jasnah, Eshonai, Taln, Lift– they all have unknown, mysterious pasts, pasts that are some of the main points of why the character holds our interest. They're the ones that need flashbacks. Adolin's past is pretty much covered by Dalinar. We don't need to retread stuff so Adolin can have his own book. 2

Book character gets so much more POV and so much more character development than the others... Plus, they all get to be KR. Anyway, the second half of SA happens after a 10 years gap. There could be plenty of material for flashbacks in there. Also, I do not think Dalinar's flashback will cover Adolin. It will most probably be about his time as the Blackthorn, his jealousy towards his brother, Navani, his wife's death, etc. We may get glimpses of Adolin and Renarin as kids, but I do not expect to see much there. Renarin book could cover some of it or it could cover the 10 years gap for him too.... We don't know.
leinton Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Not all book characters are always going to be KR. Remember, Eshonai gets a book. Or maybe she will become one? I dunno, I'd prefer to see her exploit Voidbinding and using it against their masters.
