It's a quick an easy fix but does that negate the ability to form a nahel bond? Are you actually bonded to the shardblade by proxy bond of the lesser Spren? Like you are bonded to the lesser Spren and the lesser Spren is bonded to the shardblade thus giving you access to a limited use of the shardblade. With this proxy bond in place I think it would interfere with the ability to form a nahel bond. Also it would just be cool symbolic gesture between shardbarrer and dead Spren to just pull out the lesser Spren (a symbol of an artificial relationship between them) and form a new relationship based on trust.

It was added originally as ornamentation, so they're likely just gemstones. Imprisoning spren in gemstones to get a result out of them is a relatively new development. Also, they didn't have the gemstones on the Blades until a long time after the Recreance, though. You would think, if it's mostly the gemstone interfering, that the generation immediately after the Knights would be the most likely to be able to heal the spren, since they would have the most knowledge of the Knights, and wouldn't yet have the gemstone. The gemstones are not fabrails. They are a serendipitous discovery made during an attempt to ornament shardblades.
