Rushu42 she/her Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 I don't know whether I missed some bit of lore or whatnot, but this question has been bothering me; why doesn't Szeth's have a spren? Prior to his death he was bound to the Honorblade, so a spren wasn't required, but what about after that? He's a Skybreaker now, after all. Is this because he was brought back from the dead? Do no Skybreakers have spren? Is it something to do with Nightblood? I would love for someone to clear this up for me, if anyone knows.
Calderis he/him Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 He does, it's just shy. It's mentioned after he swears his third oath. Quote “The law is made by men, so it is not perfect either. It is not perfection we seek, for perfection is impossible. It is instead consistency. You have said the Words?” “Not yet. I swear to follow the will of Dalinar Kholin. This is my oath.” At the Words, snow crystallized around him in the air, then fluttered down. He felt a surge of something. Approval? From the hidden spren who only rarely showed itself to him, even still. 2
Nathrangking he/him Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 (edited) He has one it is just in hiding possibly because of Nightblood. EDIT: Ninja'd by @Calderis Edited May 21, 2019 by Nathrangking
Rushu42 she/her Posted May 21, 2019 Author Posted May 21, 2019 I must've missed that, thanks. Are all Skybreaker spren that shy, do you know?
Kramerfarve Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Not much is known about them, as they’ve only been mentioned a couple times, but it’s been theorized that szeth’s spren is hiding because of nightblood. 1
Karger he/him Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 His spren is also fairly new so it might just be taking some time to acclimate to its new status.
Zelly Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 (edited) For some reason I thought that Szeth's spren was one that he had met before, like in his younger years before being name Truthless. Maybe similar to Shallan's experience with Pattern, where trauma snipped the bond for a few years. Edited May 22, 2019 by Zelly
ebfritz Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 (edited) I wan't what the Shardcast predicted to happen, and have his spren act as his angel and nightblood his demon. We could have scenes where nightblood is shouting to destroy evil, his spren is saying that it is against the law, and Szeth is just done with it. Edited May 22, 2019 by ebfritz 3

Didn't Szeth see a few of the Skybreaker spren after his paintball fight? They liked like a break in the sky. I don't think they'll all shy. I agree that Nightblood probably scares them.
