Question Regarding Dalinar ch. 19 OB

So in Oathbringer Dalinar is almost smashed by a large boulder and he noticed a figure in the distance described as "Gargantuan" and "that moved on spindly glowing legs". What is it? Does it factor into any scenes later in the book? I don't remember this scene from a previous listen.

When is this?  Are you talking about the flashback scene were he wants his knife?

Some people think the face is the stormfather.  Others think it is some kind of greatshell like the chasmfiends that uses stormlight and a spren bond to fly and follows the storm around but like Nath said no real answers.

Where else do they appear? Any threads devoted to this or do they come up in discord and side conversations on other threads?

So this would just be a coincidence that it accidentally pushed a boulder to Dalinar? Greatshells bonding spren?! Never thought of this being possible. Does anyone feel like he is planting a seed for something big later?

It could have just been the wind that pushed the bolder at Dalinar.  Rosharan gravity is much less and there is a reason people do not go outside in highstorms.  We know both from Shallan's statements and from several WoBs that greatshells fly mathematically(they are so heavy that they would be crushed by their own weight if they did not).  I see no reason why a smaller subspecies of greatshell could have gone full zero g and stayed that way.  Skyeals also fly via the spren bond via a similar process.  As to weather Brandon is "up to something."  The answer is always yes.  If you meen "is he up to something here?"  I don't think anyone can tell you.

Perhaps I am reading to much into this but I think it was deliberate and that we can infer (that if it was a greatshell bonded spren) one thing. The bonded spren are not from Odium. Dalinar was being groomed to be his champion.

Perhaps the spren had a inkling of Dalinar's future? Perhaps he does become Odium' s champion in the end.

Ha perhaps I'm wrong about everything, it was just a stray gust of wind and this scene means nothing. Anyways thanks for the help.

Greatshells bond Luckspren to reduce gravity.  These spren are of Honor and Cultivation but they are not sapiant and they are generally regarded as a normal part of Rosharan ecology(the bond in this case is just a kind of symbiosis).

They're also mentioned in Words of Radiance. Chapter 74, Striding the Storm:

Quote

Light came from above, too steady to be lightning. Something was glowing on the plateau. Something that moved. It was hard to see, since water streamed off the side of the plateau above, falling in a sheet before their refuge. He swore he saw an enormous figure walking up there, a glowing inhuman form, followed by another, alien and sleek. Striding the storm. Leg after leg, until the glow passed.

I'm going to imagine a Shadow of the Colossus scenario on any gargantuan spindly monsters

I personally want huge bunch of these guys to show up and reinforce Dalinar's side during a climactic battle (along with a bunch of Casmefiends).

That would be an awesome action scene!
