Bigmikey357 he/him Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Something fishy is going on here... We've been told that the Orders that form the Knights Radiant are all a blend of Honor and Cultivation. Some lean more toward Honor, others Cultivation, but a blend nonetheless. But I'm beginning to see a pattern along the more Cultivation based orders. We have two instances where a bond was formed with actual children, Lift and Shallan. Our normal Truthwatcher, Stump, ran an orphanage and our other Edgedancer candidate, Ym, made shoes for children. I think these instances are indicative of a larger pattern. I think Cultivation prefers kids and nurturers and looks for people like that for her Knight candidates. If we are to believe Jasnah's childhood troubles were related to an attempt by spren to recruit her then we have yet another example. Renarin and Elkohar don't fit the pattern sure, but of those 2 Renarin is a special case and won't play by many of the rules. Elkohar is an exception in that not everyone Cultivation agents pick will meet the criteria. But I see it strange that while Honor's Knights are mostly fully formed people with issues, but most certainly are at the point in life where they can form an oath and hold it, Cultivation people are those that either can potentially grow into their oaths or people who help others grow. Could we be getting some clues into the shark's nature? Thoughts? 4
+Invocation Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 (edited) They're easier to turn to her purposes. Cultivation manipulates things, tries to mess with stuff. An army of child-soldiers with magic powers is perfect for that. Edited December 5, 2019 by Ookla the Quill 1
KandraAllomancer he/him Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 I see it simply as a consequence of her Intent - she wants to grow things and people, shape them into what they can be. Upbringing/nurturing is a natural part of that. Nothing particularly fishy about that 2
Ripheus23 Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Maybe Unity was her child (and Honor's of course!) so she has displacement syndrome or what?

That was my assumption for a long time, but this WoB has cooled my enthusiasm: Quote Questioner Has an unborn child ever been Ascended? Brandon Sanderson Ascended to be a Shard? No, that has not yet happened. Questioner Maybe not a Shard but... Brandon Sanderson Oh. Ascend to like a... No. I would say no. It hasn't ever happened. It's not implausible that the mother could Ascend and the child would... But it hasn't happened. Starsight Release Party (Nov. 26, 2019)
Ripheus23 Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 (edited) Well I'm thinking Unity had to have been alive/born already [can't get into that debate!!!]? IF Odium meant such a thing when he said the infamous line. Edited December 5, 2019 by Ripheus23
Karger he/him Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 First of all we are drawing on a fairly small sample size. The KR used to have hundreds of members in each order and now we maybe know about 20 of them total. I do agree that the nurturer is often important to Cultivation. Additionally I would say that Cultivation likes people who are more adaptable(children) while Honor is more interested in people honoring their commitments, and who will not change easily(adults). 1
