High prince of geeks he/him Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I just reread Words of Radiance, for the fourth time, and realized something. Though it does mention soulcasted meat it never mentions soulcasting something living, and if it is possible is the reason we haven't heard about it is because soulcasters are only in the possessions of ardents. With forgery we sea that you can influence living things, such as your self or somebody you know very well, and though it is difficult it is possible. But can you do this with a soulcaster?
Shadowspren he/him Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I haven't finished WoR yet... and I may be mistaken but doesn't Jasnah soulcast people in WoK when they are in the dark alley or is that something different? Cause Soulcasting they change an object to a different one... so I thought that was what Jasnah did with the thugs in WoK
Swimmingly he/him Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Also, spulcasting Shallan's blood at the end of WoK.
Shadowspren he/him Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Also, spulcasting Shallan's blood at the end of WoK. I forgot about that... Coppermind Wiki says "Soulcasting allows the Surgebinder to transform any material into one of the Ten Essences. The Soulcasting of other materials is also possible but not as simple to accomplish." And by 'other materials' I assume it means living things... but then again, doesn't everything have a view of itself in a way... so soulcasting a person or thing is possible, but like we see with Shallan during and after the shipwreck that it is just a matter of convincing the spren to change form
Swimmingly he/him Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Other materials mean anything that isn't exactly one of the Essences. Kind of like each essence is an ideal, and the further from that ideal, the harder it is to Soulcast until you hit the next one. So water, being not one of the essences, is harder than blood, which is, and both are presumably easier than Allomantic brass, which is a very specific mix of two metals, as well as having an identity of its own.
Shardmancer he/him Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I recall Jasnah soulcasting the thugs in Khabaranth*(sorry for spelling) with Shallan.. Isnt that human soulcasting..? Shooting lightning and reducing them to ash?
HoidsRock Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 One of the essences is oil. If that particular oil is flammable, then a soulcasting KR is pretty lethal. Soulcast five enemies into oil and a sixth into fire.
Swimmingly he/him Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I'm thinking, just Soulcast the air and keep a flint and steel handy.
SmurfAquamarineBodies he/him Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Could a Soulcaster, with sufficient Stormlight, Soulcast a rock into a living plant/animal?
18th Shard he/him Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Perhaps, but it would probably be without a Cognitive or Spiritual Aspect. It would be essentially a comatose, soulless person, I believe.
Surgebound Rainspren he/him Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 I believe that you can soulcast living things, but why blood, unless you need to preform a instant transfusion it be almost useless. except if you where a lazy vampire. also if this is explained in WoR please withhold spoilers as I cant get my hands on it yet.
Swimmingly he/him Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 It happened in Way of Kings. Jasnah was Soulcasting the poison out of Shallan's bloodstream. So, yes, it is an instant blood transfusion, which immediately cleanses the blood of all impurities. You could probably cure cancer with frequent Soulcasting. 1
