mtthgn
Hi everyone! Last year, I completed the long journey that is The Wheel of Time, and since then I've been itching to get lost in another epic fantasy series. I just started reading The Way of Kings, and I can already tell that I'm going love where this story takes me. After finishing The Wheel of Time, I loved looking through "The Wheel of Time Companion". It was fun revisiting various terms and descriptions that would bring back all these memories of the series. With that in mind, I'm making a running glossary as I read through The Stormlight Archive, so that I can reference terms without finding potential spoilers online. It's really great how it's making me slow down and really take the time to understand everything going on in each chapter! Maybe after I finish Oathbringer I can just use The Coppermind like everyone else It's nice to meet everyone! I'm glad sites like this exist for fellow book readers. Rebecca she/her
Welcome! We’re glad to have you here. So you’ve only read Wheel of Time and The Stormlight Archive then? Also, who’s your favorite Sanderson character?
mtthgn
As far as fantasy series go, the common ones I've read are The Lord of the Rings, The Wheel of Time, and The Kingkiller Chronicles. I was introduced to Brandon Sanderson through The Wheel of Time, and I enjoyed the work he did bringing that series to its conclusion. I'm starting with The Stormlight Archive, but I'll likely read the other Cosmere books afterwards. They all come highly recommended from friends! I'm only two chapters in to The Way of Kings, but I'll answer my favorite character in the spoiler tag below (though I imagine most everyone is much farther along than me in this series). Spoiler I'd say my favorite character so far is Talanel. He's only been mentioned and not seen at this point, but I'm really interested in what's become of him and how his abandonment by the other Heralds has changed him. The Heralds don't seem bound by time, so I wonder if he's still wandering Roshar somewhere in the present.

It was the first one I read as well, and I had to take notes on it for an English class. That definitely helped me understand it better. Anyway, welcome to the Shard! What are some non fantasy books that you’ve read?
Rushu42 she/her
Welcome to the Shard. I'm currently in a reverse of your situation; I've read nearly every Sanderson book, but I'm currently working my way though the Wheel of Time. Stormlight Archive is my favorite series by Brandon Sanderson, and the books so far have been some of my all time favorites. I hope you enjoy them. Spoiler I also found the figure of Talenel to be fascinating, even though he doesn't make much of an appearance at first. (No spoilers). What are your current feelings about the other Heralds?
mtthgn
@TheGirlWhoLookedUp: As far as readings other than fantasy, I read a lot of non fiction on food and agriculture. Wendell Berry and Dan Barber in particular are two authors I really enjoy. @Rushu42: I hope you enjoy The Wheel of Time as much as I did! Spoiler Here's my initial impressions of the Heralds I've met. Kalak seems like a man of regret. It's clear he regrets being in the Oathpact, but at the same time feels regret leaving Talanel (and humanity?) behind. Jezrien feels hallow and too defeated to care about what hey may once have, like a regal shell of his formal self. Ishar sounds like the kind of person that would constantly correct you with a "Well, technically...", and probably considers themselves the smartest person in the room.

Though, I am pretty sure the already incredible tale was made even more fantastic for me by reading it at the same time I was listening to its full cast audio drama of mindblowing production values. There were plenty of scenes that were enhanced due to that and come to think of it, this audiobook from Graphic Audio will probably fit your style of slow reading to understand everything better and write your glossaries; not to mention help you understand how to pronounce some of the stranger made up words. Have you heard of this audiobook production?

mtthgn
@Mistbreaker I have heard of it! I sounded like something I would enjoy, but I haven't buckled down and purchased it yet. When I was reading the Wheel of Time, I'd do a mix of reading the physical books and audiobooks as well. Sometimes its nice to be able to advance the story while washing dishes and whatnot . I couldn't post a link to it earlier because of how new my account is, but here's my Stormlight Archive Glossary. Since I'm so new to the series, I'm trying to make it friendly to other new readers by being able to select which chapter you're on. Any feedback would be awesome!

Well, here is the link to part 1 if you ever decide to give it a shot: https://www.graphicaudiointernational.net/the-stormlight-archive-1-the-way-of-kings-1-of-5.html Yeah, the producers broke this one down in 5 parts to get content released faster since Stormlight books are so long. The site has new discount promotions every week though so that can reduce the extra costs like the current 25% discount off everything. Their Cosmere productions are worth every penny even without that though. Let me know if you have any format questions. As for your Glossary, I have to say I am impressed with your dedicated thoroughness despite just beginning the book. Very well done so far!
